If people really wanted to play those games why buy super old and not very good sculpts? You can get way better models from third party dealers for both games. This is assuming you want to play the game and not just live inside nostalgia tho.
Agreed, I still have a boatload of Necromunda figs and they are really basic. Nothing I'd look at buying in the current market where we have a ton of quality sculpts choices from third party companies. To each is own I guess.
On another note, I'd really wish they'd re release the (relatively) new plactic tomb king units they discontinued. Especially the Tomb Guards. I'd jump on them like Trump does on unsuspecting pussy

So yeah it does look like what I said. Every month or so we'll get a list of ONE TIME ONLY GET EM WHILE THEY'RE HOT models from a single faction. Keeps GW's inventory low, encourages panic/impulse buying and doesn't destroy the 'value' of 'collections'.

New info from a Gw store's Facebook. Minis will be on the site for 48 hours but the more you order the longer they will stay. Delivery time will be up to 4 weeks as they will literally be making them to order.
It is a smart way to get people coming back to the store to see whats new.

They'd have to redo moulds for finecast, and since they didn't do that even to all of the direct-only minis, I think it's a safe bet these will be metals, which will be cheap for them to cast small lots of when they already have the mould (they might even outsource it to another caster if GW itself no longer has inhouse capacity, shouldnt be impossible to find a metal caster in the UK).

Well could be more than one time. After all just 'cause they have been in list one doesn't mean they can't be put again say year later.
But 48 hours only...Guess I won't be getting much from that list ever.

That seems to be their ideal approach - rotating through stock where stuff is only available for a short run. Keeps the variety up and stock inventory down.
I can't say I like it, but it's better than nothing Hopefully I'll be paying attention when the stuff I want comes up for a re-run.

Only available for 48 hours, well that's a dumb twist to this tale. By the time most people hear about it the models won't be available any more.
Don't get me wrong, I'll be ordering 3 of the Valhallan autocannon teams, maybe some special weapon guys. But I feel like this is GW messing up a good idea again.
Why not keep them around. There is plenty of garage industry guys out there casting metal models to order. Surely GW could just cast up a model when it's ordered.

Because if it's always available there's no need to BUY IT RIGHT NOW! EVEN IF YOU DON'T NEED IT YET! WHY TAKE THE RISK? BUY! BUY! BUY! that has been their sales strategy for years.

To be fair buy now is the sales strategy of pretty much every company.
If they are doing 20 or so models every 48 hours that's over 3000 models a year. I would expect stuff to come back around every now and then. It is also important to note that the popular stuff will hang around.

I suspect they'll have a 48-hour window once every month or 2. Every 48-hours is unrealistic (it'd be a logistical nightmare).
Good point about the higher sales stuff staying available for longer though.

Well, someone is salty Careful with the hypertension!
In topic:
The 48 hours IS a bit of a bummer but I'd guess they'd be periodically repeating the cycle. Even if someone misses this first batch, they'll probably just have to wait maybe a few months?

Most moulds make a set number of models per pour/spin, not just one. It would be a bit hit and miss for them to allow you to order a model which has a mould count of 12, you might have to wait 3 days, you might have to wait 3 months for the minimum order level for a mould run to be met. At least this way they can have orders placed and then fulfilled in a set timescale. It is probably quite problematic from a business point of view to have loads of low volume, low cost orders kicking around unfulfilled on their system for ages. That way lies chaos, and bad customer perception.
It does also mention that if items are ordered in high numbers then they will be available for longer, suggesting that the 48 hours will be something of a litmus test, popular items will be extended, unpopular items will be closed to make way for others. Seems like a sensible business plan.
I guess with a splash in White Dwarf, across Social Media and the viral publicity that these forums cover, they are hoping to cover most of the people who collect this sort of stuff. The casual player/gamer/collector who dips in and out of the scene might miss out, but from a business point of view better to lose a few casual sales and have the whole thing in a narrow window.
As said, it will encourage people to keep an eye on the website, and might encourage a few more purchases, place your order for a few of your favourite OOP minis, and tack on a current box set or two to keep postage down.
I'm excited, Lord Solar Macharius, Sly Marbo, these were top of the line when I was a new collector. I think I might be able to dig out a 3rd/4th era WD ruleset for playing Sly Marbo as a one man army as well

Yeah geeze, even with 24-7 social media a lot of people will find out after the fact. Or won't have the cash on hand. Or will want to think.
I'd put them up for a month with a new one every 2 weeks.

If you think about it the problem is the time between order and delivery. They are not going to make the models one at a time as the orders come in. They will wait until the order period is complete then make them all at once. So if you order day one and the order window is 2 months then it would be 3 months between order and delivery. That is far too long as they will want the money up front.
The solution is to publish a schedule. On October 17th we will do sisters of battle etc.

The beauty of working with metal is that if you only need 1, but the mould produces 12, you spin it once and throw the other 11 back in to become whatever is cast next, with zero waste. Most companies will spin up all 12 and stick them in storage bins so that they aren't casting on demand, but there's no real headache in producing under the mould count.
Unless your casters are flat out, it doesn't make sense to wait until the mould count has been allocated.

I really hope they give us a list what runs they are doing for, like, the next 6 months. You can then plan your purchases ahead. That would be cool. Don't know if GW is ready to share something that far ahead, though.

Much harder to generate hype and get impulse/panic buys that way. It's also a lot of molds they will need to keep ready-to-go for a long period rather then a few days. Ultimately they will sell more with less effort using the method they are, and I think any ill-will generated by that will still be overshadowed by the positive impact of doing it in the first place.
But then again, people may get angrier than if GW hadn't given them anything. The negativity of people these days never ceases to amaze me.

True, but that doesn't account for the cost of the wages of the person doing the spinning. The time taken to get a mould from storage*, dust it, set it in the machine, fiddle the machines settings, pour the metal, allow to cool, pull the models out and replace the mould in storage costs wages. All that effort to sell only 1 model is not in the least bit economical. GW don't have peeps just sitting about waiting for stuff to do.
Doing it the announced way is a realistic and sensible method for a business with a huge back catalogue to manage.
*A note on storage - no chance GW still have all the production moulds for every model they've produced in the last 30 years on hand in their building. The place isn't nearly big enough. The vast majority will be in offsite storage and could take several hours to fetch.
