Thinking about doing something with all the marine models I having stuffed in the cupboard.

It's come down to two choices for me:

Lamenters - I used to play BA. I have a couple of boxes of SH and Deathstorment kicking around. I dig their stoic determination.

Legion of the Damned: Stoic Undead Space Marines. I would need to convert and/or paint regular marines.

On the one hand I think that running these two side by side could be quite fluffy.

On the other, I like the idea of an entire LotD army. But from.what i've read theit codex only has one unit.

My question is: is there a Codex that could be used to field a fluffy Legion of the Damned army?

I believe their may be a Supplement for it somewhere, however, by the book a pure Legion of the Damned army will lose the game at the end of Turn 1 due to not having any models on the table. If you go this route, just make sure to get your opponent's permission that this doesn't end up being the case.

GW sold an ebook version (only) of the legion of the damned supplemental codex. I think that was back in 6th edition, I'm not sure if it is still legal or not.

The army is similar to the deathwatch or grey knights as it's expensive/model. You will most likely be outgunned and outnumbered (and lod can't take grav or plasma... only meltas and flamers).

They look cool as hell though

That's not true at all. They get a Combi-Grav on the Sergeant and Plasma Guns/Cannons.

You can field pure LotD army, but unless you have another force, you will loose turn one.

To many unpainted models to count.

The losing turn one thing was why I wondered about using another codex, frankly. The eBook Codex is still available online so I will snag that.

I would be looking at flamer, meta and plasma weaponry to keep with the flavour.

Then Deep Strike or infiltration to represent them suddenly appearing.

Maybe some tough units: FNP or INV saves maybe?

I was wondering if the Chaos Marine Codex might offer some appropriate units...could make for some interesting conversion projects, too.

Thanks for the replies.

i run my LotD army as salamanders, that way they get the bonus to flamers and meltas.

Play Lamenters on their penitent crusade, who are assisted frequently by the LotD on the path to their redepmtion?

Nope. LotD do not have the Chapter Tactics SR.

Generally, if running 'pure' LotD*, I'll include some single-character detachment (Assassin, Inquisitor...) to have boots on the table start of the game. Also keeps with the fluff: a lone Imperial survivor, facing off against unthinkable odds, when these spectres from the warp appear and begin destroying the foes of the Emperor.

*Unless running Kill Team, where even LotD start on the board.

Cursed Founding fluff implied a connection between the Legion of the Damned and the Fire Hawks, who have Chapter Tactics in the Badab War update. Unfortunately the Fire Hawks' Chapter Tactics (flamers are +1S on the turn you arrive from Deepstrike, characters can purchase hand flamers for 5pts, and Assault/Vanguard squads are Scoring) aren't particularly interesting in 7th.

run them AS, meaning i proxy them.

Run a cad, or a salamader formation but just paint them LoTD, works fine.

Given the Fire Hawks connection I'm going to second this and recommend a Flameblade Strike Force built around drop pods.

I use these Storm of Magic templates for my Word Bearer Drop Pods. If you could track some down they'd nicely represent the Legions unique "Drop Pods"
