So, last night, Ambiguous Alpha Legion Memes asked how you could use the Genestealer Cults list as a Chaos Cult, Which gave me the Idea for Conversions...
I feel like an Alpha Legion Cult army would be the best representation of Lore to Tabletop, as they are known to equip their Cultists with the Best gear (E.G the Mining Suits) (and in some cases, Cybernetic and Biological Enhancements)

1. GSC Magus Turned into a Rogue Psyker
I Could See the Potential in this, as the Broodmind Psychic powers are quite good and Can be seen as powers Rogue Psykers would use to take over a planet (Summon More Dudes, Confuse the Enemy etc)
1.1 The Crouchling could be turned into a Tzeench Chaos Familiar (Like Huron Blackharts) and Wouldnt break the Fluff or Tabletop

2. Acolyte Iconward can be converted to hold a Chaos Banner
Enough Said, Plus his Rules Can reflect Marks of Respective gods (FNP 6+ Gifted by Nurgle, Furious Charge and +1 Attack Relic Banner was Gifted By Khorne)

3. Return to the Shadows and Cult Ambush can Represent the Fact that a Chaos Cult can lie in wait, and Disappear into the Depths

4. The IG vehicles (As well as the Rockgrinders and the Mining Suits) can be used to represent that AL cults are always well equipped and can usually get their hands on this Equipment)

5. Acolytes (the Ones that can take Hand Flamers) can be Replaced with Genetically enhanced Cultists, and Thus a Large Stature (so on the Tabletop they will be the same Size and Would be a suitable excuse for their S4)

6. Acolyte Hybrids (the Gribbly ones) Can be Replaced with Warp Tainted Cultists/Small Chaos Spawn, As stuff like Tendrils and claws etc can be represented by chaos


So yes, i am thinking of Getting a Genestealer Cult, Replacing every Instance of the Word 'Genestealer' (Or Genestealer Esque things, like 3 arms) with a Suitable Chaos Replacement
The Only Problem that i see, is the Lack of Allies, However a Renegades and Heretics IG army Wouldnt hurt as an ally

Go for it. I think it would make perfect sense and look great on the tabletop.


I was actually thinking of doing something similar with my cybernetic chaos cultists, mixing in some larger robots(necrons) to make a full Cult list. Flayed ones were going to be my purestrain stealers. Will have to see how ambitious I am.

Previously Genestealer cults often were also chaos cults.

Indeed a Genestealer cult is even mentioned in the 'current' chaos space marine codex!

I don't think it is too huge a leap to go from 'this genestealer cult is chaos' to 'this chaos cult isn't genestealer' .

As you note it is very easy to hand-wave away any inhuman attributes of hybrids as mutation, or even the more extremely inhuman cultists as being beastmen.

I was considering something similar. I've always liked 'Stealer cults but would want to tie them into my existing CSM force if I ever went for them.

Well, if you have any DV cultists, it's already been done for you. In my eyes, the limb on one of the cultist champions is suspiciously claw like...

We could consider it sort of a continuation of the "count as" thread.

You have plenty of answers and potentially useful chaos bits to "count if". If you do it in a coherent and interesting way, people will be charmed.

Traitor guard is explanatory. You don't have to explain that much the hit-and-run tactics of the cult. A devious cult is a devious cult.

Mutants = mutants, just the source is different.

Just, take in account what you will use as weapons and count as. It must be clear and coherent. Do you have ideas, in detail? Need brainstorm?

Previous Genestealer Cults had Chaos influence, but not Chaos conversions.

Seriously, after a 25 year wait, this new GSC update is exciting and interesting, and unique. Converting it to Chaos is like putting a pickup bed on a Corvette.
