Hi there fellow 30k-ers...30k-ists...30k-ites...

Anyway, I have been contemplating adding a Typhon Heavy Siege tank to my legion somewhere between 2,000 and 3,000 points but, before I invest all that money, I was wondering if anyone uses/has used/has faced one. It looks like it can delete a squad or vehicle a turn and take a pounding in return.

How did you find it? Is it worth the points or is something else better?

Let me know your experience and help me decide as I don't want to end up with a £105 paper weight.

Thanks,
Ed

“Because we couldn’t be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls.
The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does.
That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."

Hardly a paper weight. One of the more 'broken' things in 30k. For it's point cost, it's awesome.

It is a very good vehicle, though you should take advantage of the ability to take two in a LoW slot. 6 hull points with no flare shield is pretty easy to pound to scrap in one shooting phase in an environment as lethal as the heresy.

Thanks for the link, that's very helpful

Looks like I'm getting one but I'll probably only use it in really big games seeing how powerful it is.

Don't forget about the Thunderstrike (?) rules. If it runs over a unit, it can do a ton of damage as well.

Yes, I've seen those. It adds +1 to the result if I recall.

Does its main gun, being a primary weapon and ordnance, roll 3D6 and pick the highest for armour pen? The primary weapon rules seems to say that it does.

Sadly Primary Weapon and Ordnance no longer stack in 7th, I don't believe. At least not in the little rulebook.

As for "how powerful it is..." well, it's not. People overestimate the durability of superheavies. It's less durable than a Spartan.

Primary Weapon is a distinct weapon type this edition, separate from Ordnance. You can't have a weapon that's got both types.

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.

it might be less durable, but it also costs around the same and it's dmg capacity is much higher. When this lands, it usually kills almost anything infantry wise, can threathen tanks quite good, and takes heat from therest of your army. IF you give enemy lots of targets, enemy has to choose between lots of targets so that works quite well too.

Context is very important. If the OP is also fielding a Spartan filled with chainaxes and hate, then some fire is going to be drawn away from the Typhon.

Yes, target saturation works as always.I am just saying it isn't as crazy good as people make it out to be; most heresy armies can kill it in a single shooting phase, at least in my meta.

That depends on points level and armies present. You use an ordinatus army, of course you can oneshot it. My balanced Word Bearer list can't.

It isn't just me. My whole meta is like that. A game without both sides having any Sicaran Venators, Valdor Tank Hunters, or a Vindicator Laser Destroyer squadrons is rare.

We play 2000-3500.

Below 2000 a Typhon cannot be taken, at and above 2000 the same gear you take to kill a Flare Shielded Spartan can nuke a Typhon.

If you gonna bring a typhon - might as well bring 2.

If we fail to anticipate the unforeseen or expect the unexpected in a universe of infinite possibilities, we may find ourselves at the mercy of anyone or anything that cannot be programmed, categorized or easily referenced.
