Ok, so I started playing Sylvaneth (tree people) for Age of Sigmar. And being tree people they can summon a lot of the Wyldwoods, which is the model below:

Now the issue arises in that each "Wyldwood" you summon can actually be 1 to 3 of the above terrain models. So you can very quickly start needing 10 or even more of the models.

This is an issue because:
- Each kit costs $40.
- It is a pain to bring around so many of these guys.
- Model just don't sit nicely on the terrain, even if you make the tree removable.

To remedy this situation I have come up with the following. Please note Steve was the one whom originally came up with the idea, I am just taking it a step further.

What those are is high quality images printed on 100lb card stock, which is then glued to a 2mm hardboard cut out using the orginal wyldwood as a template.

Now the exact process is as follows:
1. Find the images you want to use, they need to be resized to fit exactly on a 8.5x11 page.
2. Either print them yourself or get them print on 100lb card stock (I used Staples)
3. Make sure the images are 100% flat, I had to press mine using heavy books.
4. Use an actual base of the Citadel Wyldwood to trace the template out on the hardboard.
5. Cut the hardboard using a saw (I used a handheld jigsaw)
6. Sand the edges smooth, and lightly sand the top where you will glue the image too.
7. Mix up water and PVA glue using about 1:2 ratio, and lightly brush over the whole surface.
8. Take the uncut photo (pictured side down), and stick the board to it.
9. Press the board with the picture on it between a flat surface and a heavy flat object (I used a book)
10. After the glue has set cut out the board from the card stock.
11. Lightly sand the edges of the card stock side to remove cutting inconsistencies and secure the paper to the board.

Comparing the $40 cost of one wood you could make 10 for:
10x Photos Printed on 100lb Card Stock - $7 (from staples)
1x 2x4 foot 2mm hardboard - $3 (lowes)
Sand Paper - $5
PVA Glue - $3
Cheap Brush - $2
Jigsaw - $50 (you might already have)

So it would be $70 for 10 if you have to buy a saw or $20 for 10 if you have one already.

I am happy with them, let me know what you think.

My buddy has just started playing Treeple too, and we've been pondering on the Wildwood thing. I've seen 3rd party MDF templates with circular cutouts in the same places as the actual model. That's the only problem I have with just being flat templates; true line-of-sight makes the actual trees have value in game terms. Otherwise this is a fantastic idea! Perhaps there is a way to alleviate my concern while using your method!

I wouldn't play against these flat templates any more than I would play against an army of bases with no models on them. The trees are important. They limit the number of Sylvaneth that can be on/in a Wyldwood at one time and also provide line of sight blocking.

Having said that, I do appreciate the work you put in. I'm just think some people won't like playing against them. It's pretty egregious modelling for advantage.

How much line of sight do they actually block though? I've only played two games of Sigmar so far, I've had the woods for years and those three trees don't really seem to block an awful lot.

(I'll add that I play a lot of infinity, so I'm probably looking at it from that perspective)

Camouflage is the colour of fear... I have no need to hide from my foes... I have no fear of death. My colours I wear openly, they proclaim louder than any words, "I am proud to live - I am proud to die" :

Between the trees and a handful of Kurnoth Hunters, you can completely block line of sight. The bigger issue is that playing without the trees allows a Sylvaneth player to put models where they otherwise normally wouldn't fit. It's damned hard to fit 6 Kurnoth Hunters onto a Sylvaneth Wyldwood when it's modeled as expected. Take away the trees and you could easily fit 12. From a Matched Play persepective, it's already pretty crappy that the Sylvaneth can get so many free pieces of terrain that grant clear in game benefit. I don't think it's unreasonable to say that if they're going to use the Wyldwoods, they use them as presented and not modify them for in game benefit.

This is really a conversation for the AoS subforums though.

Or you could spend a couple bucks on some lichen and some Woodland Scenics armatures and have easy 3D sections of wood.

I participated in a thread asking for dimensions at one point.
I made some scans and measurements so if you're trying to do this or make your own and can't get your hands on a physical model there's this.
I suppose I should leave it here for completeness sake.
