Most folks I've seen just use Chaos Knights, when they came 5 to a box. Now there are 10, for double the price, lol.

Alternatively, just get Chaos Bikers and add the Tzeentchy-ish looking helmet from the Chaos Space Marines box. Or use Dark Vengeance Ravenwing Bike sergeants with a different head, since he has all the flowy robes and what not.

The horse riders? As cool as that would be I like to have everything as legal as possible and I'm not I could count cavalry as bikes :(

Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

The horse riders have the same base size as bikers so it would be a perfectly legal conversion/count as. If you like the look of the horsemen then buy them.

But if you really want to go with bikes then perhaps buy a set of bikers and then a thousand sons conversion set.

The bike thing makes this pretty tricky. CSM could really do with a chaos lord/sorcerer on bike kit, similar to the termie lord/sorcerer.

Yup kitbashing between the two systems yields good results. If you don't like the Knight approach Puppet's War makes awesome Daemonic Jetbikes:

Nice! I'll totally do the knights if it's legal, running a cabalstar with them so the horses match the hounds and juggernaut better than bikes

Parts bins for Tzeentchian sorcerer hats and staffs? Possibly wait a bit for the new plastic Thousand Sons we've heard are coming.

I'll second the recommendation for Ravenwing models as a starting point for the bikes (robes and winged bits, Tzeentch's daemons are bird-themed, after all).

Some kind of more alien mount (lizard-y Cold One-based conversion, say) could be fun too. I'd recommend models surfing on Screamers but that'd probably involve confusion with models on Discs.

Not really though, as bikes and cav follow different rules.

Worth doing regardless as I think rule of cool wins this one out.

Well seeing as chaos horses do not have rules in 40k they do not have the cavalry rule. Since they aren't cavalry, or anything for that matter, they take the rules of whatever they are supposed to be in your army.
This would be a similar situation with any custom model, if I had a converted techmarine as a warpsmith I wouldn't use the techmarine's rules just because that was the base model I had based my conversion off of.

In my view, converting an infantry model to an infantry model isn't a similar situation. I was trying to express how the model would have a different unit type to the rules it is representing (cav vs bike).

If someone wasn't familiar with the chaos codex they would see a cav and could assume that they are fighting cav, not bike. As it happens, there are actually rules for cav sorcerors (slaanesh on steed), so even with someone familiar with the codex there is room for confusion.

Reiterating my previous point, rule of cool... Kinda tempted to make my own Slaanesh Sorceror on steed of Slaanesh now... Must resist Slaanesh' temptations!

1. I thought it was common etiquette to inform your opponant of any stand in models or conversions before the battle so that kind of confusion doesn't happen.

And 2. Join us Nareik, we have sick beats and COCAINE!

The Chaos Knights are a massive improvement over bikers in terms of model quality. The waists of the Knights are slightly wider than those of he power armoured marines though, so that might look a little bit odd. You can add a ball of green stuff in the waist joint and it makes them look a little less stumpy. Additionally, the boots are clearly not power armour - but chaos always has a licence for slightly odd looking armour and accessories anyway.

In gameplay terms, you're unlike to run into people refusing to play against them, especially if you make it very clear what they are at the start of the game. They're about twice the height of chaos bikers, so you're actually handicapping yourself on the tabletop. I've just come to accept that, but you could choose to quibble over "actual height" and mark it on for LOS purposes etc. IMO the main WYSIWYG comes from trying to get the TL bolters. Unless you have a lot of spare bolters around to hang from the saddle or something, it may be difficult to represent them - this is most apparent if you're planning on swapping bike weapons for special weapons like Burning Brand.

If you wanna stick to true WYSIWYG then you can always kitbash some bikers with possessed or something to get cool armour and backpacks.

So you want them on bikes I make them from ork bikes + dark angels robed bike rider bits + choas arms.
