Volkite weapons are ancient technological artefacts, dating back to the Age of Strife. Almost forgotten later on they were widely used during the Great Crusade and the Horus Heresy. This leads us to the main question - what color does there glowing effect have? Since this weapon is radiation based it seems that the glowing should be green (FW agrees). However, there are illustrations and artists who make volkite weapons with red glowng. Therefore - what color do you think shoud be used?

Well from what I've seen, blue tends to be used for plasma and green tends to be used for melta. So I would use either purple or red. Though of course it doesn't matter. Do whatever works for your color scheme.

I use red for mine. Contrasts with the blue for plasma.

Most people use red from what I see. Or orange. Since they are supposed to be heat weapons.

All the painted volkite weapons on the Forge World site have no glow. They are metallic casings/coils with heat discolored barrels. Likewise, The Horus Heresy Model Masterclass Volume One shows the volkite (in this case on the Styrix) being painted the same as the other metal parts, with only the barrel end getting anything different (the heat discoloration).

The beams, however, are usually depicted as red, so any vents near the end of the barrel (like on the Styrix or Glaive) would probably have red/orange glow.

...and after a Black Friday purchase, seems GW and FW/BL are at odds regarding Volkites. Art previously depicted shows red volkite. Crusaders of the Machine God (the Cult Mechanicus painting guide) shows the coils of the Tech-Priest Dominus' Volkite Blaster being blue (Caledor Sky -> Baharroth Blue -> White Scar).

The Heavy Metal Paint Team always uses a high contrast paint scheme. Red armor with red coils doesn't add enough contrast, so they painted it blue.

I would paint it like red armor in reverse. Use a nice bright orange as a base, then work your way out to a red on the edges.

As my Ordo Reductor are predominantly a deep red, I went with a blue/white coloration, similar to kirkov radiation.

I use red for plasma, so I'll probably use green or blue for my Volkite, whichever I like best.

Plasma = Red!
