Hey all,

I have a question that I'm hoping someone with the new book can answer. If I buy the new Thousand Sons box, will I be able to use it to make a viable kill team? The Brotherhood of Psykers rule doesn't work, but otherwise I think they should be perfectly legal; however I've not an earthly clue as to how much they cost and what options they have. Ideally I'd like to just take ten of them, one with the cool rotor cannon thing, and be done, but like I say I have no idea.

Any help appreciated!

Considering a 10 man tactical squad of Space Marines, if given some wargear, can easily clock in at 200 points, I imagine you could do the same very easily for Thousand Sons. Maybe you'd only be able to take 8 of them or whatever since the sorceror will cost a few points extra, but you can definitely make a kill team from them.

Why not? Is that not one of the squad upgrades?

I think cause it costs over 200pts for 10, and the cannon can only be taken once for every 10 models.

Necrons - 3000 pts
HH Imperial Militia/Cults - 1000 points Check out my P&M blog! (https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/805464.page)

Thousand Sons are pretty bad at most kill team games. you really only have 3 or 4 possible builds with them:

1) 5x 1ksons, rhino w/havok launcher - 197 points

2) 7x 1ksons - 196 points

3) 5x 1ksons, Gift of mutation, MoN Spawn - 196 points

4) 5x 1ksons, 10x Cultists - 200 points

All of the above include the aspiring sorceror in the 1ksons count.

Them being 150 base and then 23ppm for each additional means you're not able to deal with tanks other than punching rear armour 10 or hoping you roll doombolt or taking meltabombs on the aspiring sorc in build 3) above instead of the gift. Freytag93 is 100% correct that the Soulreaper cannon is only available at 10 models, so you'd have to have 265 points of Sons before you could even buy it.

Speaking of psychers, yes, the aspiring sorceror works fine, though he's one of about 4 models in the entire game that can cast powers in kill team.

AP3 is nice in kill team since you don't have to worry about TEQ's, but then, cover is a thing and bikes are T5 while you get outranged hard by scatbikes and anything heavier than a landspeeder makes you very sad too. Speaking of jetbikes, note that you can have 7 scatterlaser jetbikes for 189 points. Compare that to 7x 1ksons for 196 and weep bitter, bitter tears.

I'd say if you want to use Thousand Sons in Kill-Team find a group that plays KT rules with a higher points total. As is the base squad price is way too high.

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.

I'm personally going to pick up a squad just for fun, since I like the models. I'll probably run one of the suggested lists that Drasius said: 5 1ksons and 10 cultists. Or maybe the equivalent in tzaangors. It won't be competitive for sure, but it will be more for fun and fluffy games.

That is quite sad. On the plus side, we play uncompetitive kill team (since that seems to be rather the point!) and I've managed to win every game so far with my Orks, so I've got nothing to prove. Seven Thousand Sons - or Five and some Ebay Cultists - is probably what I'd go for.

Thanks for the help!
