Looks cool that box.
Looks like it could be one of many as well.
I can ignore the fluff if they keep up with such quality sculpts.
Not happy they used plastic packaging though. its not the 80s, there is no excuse.

That is a darn pretty model! I like how slightly subdued it is, helps me think of it being a blank slate that changes form to do whatever its plans require.

IIRC Abbadon is supposed to have turned down princehood several times. I'd put money on him coming back with an updated sculpt, possibly with slightly oversized terminator armour and some similarly equipped bodyguards to bulk out the set. Bonus points for echoing Celestine and her bodyguards.

The original eye of terror book had a pic of abaddons drinking buddies, IIRC one was a sorcerer but none have seen models. Would be a good basis for a box set.

Wasn't there the old fluff about a quartet of followers, one for each god? Abbadon and that retinue, based on some of that 3rd ed art, would make a nice kit.

Abaddon and the four Chosen would be a good box set and would be preferable to them breaking the fluff and making Abaddon a Daemon prince.

That would be cool.
Who are the three major chaos characters in this btw? I'm trying to guess who'd be in the chaos equivalent of the triumvirate.

And together they form Devastator.
Meanwhile Cawl finds the fifth key and he combines with Celestine, her aides and Greyfax to become Voltron....

If abbadon ascends it would be a serious abandonment of the fluff. The whole point is he's trying to avoid the pitfalls the that snared the primarchs. Being daemons, and therefor subservient to the big 4 in some way as well as having your movement outside of the Eye and into the regular material universe seriously constrained, is a big part of his whole approach.

Do you actually believe that Abbadon, of all those that made deals with the Ruinous Powers, managed to come out on top? That he's in control? That there's no fine print in that particular batch of paperwork?
If anything, THAT would be a major blow to the 40k fluff.

Sounds like you haven't read his back story. As stated, the whole reason Abaddon has so much power is because he was able to somehow keep the Chaos gods as allies but not be beholden to them.

Oozing Plague Marine Terminator
|
The Lord Ravager would lead his groundforces
fearlessly and always be in the vanguard of the
assault. The Lord Deceiver would guide his fleets
with esoteric visions so that they might always
find their prey, no matter where they hid. The
Lord Corruptor would spreadfear and corruption
before the fleet, and also keep the lesser warlords
in line through brutality and terror. The Lord
Purgator would harvest worlds for slaves, and
ensure that wherever the Black Legion setfoot the
taint of the Dark Gods remained. Abaddon also formed from the Black Legion's ranks
a personal bodyguard, known as the Bringers of
Despair, among other dark titles. Selected from the
strongest and most vicious of his Terminator Space
Marines, these fearsome warriors would become a
terrifying sight, their arrival announcing the
presence of the Despoiler himself.
Says the Black Legion supplement.
The Cyclobia Cabal led by Zaraphiston would also be possible, but I guess we had enough Tzeentch Sorcerers recently . There are further Daemon Princes:
Most powerful of these was
Dhar'leth, a Daemon Prince who had once fought at the side
of Konrad Curze, Primarch of the Night Lords. Known as the
Curse of Antecanis and Master of the Shadow War, Dhar'leth
recalled Abaddon's ambition during the Great Crusade and
accepted his leadership without dissent.
Other mighty Daemon Princes sided with the Black Legion:
Doombreed the Skull Lord, draped in a cloak made from a
thousand Space Marine skulls; Glutgora Runnelsore, reborn
in putrescent glory on a writhing bed of Nurglings
And the last quote:
From the ranks of these powerful and vile Traitor Space
Marines the Warmaster chose his generals. Devram Korda,
infamous for distilling the life essence of Hive Sarora into a
potent Warp-draught to grant himself immortality. Ygethmor,
Sorcerer Lord, the cursed seer of the Cyclopia Cabal, who are
rumoured to have found a way to tear secrets from the souls of
imprisoned Eldar. Skyrak Slaughterborn, warlord of the
Bringers of Decay, leader of a horde of insane plague-ridden
warriors who bear weapons dripping in virulent poisons and
52
filth-encrusted armour. Urkanthos, the commander ofthe
Black Fleet, a master of naval conflict and death -dealing in the
void and a peerless captain.
So I'd say if they bring Abaddon with some retinue, they've built up quite some possiblities already . Even Typhus would be possible, but since we had a rumour about the plague fleet already he might get his own light.

There's also the fact that since there ascension pf Be'lakor the Chaos Gods have decided to not ever make an Unidivided Prince ever again... And if one of the Ruinous Powers ever did ascend Abaddon the rest would turn on them. Also Abaddon would be mighty pissed and do his best to not cooperate. And yes, Brimstone Horrors have 40k rules. They (like Blue Horrors) got them in Wrath of Magnus.

If anything, THAT would be a major blow to the 40k fluff.
It's been done before - Be'lakor.
When they released his data slate a few years back, it has some interesting tidbits about his history.
Nutshell version - he was the very first Daemon Prince, and the only one to be raised up by The Four acting in concert. Trouble is, when you're beholden to all Four, there's always One willing to let you go against the majority - no matter what it is you're up to, it'll be to the benefit of at least one. And that meant they couldn't exert any meaningful control, and why all other Daemon Princes are raised by a single God.
Which also neatly explains why Abaddon has not, and likely will never, ascend.
And with what we know now about the preceding 12 Black Crusades, why he's never been Spawned either - he has never failed.

And yet both the Emperor and Horus were able to gain the power of a God from all four chaos deities ( BL's words) which dwarfed that of a daemon Prince, monotheistic or undivided, in the Black Library HH story describing it. Plus...his fantasy analog Archaon got a massive power bump and survived the end of almost his entire universe (and got a dragon mount to boot) while staying Indy. There are already fluff justifications to grant Abby massive power and keep him independent of any single god. Even if there weren't, Gw doesn't place fluff in front of potential sales regardless.

My theory is that they will produce another 3 Gathering Storm books, focusing on Eldar, Chaos and Xenos respectively.
The Fall of Cadia book ends with rules for fielding "Combined Imperium Forces", and on the armoury page, it tell you to refer to the datasheets for some weapon descriptions (which is similar to how AoS warscrolls work). Therefore I think that they will release the other 3 books I listed above, each of which will give new combined/overarching force organisation rules, and formation benefits similar to the allegiance abilities in the AoS Generals Handbook.
After these books are out they can drop the new edition, and they can move to a free datasheet system a la the AoS free warscroll system, with these books negating the need for the force org in the now outdated faction codexes. It could be quite a clever system, as the core rules may also be free.

The blue horrors look kinda dumb. They still can't quite capture that look from the art in the FFG rpg's which made them look interesting. The brimstone ones look good though.
The changeling is so-so model wise. The bottom half of the model looks kind of uninteresting. The lower robes make it look a little plain.
