Building my first CSM Army and was curious as to peoples experience with Havoc Launchers on Rhinos. Worth it, Yay, Nay?

Absolutely worth it 90% of the time. If it's just a cheap-as-chips suicide transport for Berserkers then you'd be better spending the points elsewhere.

But if you want it to camp objectives (or maybe just kill things) you can drop infantry off at one objective, then zip off to another and have a small blast weapon defending it.

3000pts Blood Angels (4th Company) - 2000pts Skitarii (Voss Prime) - 2500pts Imperial Knights (Unnamed House) - 1000pts Imperial Guard (Household Retainers)

2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)

Wargaming's no fun when you have a plan!

Internet mantra says its auto include. I myself am more skeptical. It really depends on your list and what you can buy with those 12 points. A str 5 ap 5 blast is not the worst thing in the game, but it is not going to put a dent in most things that can push a rhino off a objective. Obviously you will get more from them depending on your meta. Sorry I could not offer a clear cut answer for you.

Personally i like a double combi bolter rhino, 4 rerollable shots to go at small units or to try to provoke a Moral check for cheap can help.

You always have the option for a combi-melta/plasma, pricey for a one shot weapon, but it can help.

So yeah the havoc launcher is not a bad choice, just a difeerent one.

It can be an annoying weapon for the enemy.
As said, its an auto include.

For small games (<1000 points) I find they do OK, but as soon as you start to go over 1k then I always see my rhinos popped early, even in a pure mech army with lots of other targets like Vindies, walkers or 'Raiders. Luckily I magnetised mine, so they just pop on and off depending if I've got the points to spare in a "normal" game (1500 - 1850) or if I know I'm playing a small game. I'd advise doing the same, then you can see how long your rhinos last and plan your upgrades accordingly.

Usable/nice to have but not mandatory. Neither an auto-take nor a never-take.

If you're doing something like an Alpha Legion build where you can run 5 Chosen & 2 Plasma Guns as Troops, a Havoc Launcher definitely makes sense for their Rhino.

If you're doing a battle-taxi Rhino (5 vanilla Marines, Meltagun, champ w/ Combi-Melta), then just stick to a Dozer Blade.

Never take Berzerkers. World Eater Marines are better on-foot anyway due to the Butcherhorde and 7e Transport rules.

I play World Eaters so any blasts of any size hitting the enemy has a chance of hitting my assault units, so they're a no go for me. My Rhinos are just sitting in the backfield on objectives all game anyways, 35 points objective secured box that I can just ignore cause most of my enemies don't have any kind of deep strike.

I agree they're probably not worth it if you're hurling the rhino straight at the enemy, but if they're only moving 6" a time and not far out of your deployment zone (plasma CSM/chosen inside) then they seem like a good option

So far I've only used them in a scenario I wrote myself were they were free AND got poison (5+). They didn't kill anything. AP5/small blast isn't worth it for me. If you hit with a plasma cannon at least you can kill something, with AP5 however... Maybe I'll try it against Dark Eldar, but against anything with an armor save I don't see the use. Especially since Rhinos are only there two drive their 12'' in first turn and then die.

I dont use them for the Reason all my rhinos are converted loyalist ones but i would they're cheap and make your rhino either a target making guys neglect your other stuff or allowing it to be a small deterent against trying to kill one off an objective

Like everything in our codex havoc launchers are over-costed. I would pay 6 points max. Prefer 5.
