Hey guys,

When deep striking up until now I always try and just get by without fully understanding when a unit does and doesn't mishap. However now that I've started a Grey Knights army I need to figure it out once and for all.

I understand that you mishap in the following situations:
- 1 or more models are off the table.
- 1 or more models are within one inch of a model from another squad (enemy or friendly).
- 1 or more models are in impassable terrain.

However I'm not entirely sure what happens in the following situations:
- 1 or more models lands on a low wall so you can't physically place them.
- 1 or more models lands in difficult terrain, say like ruins or a forest.
- the unit lands at the edge of a building roof, meaning 1 or more models has to be deployed one or more stories lower than the rest.

Any help would be great.

Mishap

Dangerous terrain test for those models. No mishap.

" the unit lands at the edge of a building roof, meaning 1 or more models has to be deployed one or more stories lower than the rest."

I want to say mishap because you have to deploy in that tight concentric circle formation. But it's foggier than the other two.

None of these really fit my interpretation of the intent of Wobbly Model Syndrome. WMS is supposed to be used to protect model in situations where they might get damaged from falling over due to an uneven surface but otherwise fit. In the case of the unit landing on a roof, remember that when deepstriking into a ruin, the unit always arrives on the bottom level. You can only land on the roof of a closed building or vehicle.

As for the low wall: Is it impassible terrain, or just a half an inch of rubble that your model can't stand up on properly? In the latter case you'd just declare WMS and take a dangerous terrain check for landing in terrain.

Clearly define terrain with the opponent beforehand. If the low wall was considered impassable, it's a mishap. If it was just part of a ruins area terrain, (and thus passable,) the guy is on the wall, needs a dangerous terrain check, and assuming he's ok, use wobbly model syndrome to spot him there.

Also, you don't mishap for landing within 1" of your own models, assuming they are at least battle brothers.

- Can't Place a model? --> Mishap
- Land in terrain without move through cover? --> Take a dangerous terrain check
- Lands on a building where you can't place a model? --> Mishap
- Lands in a ruin where you can't place all models on the ground floor and in base contact? --> Mishap
- Lands in a ruin where you can place all models on the ground floor in base contact without move through cover? --> Take a dangerous terrain check

Moral of the story is that if you play an Imperium faction, locator beacons are available on the cheap from a 10th company formation from scout bikers and teleport homers are available to regular scouts (mounted in LSS obviously). If you're coming in turn 2, then locator beacons are also available on drop pods. There's very little excuse for not being able to guide your terminators in on target these days if you play Imperium. Every other faction however...
