Thinking about things. Logically speaking, Chewbacca is probably the one single character that will likely never die, as long as new Star Wars films are being made.

He's completely, 100% always recastable and has already been established as being, say, 100 years old, in the films themselves. That's without going into EU stuff.

Chewie could really very much be the one consistent thread throughout the films.

Since the films are all about events and back-story that impact the hero, R2-D2, I would think he would be in all of them, if anyone.

OK.....

A friend has just shared what purports to be the first teaser trailer for The Last Jedi.

Elements of it struck me as a bit odd, and possibly fanmade.

But it could just be a rough cut type thing. As ever, it'll be on Youtube somewhere - but until I've seen it shared on something like DenOfGeek, take lots of salt before watching, yeah?

Really looks to be largely fan made stuff.

There's a special place in Hell for people that make fake previews. Reserved for child molesters, and people who talk in the theater.

Grot, can you remove that link so the huge POS that made that doesn't get more clicks? It's obviously fake, plus NSFW. It has a nude scene from The Witch.

Yeah, the fan-made Obi-wan trailer pissed me off. I didn't know about that Indy film Ewan Mcgregor made, so I thought it was real at first, until they started using too many clips from Ep3.

Shouldn't we be getting the REAL trailer for Ep8 soon? Wasn't the Ep7 trailer released during the 2015 Super Bowl?

Yet all you can find are hideously and obviously stage managed reaction videos.

One of my son's dreams is to be a You Tuber. I really don't want to crush his dreams, but I cannot be supportive of that.
Not only is it expensive and difficult to be successful, but even if you are successful, it's just a lame popularity contest judged by the ignorant masses.

Seriously though, I am jonesing for that Ep8 trailer

I just watched Rogue One again and after it was over I began to realize that it had one of the most suspenseful final acts of any recent movie I've watched. Even on a second viewing my heart was racing at the end.

I wonder, will Episode 8 try to capture some of the Rogue One magic or will it wind up vapid entertainment like TFA was?

yeah .. :

http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2017-02-17/the-fate-of-star-wars-jar-jar-binks-has-been-revealed--and-its-really-depressing

Spoiler:

or the most part, Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks. Ever since Ahmed Best’s accident-prone Gungan sprung onto the scene in maligned prequel The Phantom Menace viewers have raged over his irritating mannerisms, cutesy demeanor and lowbrow sense of humour, with the character eventually proving so unpopular that he was mostly written out of prequel sequels Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.
However, some new details have emerged to make us all feel slightly guilty about our sustained Jar Jar hate, with new Star Wars tie-in novel Star Wars Aftermath: Empire’s End revealing exactly what happened to him following the film series – and it’s not pretty.
Apparently, following his last onscreen appearance in Revenge of the Sith Jar Jar was shunned and ostracised by his own people, with his role in expanding the war powers of Chancellor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmuid) correctly seen as paving the way for the Empire (see video below)
Presumably thrown out of politics (he was, slightly improbably, a senator last time we saw him) Jar Jar is now reduced to performing as a clown for children on his home planet, while adults continue to shun him.

According to Mashable the novel encounters Jar Jar in a short interlude on Naboo, when a refugee boy named Mapo finds him clowning around in a fountain twice a day to the delight of younger citizens.
"Meesa Jar Jar," the Gungan clown identifies himself, before attempting to cheer up the displaced Mapo by making faces and explaining his own estrangement from others.
"Jar Jar makin some uh-oh mistakens," he explains to the boy. "Desa hisen Naboo tink I help the uh-oh Empire." Jar Jar then stares poignantly into the middle distance, which is not a sentence I expected to be writing today.
Of course, this appearance is mostly a bit of a meta joke referencing the fan hate for Jar Jar, giving the character what many would see as his just desserts while also riffing on the real-life reactions to him (as with real Star Wars audiences, the children love him while adults hate and shun him).
His appearance is probably also a response to the recent resurgence of interest in Jar Jar, with various theories and fan-made trailers emerging over the last couple of years that imagine darker versions of the character for humourous effect.

But frankly, Jar Jar’s situation is a bit depressing, and might even make fans feel slightly bad for their gleeful hatred over the years. Weesa all make mistakes, after all, and it’s sort of sad to see a fundamentally good-natured character put through hell for doing what he incorrectly thought would help everyone.
(Unless of course, the “Jar Jar is a Sith Lord” theory is true, and this whole thing is just Darth Binks playing a very long game to cast the galaxy into darkness. Classic Dark Jar Jar move.)
Anyway, one way or another we at least know that he survived until after episode VI, so there’s a chance we could see Jar Jar again in other novels (or even onscreen) in happier times.
Ooh mooey mooey, Jar Jar – we can only hope things work out for you.
Star Wars Aftermath: Empire’s End will be released on Tuesday 21st February

Yes that final scene made the movie.

I see Rogue One and TFA as versions of a rock band.

The series is the Rock band: startup (Star Wars); heyday (ESB); and denouement (ROTJ).

Rogue One is like the band getting back together for a reunion tour. Its more rough and misses some beats, but when it rocks its like the glory days.

TFA is a mediocre cover band that doesn't really get it.

I think we're doomed to see more TFAs. Frankly I'm not intending on seeing the next one unless the reviews are good. Literally none of the characters and villains are interesting to me.

I'm interested to see what Disney do with the feedback.

As well covered, Rogue One was finally very different from the rest of the saga, whilst not be entirely alien to it.

I suspect the trilogy will remain more-or-less as is - that's your big crowd pleaser.

But depending on the demographic of Rogue One, which I have no doubt Disney will have pored over in exacting detail, we may see some grimmer tidings, at the very least in the stand alone, quite possibly in the main trilogy.

http://www.cbr.com/star-wars-the-last-jedi-plural/?utm_source=CBR-FB-P&utm_medium=Social-Distribution&utm_campaign=CBR-FB-P&view=lista

he official French and Spanish “Star Wars” Twitter accounts this morning revealed the localized titles for “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” confirming what some English-speaking fans had suspected since Episode VIII received its name: “Jedi,” in this case, is plural.

First, @StarWarsFR revealed the French title will be “Star Wars: Les Derniers Jedi” — “les derniers” being plural forms, meaning the noun, Jedi, also refers to more than one adherent to the ancient religion.

n hour later, @StarWarsSpain announced the title en Español, “Los Últimos Jedi,” again using the plural forms.

In the “Star Wars” universe, Jedi can be singular or plural, something CBR’s Tom Bondurant addressed in his recent speculation about the meaning of the film’s title: “[I]n ‘A New Hope’ Obi-Wan Kenobi tells Luke Skywalker that ‘the Force is what gives a Jedi his power’; while Grand Moff Tarkin reminds Darth Vader that ‘[t]he Jedi are all extinct. Their fire has gone out of the universe.’ Additionally, in ‘Return of the Jedi’ Yoda cautions Luke that “[w]hen gone am I, the last of the Jedi you will be.’” He theorized that “The Last Jedi” could refer either to Luke or Rey, or possibly both.

But plural doesn’t necessarily mean “two.” Other candidates may include Finn, Poe Dameron or even Kylo Ren, or “the Last” could refer to a whole separate Order fans have not yet seen. Questions will be answered when “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” opens in theaters Dec. 15.

Directed by Rian Johnson, the film features returning cast members Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie and Andy Serkis. They’re joined by such franchise newcomers as Benicio del Toro, Laura Dern and Kelly Marie Tran.

Being mostly an Internet Lurker these days (two-year olds take up amazing amounts of time, and I love every second of it!) I don't get why R1 is disliked by apparently so many. I really liked it. I ewas ambivalent to TFA, but at least it was better than the non-existent prequels (much like Indiana Jones only has 3 movies, and there's only one Matrix movie plus the anime).

Just the opposite! All the stuff Disney cribbed from ANH (and ESB) weighed down TFA. TFA was at its best when it was doing its own thing, such as Finn and Poe escaping from the Star Destroyer.

I disagree with both.

Rogue One worked well. We knew just enough about our heroes, as they were ultimately disposable. We saw each of them had their motivations - but also that they weren't vicious thugs (thanks to the contrast with Saw's chums). We also saw The Empire at its absolute zenith, just before the Rebel Alliance had scored decisive victories over them - and it was worse than we've ever seen it before in terms of brutality and abuse of power.

TFA? It was a rampant crowd pleaser. A proud clarion call if you will, announcing that Disney had no intention of repeating mistakes made in the prequels ( comedy moments no problem, but no need for a straight 'comedy' character). It called back to the warm and fuzzies of the original trilogy, without making a mockery of them, or failing to be its own thing.

The Last Jedi should prove interesting, as depending on what happens, it may enhance or detract from TFA. Who knows yet?

Desperate for a trailer though! Even a teaser would be cool (though can you imagine if we have to wait until release day to see any footage? That'd actually be pretty awesome in the modern day of information overload)

The characters of R1 are barely thumbnail sketches. The main protagonist is the product of Frankenstein-esque script surgery. Is she a hard-bitten cynic or a bleeding heart idealist. Well, the former was obviously true before the reshoots; after Disney stepped in, we have her lecturing the leadership of the Alliance on hope FFS. The rest of the cast are flimsy nobodies that exist for mercenary reasons having nothing to do with the story or plot of the film (e.g., sell tickets to Chinese moviegoers). Far from appearing powerful, the Empire is portrayed as more incompetent than ever before. The only explanation for the Empire being in power remains - as per the horrible Prequel Trilogy - that everyone else was just dumber than Palpatine. Darth Vader shows up because, as you would say, Disney needed the film to be "a rampant crowd pleaser."

I believe TLJ could be a good movie, as opposed to another so-so movie - if Disney has a bit more risk appetite when it comes to letting their characters have their own adventures rather than retreading ESB.

Why can't she be both? She's a closet idealist who has been beaten down by a gakky life and just needed a reason to start fighting again.
