Howdy, Folks.

So here's the question with more detail. With the advent of the new Cypher model coming (Yay!) and the Forgeworld preview of the new Moritat models, I've had Gunslingers on the mind. So, my question is, barring named characters like Cypher, what are some other good Gunslingers around? Which are actually worth fielding? Since only Cypher gets his weapon profiles in close combat, is there an HQ that could also be effective if he gets in combat?

The first one that fits some of these in my opinion is some kind of Corsair Prince; automatically gets a brace of decent pistols and can be equipped to get some melee going.

Let's hear some other ideas!

None. Pistols are so stupidly overpriced that they're never a good choice.

The Corsair Prince is the only option I can think of here.

Haemonculus with the Parasites kiss and a stinger pistol is hardly a good unit, but is quite fun.

This is pretty much exactly what I was thinking. That, and the armies that have some decent pistols (Like the Skitarii/AdMech one with Burst fire) can't be taken in pairs on anyone, right?

The Haemonculus idea is kind of nifty. Sadly, I think the Corsair Prince does about the same thing with a pair of Splinter Pistols without having to buy it. At least it's a cheap option. And healing a wound wound be a funny novelty.

Vanguard vets can run with a grav+melta pistol combo.

Oh, I wasn't familiar with that. What kind of point cost would that be?

I thought the Parasites Kiss would replace the Splinter Pistol, being a relic?

Oh, sorry, misinformation - not grav + melta (though it's probably possible with ba or something).

They have options:
One hand: grav/plazma/bolt
Another hand: grav/plazma

So, you could go with grav + plaz or double grav or grav+bolt to save points.

15 pts per pistol + the price of a vet + jumppack = 52 ppm with 2 pistols. Insane but hey.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
If you're looking at effective than probably sister seraphims. They're 15 ppm, have 2 bolt pistols, a jumppack, 3+, re-rollable 6++ and can get shred once per game. They can also exchange bolt pistols for a pair of handflamers.

Double grav sounds nice, but that point cost hurts ... what's the range on Grav pistols? 12 like other pistols or less cuz Grav?

I had completely forgot about Seraphim. Lots with hand flamers and shred seem quite effective, even against high armor just to force saves with templates and shred.

Most Eldar Corsairs have not 2, not 3, but 4 pistols. Standard Corsair wargear is Brace of Pistols, which is 2 Shuriken and 2 Splinter.

Not necessarily a specific HQ, but I'd say that qualifies them as the most prolific gunslingers.

I think the thing I like most about them, Brace being a good start, is the fact that they can still have a decent melee weapon (since pistols put you close anyways), jet packs (or bikes) to scoot if you have to, and then furthering that with Reckless Abandon for further moving/charging shenanigans.

Bring Sly Marbo back, with just his stub gun, knife and t-shirt he has killed all in his way. He will come back as part of the 40k end times and be Primarch sized and headbutt chaos so viciously that the Chaos gods apologize for the last 10k years and all will be right again after chest bumps with Rowboat.

Enforcer is BS4 and only pays a the price of a melta gun for a plasma pistol and can take two. Also has two wounds and can take carapace armor to mitigate gets hot.

I don't have my codex on hand, but I think you can replace a melee weapon with the stinger pistol and then replace the splinter pistol with the parasites kiss.

But I never use Haemi's, or either of the pistols so I apologize

Nottingham (yay!)

I'm quite fond of my Warpsmith with Plasma Pistol. BS5 so overheats are his only misses, 2+ so they don't usually backfire, additional Melta from his Mechatendrils, and in the Cult of Destruction he makes three Obliterators into de facto gunslingers. Jump out a Land Raider, dual wield Plasma Cannons & Assault Cannons, and when they get charged they get 3D3 TL Flamer or HF to boot.

I'm not sure if the Harlequin Crescendo relic replaces either weapon. I think the wording is just "May Take an Engima of the Black Library"

In theory, that would mean you could take a Harlequin Troupe Master with a Neuro Distruptor and Crescendo for 15 points who'd get 1 Fleshbane AP2 shot and 4 (IIRC) regular shuriken shots at BS5.

Pretty solid.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

I have to agree with folks on the Sisters of Battle choice here. Some great looking models and cheap enough, points wise anyway, that you can field a lot of them.

Wait, what? Why do they have so many pistols?
