FIrstly, i'm not intending to be rude at all here so please dont be triggered.
I am asking why dakka doesn't have really exciting threads where everyone of a certain army or something come together and post their work, eg. the 'tread head thread' on warseer and that sort of thing. The big communal shared threads are what i'm talking about. (we do have the conversion thread which i particularly like.)
Is it because of the amount of people that go on dakka? is warseer more popular?
or did we have them at some point and they've just disappeared due to lack of interest?
Jus curious.

People seem to do their own painting and modeling threads here.
There is a group "Terrain Competition thread" in the painting and modeling section here: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/709936.page
There is also a monthly painting challenge. February's is here: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/716241.page
Finally, there is a 278 page thread titled 'What are you doing now" where people post random updates of stuff they wrok on. Here: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/550385.page

We've got one just for Infinity stuff here. Personally I prefer to read blogs but the free for all sorts of threads can be good for finding new blogs to follow.

It's probably because, ironically enough, dakka is too big. With so many posts the good interesting ones can soon be lost on page 2 and further before enough individuals have posted to keep it going. Forums with smaller number so posters (but enough to keep them alive) have less of this problem as it stays near the top long enough for another poster to add something before it gets lost.
Alternatively maybe dakka just isn't an interesting place to be (And for the avoidance of doubt yes this is a tongue in cheek joke!)

"Because while the truncheon may be used in lieu of conversation, words will always retain their power. Words offer the means to meaning, and for those who will listen, the enunciation of truth. And the truth is, there is something terribly wrong with this country, isn't there? Cruelty and injustice, intolerance and oppression. And where once you had the freedom to object, to think and speak as you saw fit, you now have censors and systems of surveillance coercing your conformity and soliciting your submission. How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror. " - V

Best advice!
Start your own thread, STG. If it's an IG/ AM one I'll post.

We have a showcase thread for AoS that is mind blowing.
https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/666813.page
Check out the most recent work, especially the fire elves by Melcavuk
Not only is this thread packed full of motivation and inspiration it has also been going since October 2015 and at its inception really helped bring the Dakkadakka AoS community something positive to focus on when the reception for the game back then was somewhat hostile.

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-) |

A forum is what the member's make it.
This - so much this.
If members want something on a forum you''ve got to grab the bull by the horns and tackle it yourself and make it. Talking about wanting something only makes people talk about wanting it; you've got to start it to make people want it.
Granted sometimes it won't work and sometimes you've got to be a little crafty - such as making a new thread at the peek times of activity rather than at times of less activity.
It also helps if you're starting a thread on a topic to have some content to contribute toward starting the topic off. Eg if you want a painting thread it helps to load the start of the thread with some painting. A lack of such can mean that others don't really take up the flag and keep the thread going.

Dakka is pretty damn big. If you cruise the P&M threads or P&M blogs I'm sure you'll find several to tickle your pickle. The Tyranid Pwnography, now long since locked, is still a marvelous trip down memory lane if you like crazy conversions and humorous nonsense.

I honestly thought this was going to be about the korean spam threads that have been showing up around midnight US time this past week
There are some really great threads of the variety you're looking for in the P&M Blog section, as other have noted, I think!

Dakka used to have 'Show your...' threads like that back in the day.
They kinda became redundant with the advent of the Gallery, and to some degree the Showcase.
Just type in what you want to see and browse away.
If you're looking for specific details on a conversion, paint scheme, or just really like the work or whatever then just leave a comment on the picture or PM the owner. If you still don't hear anything then start a thread with links to their picture.
