Yeah, your paint scheme of that Screamer Killer makes the model look less goofy and more terrifying.

Cheers fellas, I'm happy to finally see my old projects go somewhere

Regarding that, I did also repaint the rest of my BFG Nids last week, but they're still missing some scrollwork so they'll have to wait a bit before being photographed. Meanwhile...

The Black Templars' Benith flotilla's flagship, battle barge Unforgiving Blade, as seen during the Selen II uprising.

Had to rebuild the engines due to a missing part and a whole comedy of errors, but eventually after about seven hours of painting she is ready to sail. Icons were freehanded.

IIRC, the base is the old 60mm flying base, so a good 3-4" of white metal. They're chunky things.

Impressive work, and kinda crazy it only took 7 hours! The icons came out very clean!

(edit for better phrasing)

Yeah, 60 mm base for battleships. The barge hull is probably closer to 12 cm or thereabouts in length with the navy battleships like Retribution and Apocalypse being way bulkier than this guy.

It's a chunky little boat. I've started using sturdy metal nails for stems on heavier ships, the older plastic pegs are just asking to get snapped in half during gameplay.

Epic game day at the club, four tables of Epic: Armageddon. Eldar, Death Guard, hellforged monstrosities, screaming mutants, Imperial Fists and a Guard's armoured battalion (my force) bashed it out through the day.

Also took a WIP family photo of Selen II's tankers, even if many of them still languish without their proper highlights...

Fixing up recent purchases. One Hellebore was missing its bottom, so I crafted a new one from a 40k support platform. The Auroras were maybe the worst casts I've had the pleasure of working with. Molds have slipped, wings needed to be reshaped in hot water, sails had holes, rear flutes needed to be resculpted due to bad resin ports and so on.

Thank you gobert and tzurk, always a pleasure when there's an active game day with more people

Meanwhile on the people front, I'm getting married to my lovely lady this weekend.

Pros of miniature artistry: if you can't find a suitable wedding cake topping, just make your own.

Also speedpainted the Fellowship and some smaller War of the Ring nazguls in a day to chase them around the banquet hall tables to amuse the younger guests.

Thanks you all, fellas. We had a lovely time, although the planned treasure hunt event with the Fellowship models went slightly awry when a couple of industrious kids decided that the best way to secure their chocolate prize was to collect all models that they found and bring them to their own seats... sneaky buggers

Anyway, back to the grind! Academic grind, that is. Writing articles and crunching statistics has a nasty habit of filling ones calendar, but I got something small done again in time for the monthly BFG painting competition. With the theme being conversions, I finished a Nid Hive Ship "Elokuun kruunu" (Crown of August). Originally built and sloppily painted 15 years ago, given a glow-up this summer as I started restoration on the fleet. Just didn't have time to paint the name scrolls until now, rest of the fleet should follow suit soon. Good ol' glue bottle.

Narrator voice: "The rest of the fleet did not, in fact, follow quickly."

Bugger, life as a responsible adult brings work in the way of hobbying. Two weeks to go for the BFG monthly paintings, one of these days!

Meanwhile, I set up a little dockside invasion demo of EA for a local scale modeling event while the rest of the club brought historics like BA and TY. Not a proper game but more of an exhibition table where the visitors could come chat and try out a few moves. Good discussions were had about how the scale of the games would be reflected on the other tables, like how the small BA platoon-level rifleman skirmish would occupy just a small spot on the Epic table where companies surge forwards as artillery and aircraft duel over the titans as the whole countryside burns.

Sounds like you need to start two and get demoing it, then...

Way to make the hobby come alive! The terrain is top notch, and seeing it in use on a grand scale is definitely a recruiting tool! Heck, I've got a Mount Plastic of Shame high enough to have to be buried with me to get everything done- and I want to run out and get into epic scale!

Rock on!

Cheers fellas. Wet navy hardware is something you don't need too often, but of course if one were to make it, it would be a shame not to use it more...

Played a couple of E:A GT scenarios today, 5k and 3k. Ground down some Nids with my Selen II tankers. Highlights included: killing a Hive Tyrant with a random Valkyrie rocket in the eye, driving a 21 unit strong synapse swarm to the ground with a Baneblade company charge and beating a subsequently charging Hierophant back with the same company for good measure.

Can't believe I haven't commented on these slammin' posts recently. I could have sworn I had!

Your Epic posts are so dang good- all the armies are gorgeous and the terrain is such a nice compliment. Is it all painted by you, Mr Pie? I laughed at the Telly Tubby Gargants.

BFG Eldar/ Nids/ Battle Barge are as usual utterly glorious- I love the pimped up basing too. It must have been pretty satisfyig for you to evamp the paint jobs on old models?

That Screamer Killer- I fragging love it. It's an iconic sculpt and you've done it fantastic justice.

Hope you are feeling better.

Hey mate, comments like that make anyone feel better

No, it's not all mine. I play at a nice club where we care for the visuals and egg each other on to play with fully painted armies, the usual stuff. Most of the Epic-specific terrain you see in my pics is painted by one of our long-time Epic players who has tens of thousand (points and money) worth of models in a dozen or so armies, who has been a one-man factory churning out multiple tables' worth of terrain for us in order to facilitate more players getting in on the fun. He's so prolific with it that I've been slacking with my own terrain production, in fact! I've been the face and enforcer of the same project, though, pressganging new victims / recruits into the scale

As for the 'Nids, yeah! I know I should be painting more models instead of worrying about old ones that are snapshots of their own time, but sometimes I just want to see them made better and worthy of tabletop time again. The little things like sharper edges and glowing orifices help a lot, and it's good to experiment with them a bit in order to find at least somewhat effective methods for the inevitable assembly line work I've got in front of me when I start tackling the 40k pile of them... one of these days... but first I might have put in a teeny weeny print order for a friend to make maybe a hundred vehicles of varied kinds for the Guard. It's almost like they want me to play some infantry, too, which requires a lot of Chimeras...
