Let's say you defeat an opponant; it was a close and bloody battle and you enjoyed it thoroughly, do you take/build a trophy to remember the game by?
I have had an idea recently: whenever I defeat an opponant that put up a tremendous fight I might start requesting to take a picture of the toughest thing I had to take down (whether that be their warlord, LoW, etc.). Then I would attempt to buy the head of that model online and proceed to paint it in the same colours as my opponant did.
I'm hoping that this would mean, in the future, I could look at my heads displayed on a trophy wrack and remember what a brilliant game that was.
What do you think to this idea? Do you have your own trophies of war? Do you have other ways of remembering great games?

I've never done anything as a specific trophy for a battle, but when my friends and I first got into the game, I did the Trophy Wrack on my Chaos Lord where I had the Tau Helmet in my friend's Sept Colors, the Warrior head was my friend's Hive Fleet, DA Helmet cause one played DA.

I usually reserve these things for particularly amazing actions done by models. the list includes:
My Solar Auxilia Generic mook who did a wound to perturabo and lived to tell the tale (part of the group of men who didn't get swept ) He is now a Srgt. and has an IW shoulderpad on his base and a Marine Knife gifted to him by his Legiones Astartes allies.
My Tactical marine who managed to gun down and kill Corax with Overwatch (2 shots, 2 hits, 2 wounds, 2 failed saves ). He was given his scythes (transfers) and "promoted" to Veteran tactical marine (moving models about )
etc. etc.

Yes. I usually demand models at the end of a big victory. My trophy rack is a 1990s cardboard box filled with grunts of all varieties.

At my old store I started a trend called "head hunters" when you lost a game you had to give the winner a head(from your bits box) to claim victory. I loved the idea. Haven't got anyone else interested in it locally after I moved. I thought it was a fun idea. This wasn't done every game. It was more reserved for the matches that you had to fight for to win, not just a wash of a match.

I think it's a great idea. The hard part is how to display them. Do you incorporate them into models or do you build a terrain or objective markers with them.
It all comes down to the display.

Truth be told, I had 3 skulls by the end of the year, my friend had 50+......40 of them were my skulls. he started with a skull or two at the base of his models, but eventually started putting them on their own bases stacked up Khorne style that followed his warlord around. That was back when we all worked mids and we played about 5-8 games a week for a solid year. Best year of my life. I had plenty of skulls to give, I traded a lot of armies finding what I liked so I had a ton of bits.

For my WWII German tanks I paint white rings around the gun barrel every time it gets a kill until the tank itself is destroyed. Then I have to meet that number of kills to be able to add more white rings.

Once.
Won a game at a regional tournament by Tank Shocking my opponent's Tau with Ironwolves Rhinos. Opponent complained to the judges about not being able to tell my Ironwolves vehicles from others (Pretty easy actually, my non-Ironwolves vehicles were all Drop Pods, none of my drop pods were Ironwolves vehicles) Judges laughed at him and told him to pull his head in.
In an absolute dick move I purchased some Tau drones and yellow spraypaint, painted smiley faces on the drones and bluetacked one to each side of my Rhinos then last minuted them into the mods competition.
I've been trying to make Mick Folly's Mankind wrestling mask for them before I attach them permanently.

I... honestly couldn't think of anything else to say.
I've never been in any position where I might take a trophy.
When I gamed with a club of friends, I never won a game. Ever.
When I game against my mom, I own all the models since she uses mine.

All of my trophies are more or less just funny stuff tht happened in game, and I had my Iphone handy, so I took photos for posterity. Excerpts from this gag reel include:
-the poker chip used as an objective marker that was coin tossed onto the table, which promptly stood on it's edge for about 10 minutes.
-One of my BA dreadnoughts standing in an area where he's multimelted + falcon pawnched a full unit of Killa Kanz into wreckage, creating a roadblock on one side of the map meanwhile----
-his twin brother got himself wrecked on the opposite side of the table, effectively sealing my opponent inside his deployment zone.
-photo of me placing all 10 members of a scout squad on the top floor of a ruin, effectively denying a unit of necron wraiths from being able to make base-to-base contact with the squad for an entire game.
-photo of a die that not only rolled a , but finished it's rolling on top of one of the red plastic range rulers from the starter sets.
-photos where the Cullexus assassin rolls a grand total of 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, to hit in close combat against a thunderwolf cavalryman.
-photo where a Battle Sister Canoness rolled 2, 2, 2, 1, 1 to hit with an eviscerater against my razorback. She most certainly got blatted in the following shooting phase.
-photo of when the tip of my tape measure broke and it retracted inside the casing. One of the lads had a screwdriver handy and opened her up, revealing a modern art sculpture that mirrors the futility of man's struggle for control against an overpowering universe.
and the academy award goes to: photo of the FW superheavy IG tank that ended it's Thunderblitz move on top of a tower, having forced the two grey hunters out of the area under threat of S6 hits.
40K atm is too much like the recent Batman movies for my liking; too one-dimensionally dark and emo, with not enough dark humor to balance things out, therefore my trophies are in some way related to the sheer comedic opportunities that still lurk in the depths of this game.

Used to do this with my 1st Lustrian Imperial Guard army. It was an IG regiment converted from Lizardmen. I got a bunch of the old LM plaques and painted them gold. In tournaments I would place one of these in the center of the table as an 'ante' and tell my opponent that if he won, it was his. Part of the 'fluff' for my army was that they were on a search to recover the stolen treasure of Sotek. If I won, I took the plaque and added it to my step pyramid that was part of my display board. Multiple opponents gave me models from their armies to also put on the pyramid under the plaque, laying down as sacrifices. For the games I lost, I would model up a figure from the army I lost to and put it there standing up instead of the plaque to show my defeat. At least one opponent took the plaque he won and added it to one of his vehicles, a Chaos Land Raider IIRC.

My Waaagh Banner currently has a Tau Crisis Suit head and a Space Wolf helmet painted in the colors of my Tau army and my friend's (now mine) Wolves army. I was going to add chains with more trophies from armies my Orks defeated but its something I haven't worked on yet. Need to at the very least get a Dark Eldar, Eldar, Necron, and Chaos Daemon/Marine head for the banner.

I pick up character models from the different opponents that I have faced. I like to say that they were hit by a stasis field during the battle and brought back by the Techmarines for further study.
I do like to slip the occasional trophy onto some of my models. Pedro Kantor has anot Orks skull at his feet. Commander Dante and Captain Karlaen each have a Genestealer head on their bases. One thing I want to add to the bases of both of my Stormtalons and my Stormraven is the wreckage of Ork Killa Kans. I should ask my friends for some leftover bits from their Xenos armies to use as basing material. An Ork arm on the base of different Crimson Fists characters and Genestealer parts on my Blood Angels would be fun. My Deathwatch can have Eldar or Necron bits.

One thing I may start doing is marking a vehicle "Kill count" for my Punisher Pask once I get him painted up. I feel it would match his fluff of being a vehicle hunter.

Yeah some armies are easier to do than others a skull throne for a Khornate Lord, a battery of stasis chambers for Trazyn's Necrons, captured slaves for Dark Eldar etc.
I'd say objective markers is a neat way of incorporating them into your army
