Irrespective of your views on whether it should have been made, and whether you like Guilliman as a background character or not, do you like his new model?

Personally, though I haven't read the designer's notes in this month's White Dwarf yet, so he may have some sound reasoning, I think the model is naff. I actually think the rest of the Gathering Storm models fall within the "good" to "excellent" range, but when I look at Guilliman, I can't help but see an over sized, derpy daemon prince of Tzeench staring back at me.

Someone else here on Dakka (apologies for not recalling who) put it perfectly when they referenced Jes Goodwin's explanation of design vocabularies in the October White Dwarf and how this appears not to have featured at all in the new Guilliman sculpt.

For me, Guilliman, (probably by far the most important of the triumvirate of triumvirates, and arguably the most important sculpt ever) is a tremendous swing followed by a heartbreaking miss by Seb Perbet.

Nah much like most of GW's recent releases too much bling and micro detail that detracts from the model.

I voted for 'other'.

First impressions from leaked White Dwarf pages and GW previews are not great. However, I do see some potential for a less derpy looking model with a bit of modelling and a better paint job.
The NMM style in the previews looks ugly as sin on this model. In addition, I reckon taking a bit of time to scrape off some of more ridiculously ornate bits of his armour trim, and possibly using the helmeted head, would significantly improve the model. The model as presented by GW is a miss, but I'm willing to reserve a certain amount of judgement until the community get their hands on the kit.

I like it. Definitely going to get it even though I don't play Ultramarines. If nothing else, the people that don't like the new model will be getting rules in Rise of the Primarch so they can use their 30K Roboute in 40K.

Too early for me.

At the moment, it looks a bit off. But, I've not seen the actual piece yet - and I'm aware GW's photography can sometimes do their models disservice.

Overdecorated, oddly-proportioned, and oddly-posed. Also his face seems to have shrunk in the wash, it's at least two sizes too small for his head. Extra annoying because we've also got the Forge World Character Series Guilliman, who was designed by someone with some sense of composition, more restraint, and quite a lot more taste.

Personally I could have forgiven most of the weirdness if they hadn't covered him in Chaos-style squiggly growths coming out of the armor trim (especially immediately after the release of the Thousand Sons with that sort of armour). Without it he's just a poorly-designed Primarch, with it he looks bizarre and wrong standing next to an Imperial army.

I’m torn.

He’s definitely in a 40k suit of armor fit for someone of his station. Baroque, bit over the top, ostentatious. I don’t think it really suits him. I much prefer the FW sculpt.

There have been a number of minis I didn’t like in the leaks/pics, but liked a lot more when I saw them in person. So I’m trying to reserve judgement until I have him in hand.

I’m pretty natural ATM. I don’t love him, but I don’t dislike him either. Parts of the sculpt I’m not fond of, others I like.

I’m going to vote “other” here.

The thing that kills it for me is he really doesn't echo the 30k/40k aesthetic as much as he should, imho. He looks more at home in a Stormcast Eternal army.

From the armor decoration, to the face, to the posing, I just dislike it.

I'm going with miss. Aside from the over-ornate armor (honestly, what's wrong with finely detailed but functional armor?), to quote red letter media "What's wrong with your face?"

No, seriously, what's wrong with it, because there is something super off in how he looks.

Thankfully, it looks like he comes with a helmet option.

I think a pretty one-sided poll would be Guilliman: Helmet on/off?

I don’t think I’ve heard anyone say they liked his bare-headed option.

I didn't like it at first, but seeing other angles and the helmet option changed my mind.

I hate helmetless characters more than Eldar players.

Well, I don't like any helmetless model as a matter of course, but this one seems particularly bad. I think it's FW's fault, they're the ones who put out the artwork of him that basically boiled down to "he's Daniel Craig, but ten feet tall and in space".

The official model is way too busy...without adding any benefit for it. However, I'd say it's in line with the majority of GW's current model-designs (which are likewise comically busy in many cases).

Thanks. It looks better like that but it is still a miss.

I think it looks fine. It isn't the best of the gathering storm sculpts, but I would love to see a different paintjob and some conversion work on him.

As GW show it i think it's a miss.

With a helmet, some work to take off a few details and decent paintjob i think it could work well.

Not that you should have to do that to a centerpiece model but still, the framework is there.

Not an Ultramarines player, but if I was I'd pick up the Forgeworld Guilliman & just convert his sword to that of the Emperors.

The new model isn't terrible per say, its just that compared to like Magnus for example you can tell not nearly as much attention to detail or effort was put towards Guilliman.

Yeah really not a fan of Roboute Tzaaniman.

Can someone stick a Lord of Change head on him and replace his left arm with a big mutated tentacle and see how it looks?

I will reconsider my opinion when people start painting him in a more gritty, muted paint scheme (which is what I've done with the Yncarne). However, I'm not holding out much hope with this one...

Interesting POV. There have been 3 trumverates, how’d I sort them.

Of this box, from a sculpt POV, I think I’d actually put RG last.

Cypher > GK > Guilliman.

(Not that I actually care/want the GK, and he lacks the baggage of being my Primarch, but he’s a nice mini)

The first box, I’d rate
Celestine > Greyfax > Caul

Eldar:
Fighty guy > Fancy Chick > God shard.

Celestine (with bodyguards)
Cypher
Stabby Elf
GK
Guiliman
Ballroom Elf (w/kitty)
Greyfax
Swirly thing
Bag-o-mech bits.

Obviously a very subjective list. But IMHO RG is in the middle of the pack as far as the recent releases. YMMV.

In general I like it to an extent. To me the only actual issue is that his proportions feel very off compared to other SM. He is proportioned as a person SHOULD be(with perhaps a slightly small looking head, but that's expected if you're wearing thick armor...), which is a big departure from the rest of the SM range.

I'll withhold judgement until the minis out. there have been a number of minis where the leaked image just didn't look as good as the actual product.

Such a miss. They even had a perfectly done sculpt from the guys down the hall. Kind of weird they borked this one so bad.

Makes me hope they never bring back Vulkan if he'll look like that in plastic.
