Do you have Parkinson's? Holding a template steady for 3 seconds isn't that hard. And you're looking down a foot, is your eyesight that bad that you can't see something a foot away? What models are so large with bases so small that it's impossible to see the base at all?

Isn't that hard but then again you aren't going to be able to look at the template from dead above often(there's this 4' wide table in the way. I'm taller than average finn but I can't reach middle of table).

Most of the times I play it strict but frankly sometimes it just ain't worth the effort in tricky spots to measure within tenth of an inch.

It's right there in your own words. You attempt to place the drop pod within the 1" bubble (or at least act like you're going to do so), which is cheating. Then, if they reach for their tape measure to confirm that you are in fact placing the drop pod illegally you say "prepare to argue every borderline result". No matter how you try to justify your little game what you are doing is attempting to cheat as a test for your opponent.

Deliberately placing a drop pod within 1" of a unit is cheating (unless you want a deliberate mishap for some weird reason). And I don't see why you consider following the rules and measuring the 1" distance to be "harsh". I've seen plenty of situations come down to a distance of 0.5" or less, so why should I accept "that looks about right" as an acceptable way of moving models?

(And, unless the new codex has changed something, if you put your drop pod within 1" before rolling the scatter dice it's a mishap, the scatter reduction ability can only reduce scatter distance to save you from a mishap. If even reducing it to zero won't save the pod then you get a mishap.)

Actually at no point did I say put it within that bubble. I said slide it towards - the anal get their measuring tools out before you get there. The anal like yourself assume everyone is out to cheat.

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go.

I play an all deep strike army, and not one with Drop Pod bumper padding, either. It's me that's the stickler for measuring. Been deep striking Grey Knights since 3rd, there's an art to the current process and it's way safer now than its been since 3rd (use to scatter a large blast marker, then place the models under it).

My beard grows a beard when someone cheats and acts like it's unacceptable to call them out on it. I was clean shaven earlier today but a beard flared out on me when I read this thread. It's creeping down my neck.

In a casual game, I'm not going to measure the model distances by the micrometer. As long as your models didn't land on TOP of mine, I don't care. It's a casual game, who gives a crap?

In a competitive game, like at a tournament, I'm breaking out a measurement tool and a laser pointer for scatter purposes. If you're inside by the width of an eyelash, you're taking the Mishap, amigo.

If you guys want to try something really casual, don't use any rules at all!

Yes, put whatever army on the table you want, field it across from your opponent and mouth out artillery shell and laser gun noises while making finger guns at each other and determine which models are removed from the table with a good ole fashioned fist fight when your opponent doesn't agree that you've already shot everything he has and you are the victor.

I have no idea what your malfunction is, but it seems to be something involving measuring?

Well, more like measuring, strawmen, and ad hominem.

Because I'm not seeing the problem that if I'm trying to drop something in as hairline tight to the edge as possible, my opponent might eyeball it and go, 'that is tight. You sure you got an inch?'

What bothers me is when an opponent places their models however they deem the most beneficial to them.

Rather than doing concentric rings around the first and continuing outward they place the first model, place one ring around it and then proceed to pile everyone else where they feel is most beneficial to either a) not mishap or b) get in range of something.

So, you consider people who want to make sure their opponent isn't cheating are 'anal'? Isn't that a little harsh?

Ummm, isn't that what you're supposed to do?

Does GW have some exact instructions or rules for making concentric rings?

You're not really helping your case here. The best-case interpretation of your actions is that you're going to put your drop pod close to the bubble without measuring it accurately, and your opponent has every right to get out their own measuring tools if you aren't going to. The worst case, of course, is that you're going to put the pod within the bubble, and your opponent certainly has the right to measure it and tell you to move the model to a legal position. And it's ridiculous that you're getting outraged and insulting about the fact that your opponent wants to play by the rules instead of carelessly throwing models around wherever.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

For his next trick he's gonna tell us that he doesn't even roll dice. He just assumes that his shots hit 2/3rds of the time. Conveniently the exact weapons hitting what he wants them to. Of course.

And if his opponent asks him to roll dice they're being anal.

He's going to win the game anyway. The math proves it. If the opponent asks him to put his models on the board, he's being anal.

They do, in the rulebook. Deepstrike section.

Personal ones...

Opponent who looks at my units, states its 'obvious' what one will do and starts moving it...

that and a player whos catchphrase seems to be "well if thats the way you want to play it" when presented with an actual rule.

e.g. by this point in the game you can have moved 24" maximum, we started no closer than 24", and indeed I started further back, not you're not in base contact "well if thats the way you want to play it"...

ffs.

When accuracy doesn't matter I care a lot less, when someone is obviously extracting the urine I do.

Worst one had to be a tournament game, opponent an ETC players (this is FoW) who saw my army and graciously offered me a 5-2 defeat as the game would be wasting his time...

(I won 6-1, he was not amused)

During the game I'm trying to fire a mortar, these cannot fire over a building if within 4", the building is behind me, apparently "I'm too close to fire", the judge agreed with me..

Was that sort of game really.

Rules are the rules. I am not going to measure every little my opponent makes and if it looks like about an inch I'm good. But rules are the rules. Please do your best to follow them.

In a tournament I consider it a waste of time but I'll leave it alone, outside a tournament I consider people who feel the need to argue every fraction of a mm to be a waste of time - arguing is not only not playing it's making the game drag on, hell, in casual play I can't even be bothered arguing the 5mm overhang on the wooden ruler you had when you were a ten year old.
Twelve inches so you're in Rapid Fire range? Sure, why not.

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go.
