Yeah, the fluff bit for the Ion Rifle makes mention of being able to overcharge it, but a second firing mode is missing for some reason.

there is enough difference in the rules that both weapons have a different role on the battlefield
Rail Rifle works better on long range and as sniper while the Ion Rifle is better at close ranges

what I have seen on the battlefield, this is enough difference for making it a hard choice for our Tau player

if it was a mistake, it would be a good one as the rules make non of them better by default

Still a bit strange that the only high impact weapon the Tau have access to is on a special operative, is there any such restriction on any of the other kill teams?
Having overcharge on the Ion rifle could help with that, unless there is some reason to restrict the Tau from such weapons.

Concerned Tau players could always drop a line to GW and ask if there's a second firing mode missing from the entry.

BTW, how many people bought this for the terrain vs. for the rules, I wonder?
Box #1 for rules, miniatures and terrain.
Box #2 for miniatures and terrain.
Box #3 for the terrain.

Glued and screwed down 1'x1' hardboard tile #2 last night, got 2 more laid out and have not cracked box #3 open yet.
I figure you can make 2 tiles (3 edge connecting and a through) from each box and between 2 boxes you can upgrade one tile to a two level walkway.
You could thin it out a bit and get 3 tiles but then a rather spindly second floor looks less likely.
The hard limitation is the floor plates: 2 diagonals, 2 squares, 2 long pieces and 4 half moons.

A smarter person would probably find terrain to mix this kit with to get a little more out of it.
I was tempted to use armored imperial container as a covered bridge and then realized I would need to magnet or pin the lid in order to move miniatures through it.
It would be funny to activate the storm bolters on it though!
Easily enough ladders to comfortably get two on per tile and more for second level terrain.

Figuring out how to create a gantry crane to use that giant skull grabber included: novelty piece or "eyesore" I am undecided.

The terrain is really well thought out and solid.
I am trying to make more use of the piping and flange connections, there is good opportunity for running pipes for more cover using 1/2" styrene tube.
Plus I should give some indication of promethium transport.

Means of fire extinguishing equipment are strangely absent.
I feel I should make a demented cult that act as a militia fire brigade who will attack "bringers of flame" without mercy.
Modify genestealer cult gang models back to "normal" people?
Shotguns and web guns preferred for piping safety.

Glad GW released one big PDF for all the factions, will make it easier to print and get spiral bound OR buy the $50 complete softcover (it still is right?) book.

Well the rulebook does mention a hive cult called the Daubers - rival factions of the cult endlessly paint the Promethium pipes in their particular colour.
That sounds crazy and demented.

There's also mention of automated security system within the Promethium Sprawl that activate to defend their territory.

I was thinking you could use the forgeworld Castellax/ Vorax as count as Tyranid Warriors, but servitors or Thallax would make a nice Necron Kill Team.
Or even convert up some Arco-Flagellants as count as harlequins.

Decided Against yes against buying the Furnace or the lame Alcomite stacks, reason is i'am experienced at making terrain and well i could definitely make a better and more glowy furnace if i so desired, the stacks are just boring i could make them out of plumbing parts for half the price, not that i would.

Glad they decided to work up the management skills required to spin out the rulebook in such a short timespan shows they listen to there own which is nice, people want what people want, only thing that does it for me is the magnavent got me one of them on order along with the book, would have bought neither if there was no book, now i just need to work in/on some obscure units and fan rules,i would so like to use my Kromlech ork operator and RC Goliath Mine, and work in Biker specialists also.

There are quite a few people who show how to get some industrial plumbing out there for miniature use.
Looking for some good material as deck/gantry plating would be of interest (hardboard with cross-stitch grid glued on top maybe).
Glad they decided to work up the management skills required to spin out the rulebook in such a short timespan shows they listen to there own which is nice, people want what people want,
Due to so many places running out of the box kit, it would be the only sane thing to do.

The magnavent is about 2/3rds of the SBA box set terrain.
The book is great, really is a serious Necromunda flashback in most respects.

REALLY good terrain bits there too, has barriers and barrels, nice stuff!
and RC Goliath Mine, and work in Biker specialists also.
bikers in the underhive could get a bit exciting...

My Local Store said the count and will be coming in the next couple weeks in addition to some sort of Imperial hauler/truck.

Plus different combinations of the new terrain (seen in the early posters and in the Shadow War box advertisements).

Rest of the terrain combo's going up this weekend. I'm guessing the Galvanic Servohaulers set includes the crane from the WD bat rep.

The bases are interesting as there's no mention of the sizes included. Hopefully they will have a similar range as the existing Sector imperialis sets and this is the first of several boxes.

If there doing bases, a set of board tiles to match would not be unwelcome. Especially if they were more 3d like the FW tiles instead of the flat GW city tiles.

Yeah depending on the sizes I might grab some to go with whatever is in the 8th ed starter box.

I like the sound of this cargo truck. I was thinking about getting a Goliath to use as a terrain piece, but a proper cargo truck? Neat!

That's frustrating for anyone who already went ahead and built their kill teams.

Slightly, yes, but I had a feeling they were going to make those and still bought a box of sector imperialis bases. Besides, it's just a reason to build a new kill team for me. I've only got one fully built and about 5 in the planning or construction stages.

The new terrain sounds interesting. I'm thinking about building a loading dock type thing with the skyshield pad and crane and some of the cargo crates.

Oh man, can't wait for pics of the new terrain.

I have one set of SWA box terrain and one each of the separate releases, and was planning on more, so I'll hold off a moment to see if I should buy the new stuff instead. Mainly was going to order more Galvanic Magnavents to get the walkways/supports so I'm hoping the new sets also come with walkways/supports.

It's not new. It's just the same terrain in slightly different configurations of sprues, or extra sprues. The SWA box contained a big pic of them.

Whatever has more walkways and supports, that's what I need.

Which naturally seems to be the shortest packed/ most expensive kits that have them.

Maybe I should get some of those Wargames Exclusive cars to use as cover and break up ground level fire lanes...?

One of the three listed on the price sheet, was not pictured on the box insert. The "Galvanic Servo-haulers." It's the cheapest of these 3 newest at £20.

Currently the Galvanic Magnavent has walkways and supports, and the cheapest (in terms of sprues - 4 for $75, versus 2 for $50 in the others)

I got some Promethium pipes for scatter terrain - probably get another two sets too. Currently using lots of AT-43 concrete walls and conex containers as well (though we houserule them as 2" tall - they are like 2.25" in reality - so that models can climb onto them).

Just had a great rescue mission where one of my IG dudes leapt from a walkway, over a gap, to the top of a conex stack, and dropped down, making several Initiative rolls, to rescue his bud who was imprisoned inside.

Ah, crap, you're right! Nice.

Looks like Promethium Forge is angled walkways, support, and vent sprue - three for $60; while the Ferratonic Incenerator is walkways, support, hex platform, and furnace/vat sprue - four for $75.

I'll be nabbing one each of them for more walkway action and supports, as I plan on doing double-level walkways for my 3x3.

In all seriousness, some kind of smallish civilian vehicle would be amazing. But the crane is cool as well. Considering the name of the kit is plural, maybe it will include parts for two cranes.
