Aces has finally arrived over here. Only thing still left in pre-order hell is the Mercenaries splatbook, as I finally found a place that sells the Davion one for a reasonable price. Also got a digital copy of the Tech Manual, just in case and with that I think I've finally caught up with all the stuff I wanted.
Aaaaaaaaand crap, Amazon has a restock of a lot of Inner Sphere stuff, as a minor discount.. might as well get another battle lance and heavy battle lance, for the cool models.

Force Manual Mercenaries isn't out yet. News from PAX Unplugged says it's in transit and is expected to release sometime in January.

Decided to play something i never usually do-LRM fire support lance.
.kintaro (played by a wolverine since i don't own the kintaro yet)
.catapult
.crusader
.archer
I was facing a davion force-
.archer
.warhammer
.marauder
.penetrator
It started out really well, i mangled the marauder on turn 2 especially with artemis IV on all my missile boats, i hurt the penetrator and the warhammer pretty goodd as well but not enough to take them out of the fight.
But then as things happen in battle tech the davion player started making some nasty crit roll successes. the one that probably lost me the match was loosing the pristine crusader to a single PPC hit to the face and a double 6 on the crit roll. aside from the kintaro he was my best backup brawler since he had er mediums and streak 6s to back up his LRMs

I played a Star of Clan mechs against my son's IS forces backed by a whole mess of tanks and choppers - Classic
It was a few weeks ago but trying to remember
I took:
Blood Asp
Timber Wolf
Nova
Caludron-Born
Something tiny and speedy for scouting
Can't remember armaments at all, lol
Somehow managed to pull out a victory.
I just found Mordel.net which has a mech builder, so I made the King Crab Kaiju from Mechwarrior 5 which has 4 PPCs, UAC5 and LRM15 - can't wait to take it into battle!
This last couple of days I've painted something I have wanted for a while: a company full of "bug" mechs, on account of Stingers and Wasps supposedly being stupidly plentiful in the IS, but me never having more than a couple.
I decided to make an Amphigean LAG company, with multiple models of Stingers and Wasps led by Phoenix Hawkses, for extra macrossity:

Slowly gearing up to continue our mercenary campaign next year and the 'mech market has finally yielded something good: a Wolverine WVR-6R! Not the Nightstar or Archer I had been pining for, but a massive step up from my current ride, a Locust. All that's left now is to more or less rebuild it, as market purchases are offered in three states GREEN (pristine), ORANGE (full armour refit needed) and RED (full armour and internals refits needed) and sadly, my new ride was a red status purchase, cheaper to buy, but damn, you can see that the previous owner died in this one alright.
But wahey, from a bug to a brawler, let's see if RNG doesn't feth me over with the lucky headshots.

I've been struck by the urge to play a Mechwarrior game again. I loved Mechwarrior 2 back in the day, it was actually my first "wargame" influenced computer game and one of my very first PC games. Absolutely obsessed with Mechs for years afterwards. It was years later when I was already heavily into 40K that I found out there was a tabletop game, and I've always just sort of had my eye vaguely on it. Started playing Mechwarrior 5 (was surprised that it runs quite well on my relatively cheap laptop and on linux too) and it's all flooding back to me in pure nostalgia.
So I've decided to go pick up a starter set when the shops open. I'll get whichever starter they have and paint up some 'Mechs.
I'm just a bit disappointed that they don't have much in the way of infantry available for the game - I'd quite like the idea of a "complete" game with 'Mechs, tanks and infantry.
I was thinking of getting some Mantic Epic Warpath GCPS or Enforcers and using them. Do you guys reckon they'd be badly out of scale with the mechs? I don't have much experience with 6mm scale.
I'm probably going to try Alpha Strike, Classic and also Mech Attack anyway. I suspect my regular opponent will be more likely to take to Mech Attack as he's not big on very complex rules, but I figure there's probably a group playing Classic or Alpha Strike around and I'd like to be able to join.

Da Boss, Override, by Death From Above Wargaming is another good option to play Battletech. It's a game they hacked together from Alpha Strike and the Mechwarrior: Destiny RPG, which sits in a really good middle ground between Classic and Alpha Strike. Mostly free, as long as you have at least a set of Alpha Strike quick-start rules (the Commanders Edition works even better).
I think that Mantic infantry may end up a bit large, as I think they are 10mm scale? That's going to be larger than a 6mm Elemental. I, too have been on the quest for good 6mm infantry. 3D printed ones always seem way too fragile.

Yeah, I thought that might be the case. Shame they didn't go with 6mm.
I'm not interested in 3D prints at all, but I think there are some metals around that might work. Vanguard has some good ones but I'm never sure about shipping to the EU. I saw some from Iron Wind but they seemed really expensive if I understood the website properly - like 1.40 for one dude?
https://www.fantasywelt.de/Heavy-Infantry-Firing_1 Anyone bought from them? Because 1.40 for a base of dudes sounds fine to me but 1.40 for one 6mm dude is crazy town.
Edit: I might just buy a box of Solar Auxilia and call it a day. A single infantry box has enough for what I'm looking for and isn't crazily priced. And I think those guys are 7mm which is close enough I reckon. Nice miniatures too.

From what I understand, IronWind Metals handles the US market, while Ral Partha Europe handles the metals across the pond. Being a Yank, I only hear stories.
But otherwise, yeah, they should have options. Here's a few perspective shots of a sample of mine with a CGL plastic 'Mech, and sometimes a Protomech.
L->R Front: Foot Infantry, Tracked APC with Foot Infantry for Tracked Mechanized Infantry, Track Bike for Motorized Infantry, Wheeled APC with Foot Infantry for Wheeled Mechanized Infantry, Hover APC with Foot Infantry for Hover Mechanized Infantry.
L->R Rear: Elemental, Roc Protomech, CGL Locust, Badger tracked Omnivehicle.
L->R Front: Foot Infantry, Track Bike Infantry.
L->R Middle, IS Battle Armor: Sloth Quad, Grenadier Assault, Inner Sphere Standard, Marauder Battle Armor, Gray Death Standard, Gray Death Scout.
Rear: CGL Locust
L->R Front, Clan Battle Armor: Elemental, Gnome, Clan Medium "Rabid", Black Wolf, Salamdander, Afreet, Buraq.
L->R Rear: Roc Protomech, CGL Fire Moth, Centaur Protomech
I put my Infantry on 3/4" (or 20mm) discs for 2 reasons: First, so I can put them in the same hex as another unit (like the 'Mech they're going to do a Leg Attack on); Second, to indicate they are Infantry with no Facing.

Da Boss wrote: And especially thanks for the scale comparison pictures!
No problem. I started taking them when I got Protomechs because the original screenshots didn't really present how small they were. After all, Protomechs are all of a size. When you put them next to a known 'Mech, it provides a perspective that I wished I had when I started getting them.
It helps all the more with the Infantry because, aside from the Marauder BA, they really are tiny in comparison.
I probably should make a comparison pick with the CGL Elementals while I still have them, I suppose.

On a whim, after seeing a YouTube video on the subject, I decided to get the Marauder anthology, featuring everybody's favourite Dark One and I loved it. For a setting mostly grounded in semi-hard sci-fi, this was some good horror, which I'd love to see more of, but also not, as it keeps the mystery going?
Also got a whole Gothic salvage display, which yielded me..
I uh, had hoped for more lights and mediums, as we'll be using these for future random opfor generation.. But OH. MY. DAYS. I'm quite pleased with the two Riflemen and King Crabs.

Went down to the local shop and picked up an Inner Sphere Battle Lance and a box of tanks today. I'm going back and forth on whether I want to order the Alpha Strike box or just pick up another lance and the rulebook for classic. I like that the Alpha Strike box has scenery in it, but it's gotten quite expensive (90 euros) even though it's still a good bargain, I'm not sure I'm going to "need" all the mechs in it compared to just buying another box and having 4 a side with some tanks and infantry. I'm not that interested in Alpha Strike as a game (it looks to me like Mech Attack will do streamlined battletech better if I want that) and the classic battletech box doesn't look like a fantastic deal to me. Ah well, no rush. I'll work on what I have.
I was gonna paint my mechs in individual heraldry rather than doing a lance all the same colour, so that me and my opponent can easily mix and match from my mechs for games. Plus it will let me try out lots of schemes which will be fun. I assume that's not breaking any unwritten code of behaviour in the battletech community?
Also, I was gonna try out basing texture paste stuff for the bases, as my usual sand approach might look out of scale. Haven't done anything but 28mm for the last 30 years so it's new territory for me!
Edit: Put in an order for a bunch of infantry and some battle armour dudes on Sci Fi trader. Decided I'll pick up the Game of Armoured Combat box if I can get it for 65 euro or under, which I think will be easy enough. I can scratch build cardboard skyscrapers easily and I'm not super interested in Clan stuff or Alpha Strike right now so I think it's the right call.

Black Knights are good. Unfortunately for our campaign, the one we did get ended up getting legged or Hipped in almost every engagement for a long time.
One time, the pilot started the scenario with 2 Wounds, got hit by a Bomb in the Head, and the pilot went night-night till the end of the scenario.
The next scenario started at the end of the previous with units coming in behind us. The Black Knight was a sniper back-stopping to make sure no one got away, but then got buzzed up the leg by a Hunchback 4P, fell down, and spend the rest of the scenario asleep.
The 'Mech has been called "Revenant" after all the crap its been put through.

That's the kind of awesome gak I hope will also happen in our campaign.
So far my brother gave our other player's character the call sign Backstabber or B.S. due to how he'd get around the enemy with his Blackjack and do some serious damage. Now my brother isn't knowledgeable about the setting at all, but it was amusing to us that he dubbed the Taurian pilot of all people B.S., which if you think about many of the IRL call signs out there, works well on several levels. I worry what mine will be when the time comes though, as I did make it known that call signs have to be earned and will awarded by other players.
