Hi all, just thought I'd get the general consensus from the internet on the following.

I wanted some decent long ranged anti-tank in my marine army and found the options lacking in the standard codex but a little googling on the subject let me to the free rules for the Vindicator Tank destroyer from forge world.
I know some will call me cheap but I had a couple of vindicators gathering dust in my cabinet so I deciding using one of those would be preferable to spending £50 on resin, I based the following together from my bits box to make the four barrelled cannon with the advantage that it is removable so I can still use it as a normal vindicator should the need arise.
The question is, would you be happy playing against it? It's it close enough to the actual model for you to accept it as a proxy, I know I could use anything as a proxy if both players agree but I like my stuff to be pretty representative on the battlefield.

Let me know your thoughts.

I think it looks great and you should be really proud of it, I'd be happy to play against it but without a Siege Shield it just doesn't look like a Vindicator.
The Bulldozer shovel really makes a Vindicator a Vindicator in my opinion, I'm not even that fond of the forgeworld one.

At first I was having nightmares about Timmies proxied "2 AC barrels and 2 Lascannon barrels glued to a square base, glued to the front of a Rhino", but then I clicked on the link and, OP, that is an amazing model. Not only would I play against it, I would have a hard time shooting it because such an amazing conversion needs to be on the table.

I'm not sure the 30k Vindicators can even have Siege Shields?

Cracking conversion. I'd play against that happily. If you can do that, a chunky picket fence shield like the FW one shouldn't be too much of a problem either. Jealous lol!

I'd be interested to know what bits you used.

Thanks for the positive comments guys, when I started the project I googled to see what others had done and definite wanted to avoid the "glue four random guns to the front of my tank" issue.

For the person who asked it was pretty easy to make if you have a bursting bitz box.
You'll need:
- A cupola from a space marine tank (make sure you smooth out the inside) this fits exactly over the barrel of the vindicator, so well that it seems made to measure, goes on and off and doesn't move when fitted :-)
- The outer housing from the rocket pod of a valkari gunship, this fits nice and flush upto the cupola.
- Two Twin Linked Heavy Phoshor Blasters from the Onager Dunecrawler kit. You glue these together to make an even four barrelled gun then slightly shave down the corners at the back and it slides right into the rocket pod housing.
- Then just add random stuff to make it look a little more mechanicus-y :-)

You'd have nightmares playing against me then. I think Vindicators look a little on the silly side when they have that shield.

Anyway, that is a terrific conversion and I'd have zero issues playing against it.

Yeah, I'm not OCD enough to get nightmares.
More likely I'd irritate you by stumble calling them Pred-ahh-vindicators

The only question I ask is what is the normal chassis meant to be. Is it rhino size or land raider size. (I only say this from tournament perspective. I can´t see many local gamers caring)

The real thing is a different pattern of vindicator, so Rhino sized.

Ah seen the reason why I was a little confused. The tank destroyer is a landraider variant while the laser destroyer is a vindicator variant.

As previously said, that is not a proxy, that is a conversion, and a pretty good one at that. Good job on making it on you can slide on and off a regular Vindicator too.

(Jokes aside looks good, I say go for it. I can tell you if I were doing it I'd have used lascannon barrels (with the diagonal cutoff) for more clarity and I might have had it in the cowling the demolisher cannon goes into with magnets for swapping to avoid the super-extended look, but those are issues of personal preference. It's neat, it's painted, it fits in with the aesthetic, it's clever, you can just measure to where the demolisher cannon would be when firing to avoid accusations of modeling for advantage, and I can tell exactly what it's supposed to be. Ticks all the 'good conversion' boxes, I say good job.)

Conversion not a Proxy sir.

Mine is really similar except I'm using a second ed predator/vindicator for my death guard. Thought my ancient nasty DG needed a similarly ancient and nasty looking tank.

I got no clue, never played 30k, you might have me on that.

Legion Vindicators can be upgraded with Dozer Blades or a Mine Plough (same cost as a Siege Shield; lets you re-roll dangerous terrain and when you move through enemy infantry as part of a tank shock they take D3+1 S2 AP- hits)
