So after the whole Shadow War debacle me and my friend decided to split Blood Bowl instead. I'm probably taking the humans while he takes the orcs. We're also getting Death Zone season one. What should I get afterwards?

I did the same not too long ago and have been doing alot of playing and reading lists.

Main thing with humans is your going to want an ogre at all costs.
Since I got one I've not looked back.
The lack of strength really hampers the human team.

But I'd grab and ogre and get some games under your belt.
Don't sink too much into it as I've found most people rarely stay with their 1st team.
So use them to practice and see what you think, you can then either stick with them or find a team to suit your style.

The human team as is isn't too bad.
I'd drop a catcher and a thrower and grab an ogre.

The orc team really does need more black orcs though.
The first thing my friend did was add 2 more and that alone made them alot better.

I'll tell him that when we go to buy it tomorrow.

The orc player will need 2 more black orcs and 2 more blitzers which can easily be converted from other minis. The troll is optional the whole stupid thing always backfires.

The orc star player is a cool counts-as blitzer imo.

You guys will have fun and figure out where to take it for sure. I love this game so far, just started when new box released. Went to adepticon and played Stupor Bowl and got my a$$ handed to me for 2 days and laughed my butt off every minute of it.

Human probably want two more Blitzers, either buying a full second team box, or hitting up eBay for more Linemen and converting two of them by adding the larger head crests. Also the Ogre as mentioned.

Orcs probably want two more Blitzers and two more Black Orcs, again a second box or eBay or conversions.

Definitely try to get both additional card packs. The cards are fun. The red cards in the starter box are the more OP ones, so having the extra packs for the more fun ones is my recommendation.

Minor bit, but you might want different colored d6's instead of the ones from the box set, just because it's annoying to grab the wrong dice when blocking/rolling armor. I managed some white dice with blue pips to still match the colors but he noticeably different.

Beer and pretzels , or age appropriate beverage of choice, and something for bragging rites that the winner can keep until the next match. It doesn't have to be anything expensive or GW related, something like a dirty sock (worn by former all star xxxxxxxxx of the xxxxxxxx xxxxxx team during their victory in the last blood season of blood bowl. It is said to have mystic powers that helped them prevail over their opponents. Then each time the two of you play, the one who has it must recite how your team possesses (insert full name of the item and it's lineage) and how you will be victorious. (Think of how ambassador Troi from star trek the next generation would always drone on about being the daughter of the fifth house and holder of the sacred chalice of rixx) This is an especially important ritual that should be observed especially when at the local game store as it will draw attention to the two of you, the game and the sweatiest/smelliest sock that you can find. All of which should help to get more people playing in attempt to expand your league (This is a tried and true method that should not be overlooked)

Depending on available funds you could buy a second core box, which would allow the two of you to fill out all positions and give you enough extra players for basing add ons for the other team. It would also give each of you a set of dice so you don't have to share (a personal pet peeve of mine). The second pitch, cards and templates allows you to each keep one at your own homes so only the teams need to travel.

If your into the GW Hhhhhhobby at all then you probably have an ogre or troll stand in, and possibly some goblins laying about to fill out the rest of the orc team.

The starter box already has two sets of dice, one in human blue, and other in Orc green.

My friend is buying the MTO trophies but I do like the dirty sock idea. I may have to make that out ultimate trophy.

we've been playing with our old board and dice, though I have assembled and begun painting my teams, so I forgot that part

What he meant is d6's that are a different color than your own block dice - so that you don't mistakenly pick up one kind when rolling for the other thing.

No, *I* said get a different color of d6's so you don't mistake them for the Block dice. He said get a second set of dice so you don't have to share. He's playing with the old starter and forgot the new one already came with two.
