They don't have names, though. They have titles. "Darkoath Warqueen" is far closer to "Mighty Lord of Khorne" than it is to "Khorgos Khul".

I'm just saying they may be individual characters for the campaign but the warscrolls will go generic afterward (or even be generic from the onset).

Ships are a big part of AOS given the distances - we have sky ships as well as ships that sail on various liquids.

I thought it was vampire pirates?

Oh blast it all my phone won't play the video!

Edit: okay, guys on discord showed me the vid.

I'm not greatly surprised though, I figured the Firestorm one was a possible teaser for the nearing Death focus.

Edit: Oh, forgot to ask this when the Beast Wars thing was announced but was their any background on that?

Yeah, Warhammer Community gave us a bunch of rules and background. AFAIK, the beast wars happened before the age of sigmar.

Nice! Thanks for the info.

Vampirates (tm) sound really cool, but since the last faction release also had a sort of nautical theme (Kharadron), I'm hoping this doesn't cause an overall theme shift for the setting.

I don't know. I would be pretty OK with AoS being age of pirates for a while. We could have ghost pirates, grot pirates, nurgle pirates and Aelf pirates. That sounds pretty awesome.

So as a sort of side note, I was looking around the web store last night, and I noticed the listing for Nurglings is gone from the Daemons of Nurgle section of the US site. You can still find them by searching, but usually when I see something like this happen, the model is getting moved to a new section. Could this be an indicator that Nurgle will be getting his battletome soon? Commence with wild speculation!

When I asked for Vampire pirates and stuff on the warhammer total war forums I got shouted down. I hope this is them. Going to be honest if it is I'll never ever get beastclaw raiders like I intended and will get Vampire Pirates lol or whatever undead themed pirates. It would be a more fitting enemy than Beastclaw for them. Also totally cool with more factions getting cool air/naval stuff. I still think the sky skaven should be more submersible looking in nature. Then my Overlords will have their old foes back.

Edit
Then again GW can be pretty bland at times. Best not to expect anything too cool. Could be an undead primarch lol.

I would be okay with that being a different game in the AoS universe, but that wouldn't feel like AoS. I honestly doubt this ship is anything more than a part of the storyline.

Yeah, it is just a picture of a ship. The previous one was a picture of a field. Hard to draw any conclusions based on that.

We pretty much know that there's a Nurgle battletome Q1 2018, I've heard February myself but I wouldn't be surprised to see late Jan.

Also of note, just checked the AoS Facebook post about this, and any time someone mentions Ghost Pirates or something of the like, the AoS account responded with things like "Maybe the portents shouldn't be seen as literal" or "These signs can be taken multiple ways". Maybe we should be looking at these previews as dreams to interpret in relation to the campaign rather than release previews.

Oh, that's very interesting.

Maybe a hint towards a big campaign (and releases) set in the realm of Death?

Though it being a "dream" is a good call too. Are we seeing the portents through the dreams of the four heroes that will lead them on their journey?

Or maybe they're just being cheeky because people are right, and they want to throw us off.

...or not. Who knows? We'll find out in 18+ days.

I'd definitely give it a look if they did something like that.

I find the usual gothic vampires and zombies and flesh constructs etc... that GW did for the VC faction and still does for undead in general very boring and uninteresting. I ran Tomb Kings in WHFB and had a blast with them. I liked them a lot, and loved their design. But I've never liked the VC stuff. If they were to actually get creative with undead again, I might give them a look.

I'm guessing you missed the Lustrian campaign, huh? The Sartosan Vampirates were awesome.

I'm going to hazard a guess that if we get anything like "spectral pirates", it wouldn't have ships or the like and just be an alternate deployment method.

Yes, but they were solved.

They ended up being the Endrin Skyriggers(the harpoons) and the Plaguebearer riding the snail(the whorled shell-like pattern).

Someone on the sigmar reddit bought up the FB post where they say the omen's should not be taken literally.

It could be undead pirates or it could not just don't go wild with your expectations IMO to avoid being disappointed. To be honest I would take new zombies over undead pirates along with a new liche hero and vampire heroes just saying. Also plastic blood knights.

Let's see. So far we have The Field and the Ship.

How could both of these relate to Nagash?

In ancient mythology the Field of Asphodel was a section of the Greek Underworld.

When crossing to the Underworld one would have to take Charon's boat or ship to cross into it.

EDIT

Also got confirmation that latest Stormcast model is NOT the Order Champion for Malign Portents.

Huh that actually makes sense perhaps if we think in those terms we might get close to the answer? He is the god of death and AOS is sort of following a mish-mash of greek/norse mythology. I mean sigmar throws lightning bolts and takes people away like einherjar.

Yeah, that's the direction of my thinking too.

My guess is Malign Portents is a leading up to the actual campaign later in the year but to kick it off we'll have our new heroes explore a Black Pyramid(guessing the new novel will be like the Silver Tower novel) that these visions lead them to.

My guess is Nagash is going to try to upset the balance of power in the Mortal Realms. Doing so though does something to reveal where SLAAANESH has been hidden or imprisioned, leading to a Summer Campaign and finally revealing the Shadowkin faction.
