Thanks Vik . I wanted to go completely alien as I could since Beyond the Gates of Antares takes place millions of years in the future and used gate technology to connect planets, many of which have not been accessible for eons. I think this one will provide plenty of possibilities.

Yorkright wrote: Lovely river and jungle terrain Theo, you should play Bushido you already have the terrrain to play. ;-) That hut is also a stroke of genius.

I would love to try the game. I’ve printed the rules, but I am not part of a gaming community. Plenty of options around me, but my work schedules are too impractical. Plus no shop near me carries it. I think Test of Honour is more likely as the local shop is trying to get interest up in it.

Well, I started working on the next two sections.

I also have plans for a special piece which is inspired from a view out some of the windows at my hospital. Logistics of it are still bouncing around my head.

I actually made a 90 degree curve before I left the house. No picture yet. I should have time tomorrow to work on it.

As for the other piece a will try and snap a picture tonight of it. It’s a waterfall at our hospital . It’s just a nice view, and I have to figure out how to make it a usable terrain piece that won’t look out of place.

Okay: 2 quick snaps of the waterfall from different angles

Just got home. Here is the turn in the river

Thats more like a spring than a waterfall, wouldn't you say? This is by far better to be done than an actual waterfall. Curve id looking good...very strong concept!!!

Yeah, it only has one or two tiers to it, so a spring makes a bit more sense and would be more practical and believable in the middle of a table than a waterfall.

Anyhow, before I went to sleep I started painting up the river bend piece. Here’s the three mostly done sections all together.

Edit: just got my order from 10 days ago

Last day of their sale, bought the £35 starter set and got the £25 transporter free
Now I’m just waiting for an eBay purchase when there was an sale that netted me two Ghar starters for 35% off with shipping

I love the river so far Theo, is it supposed to represent actual reddish brown fluid? or is it reflecting the red atmosphere of the planet it is on? What are you going to use as the water effect? Poured resin or some type of PVA product?

Keep up the great work!

Thanks Fango, I think the “water” will be reddish/brown, not a reflection. As for the liquid I’m using regular Elmer’s glue PVA. I had bought a gallon of it for a table layout, so I’m going to continue using it.

Not very productive week, new kittens and kids at camp.
I built the transport ship.

I did get the base painted and ready.

Also did the glue layers on some of the rivers

Thanks Vik.
The C3 (Concord Combined Command) is very Tau like. Largest faction in the Antares game with them being the most “ human” . There society is neurally linked together with a computer system that govern social the people. They also use plenty of Drones, up to and including fielding entire drone armies.

I’ll try and do a whole instruction if you really want. It was a lot easier to do than I thought it would.

In the mean time the muse struck me and I decided to make a silo/ building piece that’s just LOS blocking.

Similar to the river bed I started with a base of VCT tile (vinyl commercial tile). I made it slightly larger than the ink cartridge that will be the main part of the piece. Afterwards I glued broken parts of VCT next to the tank to make a drift that has built up over the years.

Next step is to add the Vallejo texture sand material by dabbing it onto the base and on top of the drift.

After all of it is covered but before it dries you cover it with flesh wash which changes the color of the sand to the reddish of all the other areas and give some it the mottled look.

Edit: went and added sand and wash. It’ll be tomorrow before it’s dried and stiff. River sections are still drying as I put on lots of PVA glue.

I’ll try and do a step by step river section tutorial later this week, but it’s the same steps as this piece.

Mate: i tried to research that vct...is it basically pvc flooring material? This is in fact the main reason i am asking for that step by step instructions because i liked the way that materail behaves and breaks...very out in the real world surface through the breaking off of pieces....was planning some hardeware store visit and shopping tomorrow anyways and this currently sparks my own inner muse now too....

That storage tank looks very convincing...you have a run fir this whole theme now, methinks

Im sure we are talking similar items. It’s not PVC like the pipes, but it is made of vinyl. Superglue bonds to it great, not so much with hot glue unless you scuff it up first. It’s tile used for cheap commercial areas and the finish is applied afterwards. Most schools in the US as well as hospitals and lots of retail stores used this type of flooring. The link above is for a case of 45 pieces $30 or $0.67 each square foot. If you score it with a knife(same blade as for your figs) it will snap on the line. For doing my terrain I am random snapping the edges with some snips and it makes jagged natural looking edges. This is a great material to make necromunda walkways out of because you can damage them and insert wire to look like concrete that’s been reinforced. If you don’t find this at your hardware store hit a flooring store.

I have about a half dozen more of these tanks sitting aside for now. I think it will be a one off for this table. The next table after this might be more receptive to a large chemical plant though.

Thx for that explanation, link didn't work but i got you...
I think that material is better suited for modeling than actual flooring...i bet a falling mug or can could do some serious damage to it ...but since no-one has mony in the social sector cheap has to do the job...

And i will see what i can lay my hands on tomorrow!

Ach...all that talk about different tables...I'm currently highly influenced by a youtuber called the terraintutor...and saw sime really nice vids about medival houses...so i am actually aflame for some mortheim even...the fact that i scored on ebay a kit of plastic bitz of the old mortheim building(sans cardbord) also motivates me too

The flooring is actually really durable, and easy to maintain once waxed, just time consuming to make it stay looking good.

I love Mel the terrain Tutor. He is fun to watch and listen to. Another great source of knowledge is Luke from Luke’s APS on YouTube.

Base of the silo is now dry.
It will slot into the painting cue...soon.

River sections PVA almost completely dry.

And a close up of the sections so you can see the “water line”

Builds (tower and river) look great, Theo! I'm somewhat familiar with the tile you're using, but isn't it adhesive on one side? And how is it in larger pieces for strength- is it too flexible over a certain size?

Great stuff!

These are not peel and stick tiles, but actual full glue down vinyl tiles. They come 3/8” thick and are sturdy enough to hold a bit of weight if not supported, or a bunch of weight if supported.

Well I hate FedEx now. The email saying I would receive my green horde pledge by end of business Tuesday has changed to delivery pending, but the package has been en route from Georgia for two days now with no update. I guess I’ve waited this long what’s another few days. Not like I’m going to touch it anytime soon .

Not ready for bed yet, and had a silly idea. Saw some seed beads at Walmart yesterday and thought about making some plants using floral wire and the seed beads. So I strung a few on lengths of wire and have them temporarily stuck into a small cork stopper. The blue tape is just to keep them from sliding off the end of the wire. I’m thinking of making them like bamboo stalks with just a leaf or two at the end. I’ll spray prime them white and then hit them with some color.

Thoughts or suggestions? Color options?

Well my attempt at the cactus didn’t turn out well....so why not tackle a cliff wall?

Paint is still wet, so we will see how it dries.
Cliff walls are an old model railroad trick using ceiling tiles made out of paper cellulose not gypsum, scored gently then snapped. It’s four layers thick here.
Then I made a 45 degree turn in the river starting with a 6”x6” base and then trimming down.

Here is a 2.5’ length approximately of the river. In the photo by my paint tube rack you can see three more straight pieces getting ready for the texture and paint. There’s also the 90degree turn somewhere and an end piece that I made, so I’m about 4’ in length . At least that’s what I’ll tell you guys .

The tile base is sturdy enough that it hasn’t warped any, though the pva looks like it may have cracked a little.

monkeytroll wrote:Cliff looks great, looking forward to seeing that become a waterfall......

Waterfall I’ll have to figure out how to do. I’ve seen a few tutorials, haven’t decided what way I’ll try yet.

The cacti I think I tried to do too much

The white base thing would get covered up with stuff, I just needed something to hold the wires.

No progress today. Still waiting for my 2sets of Ghar armies to arrive . I’ve never used trolltrader before. Not likely to do it again as the shipping has taken twice as long as ordering through Warlordgames. It was just a good savings from the eBay sale.

The cactus is a good start, but I think it needs fewer of the beaded tentacles - maybe just one in the middle, with the 'sucker' tendrils around it.

Cliff is looking good too. It could use some definition between the part where the water is running down and the edges - either smoothing down the water trail a little to show where the rock has been worn down, or building up on either side.

Thanks Insaniak , I think solo tentacle will probably be the route to pursue.
The waterfall was attempt #1, I wanted to see how the technique would work out, but I totally get what you mean with a worn down center area. It will serve its purpose for now, but I will pursue another route later.

The C3 work very similar to the Tau in how I read them. Use drones in situations where lives could easily be lost.

So after a quick email to trolltrader on eBay asking where my order was from almost a month ago, I got a reply with tracking showing they tried to deliver back on the 27th of July. No note was on our door or in the mailbox, and I had checked with the post office previously but they said nothing was there. I went this morning with the tracking number and mysteriously it appeared. So long story short, a 10 day delayed supply drop.

Two of the Ghar empire starter armies.....and a matchbox tank I found at the dollar store while waiting for the post office to open .

Not much time to do anything this morning as I a more bushed. I still have not decided on what color to paint the Ghar yet, so maybe the ten day delay helped.
