Yeah, that’s the direction I’m headed, just did the tail and legs in a base coat of Caliban Green. Glad someone besides me suggested it
highlord tamburlaine wrote:Nice progress on Demogorgon.
I always get intimidated by huge models like that, yet I keep buying them for some odd reason.
Can't wait to see the finished product- gives me hope for my Demogorgon I've got coming from Greebo...
I’ve had him for years and always wanted to paint him, but was afraid like you said, but what’s the worst that could happen? He gets a Theophony style crummy paint job.
aku-chan wrote:Those demon monkey heads are looking great!
Thanks, they were a big draw to the model for me. I was/and still am thinking about using the heads in my Dreamforce leviaathans for the glory of chaos.
Dr H wrote:For a covering over the wire trees have you considered tissue / PVA?
You can use any tissue paper; soak it in PVA/Water and wrap it around the tree. You can build up thick areas to manipulate into shapes, add the root spread at the base, stumps of branches, etc.
It can get tedious about the thinner branches, but stop early and hide the uncovered ones with foliage.
See my Mononoke piece, that's what I used for the trees on the base.
Good job on your current beastie.
The sculpts of the faces remind me of the beast at the end of Big trouble in little china...
Too complicated for me , just brush on, then paint , it’s how I roll.
Stevefamine wrote:This big guy is looking nuts

inmygravenimage wrote:The staged, bright colours are working so well. Really love the Hanuman vibe, and that purple on the demogorgon is tasty.
Well unfortunately the purple will most likely disappear, I’m liking the basecoat on the legs, but maybe the green and purple will work together...
No pic of the legs and tail, not much time and spring break for wife and kiddos. I did just order fake bamboo for my Bushido terrain, coming from China. See it in 2-3 weeks.

Exhausting week, little time to do much of anything.
Received the missing Dark Elf Bloodbowl arm today in the mail, good on GW,sent a few extra pieces as well from the sprue, nothing great except a piece of dragon skin cloak.
GCTstudios (Bushido) has shipped my show exclusive Bikou figure , it was showing out of stock but I ordered it anyway and I guess they found me one. I thought this would complete my ninja clan, but it turns out I’m missing one of the other ninjas , sneaky ninjas . I guess I’ll have to place another order to finish it off.
Also ordered some bamboo plants from China for terrain, just waiting on those.
Really just enjoying having started Facebook (because of the Bushido group, Test of Honour group, and Gates of Antares group. Finally broke down and started using the evil social media outlet.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Took a couple hours of me time this morning while everyone was asleep to work on the arm/tentacles of Demogorgon. Used death world forest green on the scales, death guard green on the long muscles and ushabti bone on the soft underside of the muscles. Green parts got a heavy wash of athonian camoshade while the bone got a heavy wash of agrax earth shade.
Definitely will redo the legs as that green does not fit the rest of this model.
Right side
Left side
Really glad I did the extra color on the faces now.
Thanks for looking .

Yeah, I definitely intend to redo the legs, at the time it was the darkest green I had and thought that was the route to go. Since then I bought different greens for the arms, which I will also use for the legs.
kestral wrote:Holy cow! Or unholy two headed baboon! Can't wait to see it finished.
thanks Kestral, I’m enjoying painting the beast, but I want to see it finished too.
Needed a break from Demogorgon, so I painted a tuna....

Well finished off Dudiko ( not Michael Dudikoff from the American Ninja movies of the 1980’s ) as she has boobs. I can’t figure out how I did the bases on Kerasu and the others , I need to get better at taking notes.
They will all blend fine later when I finish the bases. I ordered bamboo like Gits used on his terrain, so they will all have portable camouflage like they do in Fortnight.

Thanks Boss , I may never get to field him, but he is nice to have watching making sure I make the ring decisions.
Felt like doing some terrain. Started with some plasticard, a little foamcore, pieces of VCT tile and bamboo cake stand skewers. Wound up with the start of a nice little corner display piece for a board.
After some paint
The brown area will get a thicket of Bamboo once my order arrives from China.
Also picked up two aquarium decorations at Petsmart this morning for less than $20 total as they have a buy one get one 50% off till April 7th.
Thanks for looking.

Dr H wrote:Nice work. Like the terrain piece.
Thanks Dr. H, more will come eventually, just needed something to break a block, and looking at Japanese garden pictures got me focused on a little path. It all fell into place then.
Well I received a little ninja present in the mail today.
Show special Bikou, available only from GCTstudious when they are at shows. I’ve been waiting a while for them to post when they’d be at a show, and when they were it was not up for sale. I emailed them and got a reply saying they put it up because they forgot till I posted. Unfortunately it was out of stock . I ordered anyway just to get on a list (backordered), but I guess they scrounged one up for me. I thought this completed my ninja horde, but I was wrong . There is still one more ninja, Wamu the apprentice, who will be added to my next order eventually. I might grab another Karapan at the same time as you can have multiple and they come with two different heads.
Also grabbed some trees at HobbyLobby today using the 40% off coupon. $8 for 3 trees is reasonable to me. More will be had, maybe even tonight..... .

I love the dark green. May be unpopular, but certainly makes it look more monstrous and unnatural. Or maybe it feels more classic studio scheme. Anyway, I think it looks great.

Well maybe this weekend we will see some progress on the big galute. I always saw him as more orange than green, but never faced him in my years of playing D&D. Thanks
Well I decided to finish up Bikou, which means all my Bushido figs are painted once again , does that mean I have to order more?
My wife goes to a conference every year and it’s sunday through Tuesday next week. Means I have kid duty and “Have to take the days off” so hopefully I can plow through with Demogorgon this long weekend and maybe find my next project.
So possible future projects.
1. Still waiting on my Blackwater gulch Kickstarter stuff, production company is a one man operation and he’s been sick, so it’s running late.
2. Have had a recent itch to do a contemporary/near apocalypse timeline bit. No idea on rules or models, just vague stuff. I may have to just start planning stuff out.
3. Get back into doing some Gaslands stuff. Graven has been knocking out some wonderful stuff lately and it’s gotten me hyped, but it’s such a small scale game I might just do odd bits here and there.
4. I’ve been using Facebook.....don’t judge me , I’m judging myself harsh enough for doing it. But it’s rekindled some of my desires for Beyond the Gates of Antares. So I might jump back into messing about with that again.
Suggestions always welcome.

Not sure if I’d make up my own apocalyptic game, just a near future catastrophe setting for minis and modeling. I’m almost tempted to try using a really old RPG system “The Morrow Project” as a basis for the game. Maybe write my own module and build the town to eventually run an RPG if I ever can get back to doing that.
In the mean time I have been quiet due to work, wife being out of town and a bad stomach virus. I just felt capable of going down to my painting area today after three days of staying close to a bathroom. So leg day it was.
I have done the color split in the legs similar to the upper body, but the lower body had that dark green coat on it while the upper had white primer. I think it will actually help out in the end, just not be exactly the same.

Yeah I don’t want to rush this beast. In fact the back of the legs hasn’t gotten a wash yet. I wanted the paint to thoroughly dry there before I hit it.
Well like I said, Nurgle was reading my posts and decided to hit me again for good measure. My wife is at a conference, so I called her mom who was a nurse for 40 years at the hospital I currently work at. She came right over (she’s really a great mother in law, if not crazy like a loon ). So far the medicine and Gatorade are helping as my electrolytes must really be out of whack.
My next question to you all is this. I’m looking for cheap (I mean it’s me guys) feudal Japanese coins to use as Ki tokens for Bushido. I’d like them to have some weight (preferably metal) with texture or kanji of some type on them. While thinking about it I remembered I have a copy of Samurai Swords board game (formerly Shogun and currently Ikusa) which has 33 koku, but they are red plastic. They can be seen in this picture
But I’ve also seen these in store. They are 50 metal coins from the game Tokaido, lowest I’ve seen is $14, it just doesn’t look worn enough to me.
There’s also Chinese luck coins out there, which I can’t figure out how to bring photos from amazon over as my brain is not functioning at 100%.
These are probably the best looking to my eyes, but I just don’t want people to complain that it’s chinese and not pseudo Japanese . I know the game draws from a lot of different cultures, so I’m not too worried, just wondering if you all know any other alternatives. I really like the center hole in the coins for what I’m going with. Any help will be appreciated.

Japanese 5-yen coins are copper (but lighter in color than US pennies), have a hole in the middle, and are the only modern Japanese coin with no roman numerals. Given the current exchange rate, they're worth about 4 cents each. That might be your cheapest alternative, assuming you can locate a source.
