That temple/shrine was a nice find. Do you plan to do anything to the bamboo? I've stayed away from the plastic plants as I'm not sure what I'd do to paint them or otherwise tone down the plastic look.

Theo, You have not digitized those tapes yet? Uh-oh.

The bases look nice. A pain to pick up though, for me. the rounded edge is impossible to hold.

If you were a true Elvis worshipper you’d go through the trouble . Digitizing these tapes . No they are old church tapes from 40+ year old puppet shows and sermons. Plus many were duplicates of duplicates. These bases are actually really great as they are inserts that are appropriately sized for older 40k. So they are square edged that pop into the Round lips.

Good catch with these cassettes, I've lost my chance to procure them for similar use, but snatched some other junk instead. Would Love to see what You come to with them!

Go to garage sales and thrift shops, I know I’ve seen plenty of vhs tapes and cassette tapes there. Or even cd music stores that buy and sell old CDs, most have rubbish bins with cassettes and I found your lucky 8 tracks

I’m not planning on doing anything with the bamboo. Though Mel the terrain tutor has done videos on palm trees and other aquarium plants and how to tone them down on his Big Burma Build table.

Wow , I’ve been lazy....... Seriously, I haven’t been down to my desk in a while, but with Holy Week over and less projects at church maybe I’ll get some time this week.

I cleaned out the garage (Dumpster East) on Saturday. 4 hours of digging, tossing, cussing and kicking later it’s almost manageable in there. We have an old house (80+ years old) which has a single car garage which is really too tiny to be functional for car storage (really narrow) and it has no access into the house, so it holds the bikes, big power tools, lawn mower and other debris. We have been in the house for 8 years now and some boxes have not been gone through in that time. One of which was a 18gallon tote which had 40+ of these in it that I got for a penny each.

They are the color additives for ceramic tile grout. It’s part of an epoxy kit which this isn’t just the colorant and the two part epoxy was sold separately. When I worked at Lowe’s we cut out a whole bunch of colors and when they dropped down to nothing in price I bought them thinking eventually I might use them for some sort of weathering powder. Now I’m thinking of using them with some glue as just colored base texture. It’s really fine powder and I have 8 colors to try out.

More later, mad experimenting to do now .

Edit:

Autumn Green, Quarry Red, Sterling Silver, Saltillo
bottom left-right
Terra Cotta, Tawny, Sea Glass, Twilight Blue
32mm Bushido figures for scale. You can see the grain size on some of the 50mm bases. This is just using Elmer’s glue to adhere the colors to the base.

Thanks Graven, it’s a benefit to being a hoarder .

I’ve been drawing a blank on Bushido stuff lately, and while checking Facebook (yeah, Gits got me hooked there with Bushido ) I joined a Gates of Antares group. Seeing some nice Antares stuff painted up and looking at terrain bits spurred on some building this morning.

Scavenged pipe makes a chunk of pipeline debris with Xenos plants growing from the shade.

Couple of Dr. Seuss inspired xenos trees providing shade for a Concord trooper while he checks the ammo reserve.

Small scatter pieces to get the juices flowing a little. Trying to use some of the colored powder in my previous post instead of the Reikland Fleshshade as the powder is cheaper by far. I think it looks....okay.....but more experimenting is required to achieve a similar goal.

The silliness of using the Grumobile in a wargame is highly tempting. I could buy one and put it on the "someday" pile next to the Hulk Ragnarok bus. I await your progress for further inspiration.

Well not much progress, just a basecoating for the GRU-01 “pillbug” Rutherford tank.

You should play , but you should sell those and make some $$$ to buy all the things.

Please do , Grumobile just screams the sort of 50s nostalgia that is a thing the base for Gaslands. After all I think that is where the historical timeline began to splinter off, the moon race and mars colonies being the real prize in the Gaslands universe.

That's not even a question

I’ll have to look for the minion vehicles next time , but this was screaming Rutherford to me, hence the army green.

Just a quick green paint job. Details, weathering and maybe a big R to replace the G later. I added a small wooden dowel to be the 125mm cannon on the front and I’m currently thinking what to do for my other build slot. I’m counting it as a tank, so right now he is sitting at 46 cans cost. The 20 hull points should help him out while he whittles down the opponents with the main gun. He is not in the race to place 1st, just to make sure his team is the only ones moving . He will probably get escorted by a couple jeeps or a muscle car to take the flags.

Sorry for the silence guys, just not getting to much done lately. Though there was some small progress. I’ve been doing a little scatter terrain, most of this has been done for a couple days.

A few scatter pieces, trying new basing with the tile grout coloring, not liking the outcome, but will try some more because it will be much cheaper than the way I was doing it. The little garden square is inspired by the episode of Star Trek next generation where Wesley crashes into a garden on a ‘civilized ‘ planet and they try to execute him.

Built and base coated an atmospheric condenser.

Parts that were used: IV tray, IV stops and some paper towel rollers from a dispenser. All reclaimed from my work, also note that I had permission and these were sterile, not used .

Yep, it may have been designed for one purpose, but insanity and a large enough bits box (house) works wonders .

Camkierhi wrote:You always get the coolest stuff to play with. Great work though. Love the garden.

It truly is one mans trash is Theo’s treasure .

Well GW has been whispering in my ear for a long while and I broke down again. I wanted to buy Looncurse and build a Sylvaneth army, but they drastically under produced yet again, distributors only getting single digit copies . Anyway my local shop had a customer appreciation day today, they normally do no discount, but they did 15% storewide, so I finally bought into Warhammer Underworlds:Nightvault and got the Skaven expansion to bolster my skaven Bloodbowl team in the picture. 20+ years ago I started Warhammer fantasy with a skaven army. There was a wine and cheese shop next to the game and comic book store I frequented (and later worked at) and so I went over and got names of cheeses for each skaven, along with Monty Python cheese shop sketch names . Hopefully this doesn’t continue to grow.....who am I kidding .

Thanks for bringing up some childhood Trek terrors, Theo! I really think You are too harsh on Yourself - things look right and proper. Everything can be improved, sure, but this terrain looks on par with Your other efforts. And cheaper is a good bonus too.

Condenser is good, that tray had just enough ribs to make it realistic.

So new direction n a whim, must be my thread .

I picked up Warhammer Underworlds: NightVault on Saturday at the FLGS customer appreciation day. The store had people playing it while I was there, so it really helped sell the deal, though I had been eyeing it for months and had every intent to buy it before I walked in. Today I picked up a copy of Warhammer Underworlds:ShadeSpire, which is the first season of the game and I still out of production, but the collector in me wanted it even though NightVault has more guts to it and season one is not “NEEDED”. Saturday I also grabbed the Spiteclaw’s Swarm team box (skaven) as they just look great and I have a skaven BloodBowl team assembled and awaiting paint.

Anyway, the last few weeks I’ve had a chance to look over some models and was considering getting back into AOS (never in AOS before, but Warhammer anyway), and the Stormcast were really catching my attention for some reason. No idea what spurred it on, but a lucky windfall hit me so the pieces fell into place, and now I’m gearing up with The Specialist games while building them towards an eventual AOS army (years away).

I assembled the NightVault teams this weekend and the Skaven swarm as well as a free Stormcast guy I got with a magazine purchase. I know GW has been putting out some great models lately, but these are absolutely fantastic kits. Even though they are pushfit, they are not like the 2nd edition Warhammer 40K space marine static pose guys. They are extremely detailed and have great action in their poses. The undead team that comes with NightVault, Thorns of the Briar Queen, are much better than I had anticipated and have a great flow to them. They all got primed this morning and I’m starting with the freebie guy as a test subject for my color scheme.

So far just the first layer of Leadbelcher on the armor panels, I have two color thoughts in my head for the chamber. The first idea is a Red and white color scheme which I thought would be different as I’m seeing lots of blues and greens around. Red and white are also the colors of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team which is my hometown and should be pretty striking with the silver armor. I’m a little nervous about painting white though as it can be tricky and tedious as hell. The second idea I had is to do the cloth in yellow and black, also striking and very reminiscent of my 40K love of the Iron Warriors. I think it would also look great with the silver armor, but I’ve painted so much yellow over the last few years I’m frankly bored of it.

Wish me luck, as I’m going to actually TRY and improve my painting skills with these models, and also try and get back into a gaming group with the Shadespire group at the FLGS.

Thanks for checking in .

Thanks Youashock , I decided to do the red/white, though I’m not really feeling it so far, but I was getting the knight hospitallier vibe from it.

Little progress as I’m getting ready for work.

Just base colors right now. As I said, I’m not totally feeling the Red and white scheme, but I’m going to press on as I’m still at a really early stage here.

So ideas for my “Army” are in development. One of the first ideas I had was reflecting back on the movie the Matrix. I can’t recall if it was that movie or another sci-fi flick where the director completely filmed while avoiding the color blue. Not sure if it was for a screen backdrop (green screening/ or bluescreening in This case)or just a personal choice, but I was going to intentionally skip a color on the army. I was originally going to skip blue as well, but now I’m thinking of skipping green as I’m thinking of using a glowing light powder blue for runes, magic and spell effects. The powder blue is also a throwback uniform color for the St. Louis Cardinals. Staying away from green might be hard as basing usually has plants on it, so maybe just removing the green from any part of the model and only on the basing would work. This could also make them look slightly less “Natural” which is a good thing in my opinion.

I’ll kill around some other ideas. Let me know your guys thoughts on the green ban, or other ideas you might have along whole army lines.

I can see the attraction with Shadespire. Some of the smaller, 3-5 model warbands, are a great introduction into AOS. Like the Cardinals look for your Stormcast as well.

I think what’s really drawing me is the game lengths. 3 turns plays in about 30-45minutes.

So not much progress as white takes so long , hopefully the new contrast paints work like they say as that apothecary white looks amazing.

First Shadespire figure is taking shape.

Still a long way to go on him, but I’m pleased with his and the other stormcast guys faces. I’m trying to hold back on the amount of washes I’m throwing around, I’ve just been dowsing models lately and I need to start being more conservative.

One thing that bothers me about these models is all the details that don’t get painted. I mean the armor panels are all reliefs, like the gladiator in the movie Gladiator who has the silver face mask.
