Cool use of found materials. I have found that drawer pegs (often sold in bags at craft stores for cheap) make great mushrooms, too. And they're often significantly taller. I layer hotglue on my stuff, but that's way more complicated than the simple design I think you're going for here.

True Warboss, I am going simple and easy with these bases as most are just to show where there is a line of sight obstacle, a movement difficulty area or special rules for moving through an area.

So I started on the "Whartleberry patch" (their name not mine, might be mispelled , it's an area of ground with hallucinogenic plants. It doesn't stop movement or block line of sight, but if a unit enters the area and stays in it at the end of the turn then they can suffer from bad effects.

This could also be the spiker patch where the plants shoot spikes at passer-bys that can kill them, which in turn gives them fertilizer .

I'm not happy with the paintjob, but it's "alien" so only that gooefy guy on the history channel that knows about ancient aliens could tell me it's not real looking

Also in the interest of making a bunch of terrain really quick, I sat down for an hour with some old CDs that I'm not using anymore and knocked out 10 more terrain pieces.

There are 2 sand dunes, 2 rough ground, 2 Woodlands, a lava flow, a industrial spot, a water spot (the one with the playing card back pretty visible, and a ruined home/garden.

THe ruined home/garden took the majority of the time as I used the mosaic tile pieces that I had used on a city fountain in my old thread, and hand laid all the individual bricks and glued them into place. Also made a wire armature for a tree/ vine growth which will get flocked later after priming and painting.

Now to wait for it to all dry and then I'll prime them. Probably no paint today.

Nice variety and excellent use of CDs. I've got dozens of those things (that I don't use) and turn them into various terrain projects all the time. They make for great shell holes because they're large enough to fit more than one model in them when they're done.

Well I knocked out two more cd terrains, will prime them later.

Leftmost is a marsh. I plan on murky brackish colors for the glue areas.
The right one is another ruin or sand trap. The main part is a Dust tactics ruined well I grabbed for $2 at MM, just some more mosaic tile bits around the base for more details.

VIK
missed you Sir Wie Gehts? Glad to see you, and thanks for the reply.

So no picture updates currently, but did call warlord games in England to see what's happening with my order. I got a email saying "times almost up to use your coupon" and I hadn't received a confirmation from WG but did get my PayPal receipt. Turns out they got my email wrong in the system so my confirmation was undeliverable, but the order is good and I confirmed getting the free Lt. Speirs figure also. Since it's all on hold till the Chryseis book releases July 1 I was worried that it might be mid July before I get it, but since I'm an American they are shipping it June 23rd, so I might get it before the stores in the U.K.

As for other news I'm looking for some cheap foliage(fake plants) to put on some bases. I'll be hunting for some Spanish moss and small clearance flowers to look like the ginormous plants I see on most BtGoA tables. If I find any deals I'll post them here.

Hey Theo! So this is where you've been hiding out! But where are the zombies?

The CD-terrain pieces are pretty cool. I spy the 3rd edition jungle trees there, too! I may have to rip that idea off since mine are still on sprue all these years later. Well, rip it off when summer gets here, anyway.

Ghar and Concord look good as well, the Ghar especially with the circular ...sensors? picked out. I admit I haven't gotten any further than purchasing the rulebook and templates for GoA and putting them in a pile. Don't know how much further I'll ever get with them since I bought it as a 40k-replacement, which it looks like I may no longer need. I like that AdMech Ghar idea as well - if I ever end up with those kits, I may well rip that idea off you as well.

Had to recheck my German-English dictionary as I thought that meant "to run", but I'm sure there's plenty of colloquial uses for it just like we use terms in America to mean other things too. As for the flowery stuff, I plan on going to hobby lobby this week with my 40% off coupon and seeing what I can find, they have a huge selection that's always changing with the season so usually something on clearance.

Those are indeed 3rd edition plants , I cut all mine off the sprues recently and decided that this was as good a time as any to use them. Watch a couple of the videos online for gates of Antares and see what you think. It plays quick, tons of terrain needed, but games are only about an hour or so long with the system they have. I'm sure there's a lot of rules with different types of armor, but that can all be picked up later on. There's also a fan made "Bolter Action" with one page rules to use with 40k figs. I haven't read it all yet, but looks promising.

Well only about 10 minutes of paint time yesterday, but productive. I got the two broken ground terrain pieces done with a quick solid paint color and then a drybrushing. Since the primer was brown anyway two other coats really is all they needed.

Good for a first run anyway. Next time I do one I might grab some larger rock and add a few. I'll need a couple of really large rocks for boulder fields at some point. These don't hinder vision or provide cover, but the do impede movement a tiny bit.

Gonna try and get some more painted before church.

Found these before church.

The 4 should make good alien trees.

Also did some more CDs.

Thanks Grimdork , hope I can find more like them.

So more terrain CDs, this time forest/woods

First two are light woods, as denoted by the wire frame trees, still must figure out how to make the foliage part. The last is heavy forest as denoted by the dowel rod trunks.

Then decided to do some larger pieces, so I took a piece of 12" x 12" Vinyl Commercial Tile (VCT) and marked it out for an 8"x 8", two 4"x8", and a 4"x4" squares.

I then grabbed my old 3rd edition 40K starter box terrain and some glue and got these.

And

Now I'm out of white glue and need more brown primer. These are not primed yet as we had massive downpours for over an hour with flash flooding. Hopefully can rectify the problem in the morning.

I forgot to take pics of some other CD terrain that I did last night/this morning, I'll take those later. I also finished painting some of the other pieces this morning as well. But that'll be for another time.

Thanks Cam, high praise indeed .

So wife got in shower and I brought in the stuff .

Big white plastic piece in back I think will make a nice top for a power station. It might get subdivided into multiple pieces since it's so large though.
Across the table top, more fake foliage, hopefully I can break the glue gun out and get to work on some tomorrow. 2 bags of aquarium rocks, one smooth river rock, the other is some blue crystal looking rocks. I was thinking of doing some strange blue crystals before I saw these . Also hard to see but the packing protector for the bottom of an artificial Christmas tree and some plastic washers. I bought a pack of large tongue depressor sticks and now I have a few smaller craft sized ones to accompany them. And last but not least a small collection of cork tube caps all the small size, but I think I have a plan.

Also coming this week as I continue to bust up broken things at church that have been put in storage in the basement, I'll have 4 teams of fussball players off their rods . I saw the two tables that are busted up (and we got a new "professional table" ) and figure one day I'll make a set of terrain pieces to look like Easter island using these guys .

Speaking of making terrain....

Still able to seperate to make painting easier.

Leaving for work soon. See you'll later.

Borrow away, I have half of one of these containers full of them , so I wasn't worried if I botched it up.

Been using my day off running errands. Shuttling kids to and fro as well. But I got an email from warlordgames with notice of their summer sprue sale. 4 gates of antares sprues as well as sorues of the old wgf zombie survivors for cheap

Ghar reinforcements will most likely be coming .

Thanks AOV, it's a necessary evil when your married.

Well as the Tick's enemy the Mad Bomber would say

BOOM baby!!!

And boom out too.

I had the red parts for a couple of years now in a gift box from Dsteingass, some sort of computer thing-a-ma-bob protector , and they were sitting their looking sad. Which got me thinking of dave and then I had crane envy from his newer builds, and that's my thought process. The rest is just glue, snips, magnets and floral wire. Yes magnets hold the boom out and keep it in place. I'm thinking of using chain instead of cable for this beast, I've got some lovely chain that I believe came from Cam a couple of years ago as well. I'll need to figure out how to attach this and then build the tower for it too.

Well the hunt is still productive. I stopped by hobby lobby last night, left empty handed because the thing I want is in the floral department and floral is 50% off, but then that asterisk got involved and said "Nope, this is one of the things not on sale in floral." So I dropped it all at the register and left.

I went back this morning and used the 40% off coupon and bought one bag. I'll do it individually and get my discount thanks .

So what was it..... well a few things but what I reall was after was tree making gear.

does that look good enough for government work?

I just took my wire trees that I made and shoved little bits down the wire until it was full. Kind of like stringing popcorn to make popcorn rope decorations.

It comes in 3-4 different colors, I got the darker green this time, but I think I'll snag the light browns next time as those look like dead dry plants.

Bag should be enough for many trees. $5.99 a bag, minus 40% because I'm a freakin cheapskate.

I also picked up another can of primer because mine was about out.....but I bought that at Walmart.....because cheapskate.

Looks convincing...and respect for not biting the bullet at the cashiers....they think most of the customers fall for that "one item alone not reduced" scheme... nasty...

Also...i recently saw some using dishwashing sponges hacked to bits with green paint in a mixer to make your own tree flock...havent tried that, as I think my wife would rightfully kill me after I greener her mixer permanently...

Thanks Aetare, it's been very fun building these up.

Just a quick stop by, I placed a order from warlord as they have a sprue sale going on. Just picked up 2 Ghar bombard suits and one additional Ghar battle suit. I'll be able to field two units of bombards then. With shipping it came to $25.04, which is cheaper than anywhere else by far and I got to pick my mix.
