Some interesting tidbits from the press release -

No Quarter Prime #1 comes (in Sept) with a free exclusive Mini.

And this:

Once the Skorne Command book releases in September, Privateer Press will no longer publish supplemental books for WARMACHINE & HORDES, with the exception of a Force book each year corresponding to the annual release of a new Faction for the games

1 new faction a year now?

So, I wonder what's going to happen with all of those "theme" books they were talking about?

1 new faction a year seems insanely optimistic balance wise given the challenges at the end of MK II and the early stumblings of MK III.

Going to be in NQ now.

It overall sounds like a great direction. NQ had lost its direction as it drifted away from providing value to the core game and the theme books, while interesting, really felt like they'd struggle to have enough content to justify them. Marrying the two really puts NQ back on track, IMO and makes issues something exciting to look forward to again.

1 new faction a year can work if it follows the Covergeance/Grymkin model. I suspect in part we'll see the Mercs and Minions cannibalized with its various sub-factions expanded into something Grymkin sized. Minions was basically the big failed experiment of slow growing sub-factions, so I suspect we'll see them rebranded under their own thing eventually. Same goes for Cephalyx and Rhul and the like.

It sounds like this is a great idea - The force books were becoming too many and this way, no quarter is actually worth buying.

That cover on the September NQ - EPIC Brisbane! Looks like medium based armor with jump jets like the Minuteman.

To be fair no one was really buying the new books anyway.

Everything is in war room. And soon the cards will be online too. Its just a waste of paper.

I did buy one of the books and was very disappointed.

Apart from the updated stat cards it's mostly recycled fluff.

I look forward to the new NQP .

One new faction a year - I wonder what factions we're talking about or if the "One new faction" will be a "trencher faction" but all under Cygnar - specific rules to enhance a trencher oriented list, but not really a new faction in the traditional use of the phase. I doubt that they could come up with that many new ideas every year - look how long it took them to introduce the Grymkin.

I think they'll be more or less entirely new factions. They've essentially been doing this for a while:

2014 - Convergeance
2015 - Cephalyx
2016 - MK3
2017 - Grymkin

I think there's plenty of options. Cannibalizing Mercs and Minions alone would net them years worth of new factions if they broke out and expanded Rhul, Ord, Llael Resistance, Pirates of the Broken Coast, Cephalyx, Pigs and Gators. I suspect we'll see Zu soon than later but the IK has always had little factions that PP has struggled to pay lip service to. It seems they've decided the proper answer is to just go in whole hog on them one at a time.

Oversaturation of Factions might not be a good idea

Mercs and Minions still didn't get updated books for MKIII. Minions still don't have a gargantuan. They'll become the new sisters if there's a new faction each year. But the new skirmish game seems to feature pigs and gators are featured in Widower's Woods.

You can find me in the Chicago Tiki Room, where the drinks are always strong but don't taste that way!!!

I'm guessing the one faction a year will be the full theme books listed as a faction. The theme stuff will leak in No Quarter, then the Theme Faction will release with an all in one book. It is sorta like how Dark Age does factions, there are the Main factions, then there are all these factions within the main ones.

While I'd love to see them turn Rhul into a full faction, I doubt they'd say a new faction a year and then just break up mercs - I think people would see that as a pretty transparent repackaging. I also think they'd run out of ideas that are plausible. Outside of Mercs/minions that already exist, what else is there? Infernals, Zu and maybe an Orgoth return? They could just make something up that is unrelated to current releases, but I don't know how many times they could do that without jumping the shark.

I'm not saying its just repackaged Mercs, I'm saying the Mercs getting full faction status every now and then lets them do this for quite a long time. You already listed enough new factions to get to 2020 and if you stagger that out with Rhul and say, Blindwater, you're out to 2022 or 6 years since the new edition change. That's an absolute eternity for a minis game these days and by then things will have changed again. I don't expect a faction a year to be more than a promise for the next 2-3 years, shorter even if its a flop or longer if it proves successful.

Theyre probably going to be limited factions ala Convergence and Grimkyn rather than full factions like Cygnar and Circle.
