But yes, old helmets fit and they're really not difficult to come by.

I worked Neuro for five years, motorcycles and GSWs have taught me that protecting your melon is pretty damn important. And that was before I joined the Army and I had it beaten into my head how important a helmet is.

Oh man, I totally missed that Apothecary standing right there in the open. Traditionally, I have hated and avoided those models but this is the first one I've thought actually looks good.
Hope that is what's in the Start Collecting box as I'll be converting/Sculpting my own Chaplain to match Black Templars better.

Also makes me wonder if BTs will have an Emperor's Champion or Neophytes since they seem to be getting watered down. I anticipate the changes to the less popular chapters to be similar to what IG did with using doctrines to differentiate between the different IG armies... which makes me sad.

RE - Helmets aren't hard to come by. Part of the problem is that the ones who have their helmets off, have them molded onto the model in fairly obnoxious ways. If your army has robes and incense and other ornamental stuff, this can be an easy fix but you're gonna have to carve it off and smooth it over, then add whatever details. If you're running a pretty standard power armor army, this probably means resculpting whatever plate you cut it off of and throwing pouches over it.

And as an added bonus it means you don't have to mess around with flesh tones, or end up with cross eyed Marines

40k is like a Hollywood movie. If a main character starts the fight with a helmet, he loses it pretty fast

thats only a problem with the re-built sergents. and thats easily solved by picking up one of those 3 packs of intercescessors to use as a sergent, since they have the same equipment as their squad.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Count me in the "Not without a helmet" team. It just doesn't look right. I like my HQ and elites to have FANCY helmets, thats why I bought 6 Balthasar from Dark Vengeance just to have that helmet in all of my HQ's.

The "I'm the captain so I'm just a bald marine that is yelling!" is just ugly at least for me. Why be barehead when you can have a winged helmet, or a Roman Crest, or Horns, or whatever you like?

I'm quite enjoying painting the helmets of my sergeants/veterans white (Imp Fists) and was looking forward to seeing what a full white Reiver helmet would look like. Fingers crossed!

I can't help but notice that the Chaplain has nearly the exact same pose as the Gravis Armor Captain, except mirror-flipped. Not a bad thing, since he doesn't appear to have the belly the Captain does.

I am really hoping the Chaplain has a helmetless option (for those that want it) and the Apothecary has a helmet option (for me, since I am totally doing this guy as my In-Game Avatar and I would never be dumb enough to expose my head in battle).

well the bright side is that Primaris Heads are interchangeable with standard marine heads so even if there is no helmeted option (and so far all the character kits have allowed for a helmeted and helmetless option) you should be able to get a helmet easily. if you don't have a TON of spare Space Marine helmets already just ask at your FLGS.

The Easy to Build Reivers box has two out of the three with helmits.

I think GW's goal in reducing "bloat" was to remove it from just the core rulebook. I think the idea was to make it so everything would ideally be on the unit's datasheet (barring the army-wide rules and some weapon statlines). I always expected we were going to get more stuff on the datasheets when the codexes started coming out. But, my concern isn't with getting more rules, but how complex those rules might get (see, for example, all the rules Castellax get in 30K).

More than once I saw special forces and infantry/mortarmen outside the wire without their helmets on. A lot seemed to see it as completely optional. Not me, but my head was the most likely part of me to get shot on any given day.

Oh Nice! I'm loving the Chaplain, Apothecary, and the Plasma Interceptors. I like the head on the Interceptors. If you look close its like a blast visor that swings down to further protect the face and probably shield the lighter helmets optics. The two in front have theirs down but the one in the back has his up showing the normal Interceptor helmet. I like everything about the Aggressors except the hands, they look far out of scale. What I'll probably do is swaps some Interceptor heavy bolter arms/hands in their place as I like the hand held look better. I'm not sure we'll get Primaris Terminators but these Gravis suits will make an excellent base for conversions.

I don't view this as bloat. They're not introducing a new concept like flyers or super heavies into the game. Stratagems and CP exist and doing other things with it is inconsequential. Now if they require multiple codexes for an army then it'd be a problem, but I don't see that happening yet.

Same here. I think what people interpreted as "getting rid of bloat" is actually a mix of two things:

The first is that rules were streamlined. Stuff like getting rid of a ton of tables, getting rid of different unit types, everything having the same profile, etc.

The second is the plan to reduce the need to constantly flip through multiple books just to figure out how a single unit actually works. All the actual special rules are on the profile for each unit, rather than having to look at a unit, page through the codex, then reference the big rulebook to find out what the rule actually does.

Even without an Army Builder it's been super easy for me to just copy the layout and make a simple Excel spreadsheet and end up with a 5x3 index card for each unit that has their stats, all the weapon stats they actually carry, and all the special rules.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

The one and only space marine product I have ever purchased was Battle for Macragge as a teenager. I have played exactly two introductory scenarios for 40K from said box. I will now also buy a box of Reivers. No idea if I will ever use them, but dang, those are beautiful models.

I could never stand the look of the standard marines, they have just always looked like toys to me. Bandy legged poorly proportioned toys that didn't live up to the fluff. The Primaris look great.

I hope that the shoulder pads are separate in the 10 man Reiver kit so I can just leave them off. I also hope there are options to equip them with full helmets. Packing around a bunch of armor but leaving your head exposed just looks incongruous to my eye.
