8th edition

Quick 500pts Combat Patrol in 8th edition. Space Wolves vs Tyranids.

First game of 9th ed. Necrons vs Fabus creation. 55-63 loss. Got too pinned down on quarter and misused scarabs(should have used them as suicide missile to score 3 vp) and warriors(tried to help immortals vs venom crawler but that didn't do anything...Should have used in tandem with skorpek destroyers to try to get his rear objective).

But that warrior/immortal vs venom crawler became runnning joke. Crawler charges, kill 2-3, I pull back 1" getting dead back, warriors shoot, repeat. Took until end of game when DDA had free time to blow that thing skyhigh that it ended.

But as it tied 2 of my troop units and kept gving him kills for thin their rank seconary it was very good deal for him...

Organized lord of the rings tournament today and as odd number of players came played as well to ensure no bye rounds. Tournament won by same guy that has won previous 4 tournaments in Finland so...yeah he's doing pretty clear sweeps! Well if you are good you are good and rest of us need to catch up ;-)

Pretty weird. I had never before seen tabling of one side in LOTR(scenario ending rules make that generally pretty hard as you either end when one side goes under 25% models or start rolling 1-2 after one side loses more than half the army). Today I got tabled TWICE. And by same family(first son in round 1, then by dad in round 3...).

First game, my grey company vs Dark Lord Sauron. In lords of battle which is about worst possible scenario for this matchup...For one it's wounds caused. Well I have more wounds(since fate also counts) than his army. For second game ends after you roll 1-2 when one side has broken. Well as long as Sauron is alive he CANNOT break so basically game starts to possibly once I have lost 7 guys. Third. Every time hero is involved in fight where enemy hero dies you regain lost might...My entire ARMY is made of heroes! That's the point of grey company. Each guy is a hero Even my lowliest guy is almost as good as most faction's basic hero! So Sauron has easy time refreshing his might...And when my aragorn died on his first charge(rolling 1,2,2 for duels, 1,1,2 for fate meant I automatically died...) it was game over. All rangers dead in 30 minutes.

Round 3 angmar vs Dol Amroth. I got nicely surrounded half the cavalry at first but they grinded my infantry in the end and Imrahil joining sealed it. Witch King had taken control of center(scenario objective) but his heroes were unstoppable to my army and game continued(that 1 or 2 on roll didn't come up) way too long after I broke and when he managed to tag Witch King before my move(thus denying stand fast) looooots of orcs ran. In the end it was 4 models vs his 4 models and I got tabled....

So son tabled smallest army of tournament and dad one upped it and wiped biggest army of the tournament. What kind of vendetta that family has against me?-)

I started this threat a little over three years ago. I had recently moved to a new state and away from my gaming group. Major life events and a new career meant that my gaming time had dried up to almost nothing. The few games I did manage always happened when I made it home and saw my friends and we threw some figures on the table.

For a long time I wondered if I would ever play on a regular basis ever again. Watching this thread grow and seeing all the awesome games people were playing always made me happy. I kept painting, kept collecting rule sets and hoped that one day life would take me back home and my friends.

I made it happen this year, moving back home just a few weeks ago. I missed most of 8th edition and all of us were excited that my return coincided with the release of the new edition. Despite being home life has thrown other hurdles in front of us (thanks COVID-19!). We've spent the last few weeks quarantining, reading up on the new rules and planning lists.

Last night we had our first game. Nothing special, just a 25 PL Combat Patrol game. We played outside with masks on and had a great time. We're already planning to dive into the campaign rules and get the games rolling again.





Keep posting games on this thread. I love seeing the tables and miniatures and the various rule systems in use.

First non meeting engagement tournament of aos for me. Round 1 my nemesis bonereapers but thanks to insane dices won 28-11. He kept rolling 1's, i kept rolliing 6's. Too many for me. Rolling double 6's on round 3 kept general alive which　cost me bait secondary which meant 16-4 tournament score rather than 18-2. Lol.

5th edition game

salamanders/admech VS berserkers 2k points

central objective inside turret bunker (to get the objective you have to kill the auto turret bunker)

2500 points of Titanicus, Favilla's heavy extermination enclave held the line against Astorum's wildly rushing Hounds. skies filled with bombers and artillery, at the end the Ashen Gods crushed their assailants with unyielding impunity and sent the Warp Runners back to lick their wounds with all but their leading Warlord destroyed and trampled to dust for mere two losses in return. The remaining engines were pretty badly mauled and running their reactors red hot, though

Flesh eater court vs idoneth deepkin. Won 14-11. Turn 3 I had to sacrifice my leader and just sit there waiting to be killed to score 3 vp's(as gap shows that was vital...). Eels charged in and after armour saves had caused _54_ damage. Good luck saving 41 of them with 6+++

Not much to look at, but I am developing some Korean Air War rules. This was a play test on the floor with my kid....

Those are some pretty huge trees!

Nice to see jungle boards, it feels like a neglected environment in comparison to urban and desert boards.

Thanks for sharing Davout. I have been in a very similar situation to yourself, like you, seeing other people's games brings me some joy too. Hopefully once things return to normality I can upload some pics from my own games soon.

Not really. Miniature games are often undersizing trees because frankly having 30-40m tall trees is impractical in 28mm scale...But in 6mm scale it is MUCH more practical. 33m tall would be about half a meter in height in 28mm scale...yeah who wants half a meter tall trees And you would then need to add bulk as well making it REAL tricky to actually play on board ;-)

Couple tree heights IRL:

Eastern white pine: 45 – 63 m
Birch 27-30m or so
Spruces are large trees, from about 20–60 m (about 60–200 ft) tall when mature, and have whorled branches and conical form.

With warlord standing at around 33m tall...notice how eastern white pine can be about TWICE the height of warlord. Spruces are at lowest still good 2/3(so maybe about head height?) of warlord titan.

If anything that board needs even taller trees! ;-) Redwoods are 91 meters. Nearly height of THREE warlord titans standing on each others shoulder...

If you want some huge trees i have found that aquarium trees work very well, i got gifted a box some years ago and they look pretty nice on the table.

1k necron vs salamanders. His force fairly static so once i got 1st turn was locking him out well. 2++ lychguard took his entire army(what's left) to deal and that was with poor save rolls. Skorpek lord had free time to deal with aggressors and warriors thanked lychguard from soaking fire by doing 9 wounds past save to marines. Reaper does do damage if you get within 7"....

2++ isn't going to survive codex. If does comboing with obsec is just evil

How do the Lychguard get to 2++?

Little 500 pointer with my mate, dipping our toes into 9th for the first time. My DE Vs his Iron Hands, Assassination mission.

Naturally his HQ/victim was hiding in the cover (fuel tank thingies), surrounded by his damn near bulletproof forces.

I drove round in circles in my Raider, peppering them with spitballs and harsh language, AKA splinter weapon fire... It was not a winning strategy

We had a blast last weekend, playing a version of the Titandeath scenario with some 6000 points of Astorum / Defensor assailants rushing Favilla's 5000 point line. Report and more in the blog!

1k game necrons vs orks led by ghazkhul. Opponent new to game(2nd game) and got shook by lucky shot from stalker that alpha striked deffdred(2 shots, needed4's to hit, 3's to wound and 8 wounds with d6 damage weapon...) so made mistake of sending ghaz vs wraiths and meganobz jumped toward stalker.

Stalker died yes but skorpek lord dealt with meganobz and after 3 combat rounds(first with 2++, then 3++ and another 2++) 1 wraith still alive. Cp gone but i got objective(and my secondary involved holding that) and ghaz was kept busy. Disengaged and with warriors and praetorians went trying to kill last 6 wounds. Tactically bad idea but vp lead was already sufficient so went for more exciting(and lets try maximize　vp's if　i get lucky).

Praetorians died to robot and dealt with warriors, cryptek and even　last wraith but by then 68 vs 35 vp. Wraiths btw scored 12 from secondaries and helped with primaries and engage on all fronts.

2k fec vs khorne. Damn. Seems they really need thirsters. Bloodletters and crushers seems to hit like wet paper.

Don't think i have ever given priority away turn 2 onward but now did that turns 2-4 which was crucial.

22-6 win.

We played a very silly game with very loose 40k/kill teamish rules. The main drive being to have fun.



The voidsman sergeant managed to kill the main hullbreaker three times in a row, once with his las pistol, once with his shotgun, and once in hand to hand. He is a hero.

My last game of 8th edition. Seems fitting that was Space Marines vs. Death Guard since they introduced 8th with Dark Imperium.

I do wish I'd picked up some of those Citadel Hills when they were on sale...

A game of Kill Team with my wife! Models and terrain are all WIP, but it was nice to roll some dice with them.
