<grain of salt, I’m a Ultramarine player, but
MEQ have a lot of overlap tactically>
I never footslog marines. I take a reasonable of
tac squads, and they always have a transport. If it doesn’t have wheels or jets on it, it rides in a box. Or drop pods. Unless it’s job is to sit and camp (
devs, sniper scouts). But I’ve been meched up for years, barring one-off theme lists.
MEQ in the open are just targets. While you might make it across the table, you will arrive late and shot up. And leaving units slow and exposed will let your opponent dictate the engagement. He can shoot up the ones he needs to, and maneuver the correct units to deal with the survivors. Unless you are going full maximum threat overload, where you have so many boots in so many places it’s impossible to deal with them, you need to protect and speed up your assault.
Now I’ll admit to being unfamiliar with the tricks available to you. If you have things that will slingshot you across the table, that can substitute for metal boxes. You still might eat a round of fire, but then it’s time for the blood and the screaming. Or distraction units. Give them something that needs to be dealt with
now to give your troops a turn of grace. The problem is that it can’t be too expensive, and needs to be a legitimate threat. I’d suggest sorcery, as that’s a traditional source of shenanigans, but you are talking Khorne, so that’s out (or should be).
