Anyways, I thought I pledged, but possibly it didn't go through. I assume you get an email when you have officially pledged, correct? I'd hate to do it twice and have it count twice.

You can't pledge twice. If you want to double check though just log in to your kickstarter account and look at your profile (by clicking on your user icon in the top right of the screen). It will list all the projects you're currently backing.

Next stretch goal is Edward, the Black Prince, who led the English to victory over the French at Crecy and Poitiers.

The stretch goal is a mounted version of the Black Prince, the regular version appears in the base game -

New addon up which includes a solo / co-operative mission (random elements to make it replayable) and the monks can also all be used as units in the regular game -

I can't figure out, is there an easy way to know which unit works for which faction? Especially in the small graphics on the main page, I can't see what determines that?

You know, I have no idea. Actually using the models in the actual game hadn't occurred to me. I have so many good rulesets sitting around, crying for table time, I never thought about it.

Most of the unit models appear to be multi faction and you use the coloured rings to identify what faction they are being used for. I did ask for them to provide a list or just a post with basic details but I suspect it was lost in the sea or comments.

It does seem as if the basic troops can be either French or English. The named heroes will obviously be specific to their faction. Not sure how they interact with the holy/unholy factions, though I imagine that would only be relevant in the mass battle mode from the Legendary Battles add-on.

Surely that's going to make painting the regular troops a bit of a hassle.

Yup. And part of what made him notable was that he was a whooping 15-16 years old when he commanded Crecy and won the Siege of Calais and thus earned his nickname.. I wonder why they chose to got with a middle-aged version of him (though admittedly he grew older eventually and remained a pretty successful general).

Presumably for those folks who want to go with period-appropriate colors and regalia. I don't know much about this period, but were English and French "uniforms" (I know that's not really the right term here) very different?

Jeez, and what about the Holy and Unholy folks?!?! What did they wear?!?!

I play...

Sigh.

Who am I kidding? I only paint these days...

There were no such things as uniforms in the Middle Ages. There weren't even countries yet (only feudal domains). Soldiers simply wore whatever they could afford (or their lord could afford for them) and the nobility all wore their own coats of arms. There would have virtually been no difference between soldiers fighting for the English king and soldiers fighting for the French king, no more than there would be a difference between the levies of lord A and those of lord B. Similarly, banners and symbols were also hugely varied.
You can just paint all of the generic troops as generic medieval soldiers and use them for both sides without historical accuracy problems.

The game does come with shield and banner transfer but they are a little too small to see if they are faction icons.

Regarding faction, it looks to me like it's actually shown on their card as a banner in the top left corner. Here's the card of the stretch goal just unlocked (English hero) and the next one (French heavy foot knights):

But it's not present on the smaller images they're showing unlocked goals with, so I don't know if there's an easy way to see all the unit loyalties together:

Maybe some of the basic troops are used for both, but from this it looks like many units are faction specific (which is good, imo!).

My guess is there will be cards for English Heavy Foot Knights and French Heavy Foot Knights, maybe with slightly different stats or abilities, but otherwise the same.

Now that I have said that, I note that it just says "new card" not "new cards" so I may well be wrong.

I do suspect that for the basic "not a knight, and not with a special weapon" type troops both factions will share the models. I suppose you could always get a bunch if you want to paint all the poor infantry buggers in their kingdom's colors, so fixing them to a particular side. I am probably going to do mine as different house hold regiments, with a few units of different types sharing a basic tabard, but that's about it.

The core pledge also includes coloured rings that can be attached to the bases to clearly differentiate which side they're on in this particular game.

The word is we're due an add-on reveal this evening. I believe at 7pm Paris time, so 6pm in the UK and 1pm on the east coast of North America. It's almost certainly going to be the Siege add-on, which along with the dragon was the other big item they had planned. This is going to include a castle, complete with ruined wall sections to swap in as it takes damage. The name of the add-on suggests it'll include siege rules too, but beyond that I'm not sure what else in it. We do know it's more expensive than the dragon add-on, so I'm expecting something in the $70-90 range.

Oh God save my poor wallet. I don't think I will be able to resist getting everything, and my wallet is still recovering from the last kickstarter I backed...

I think this has transcended board game and moved straight into miniatures game. It makes games like Warmachine look a bit... flat.

Holy crap, that siege thing looks AMAZING.

That is what 15mm does so much better than 28mm!

Ha!

And yes, this is just about in 'impossible to resist' territory.

15mm seems like a great scale for miniature wargames - and it is a scale I've definitely missed/ignored - until now!

I was expecting something really impressive from the siege expansion, but this is at least twice as awesome as I thought that it was going to be.

Does anyone remember how tall the old Mighty Fortress was from GW. We used to use it back in the day to play Warhammer Siege and it doesn't seem like it was noticeably bigger than this is.
