I've just noticed that Revell do some 40k box sets...

eg: Revell 00080 Warhammer 40000 Space Marine Heavy Assault Build and Paint Set which is 35Euro or 26.99 on Amazon. It contains a Dreadnaught (multi melta and power fist) and 5x Terminators (3x Storm Bolter + Power Fist, 1x Heavy Flamer + Power Fist, 1x Sergeant w/ Storm Bolter + Power Sword).

They also include some "citadel" paints, glue, paint brush and some "stickers" (I think are transfers) and also a sticker sheet for a banner/standard. I say "citadel" as some amazon reviews say they're rubbish so might not actually be citadel.

On top they also contain some scenery (ammo crates, tubes, etc) and a "battle mat" to display them on.

They look like they could be older designs... as I have some of them from 2nd or 3rd edition, so they're not so detailed.

Looking, there is also a landspeeder for les than 20Euro, a Space Marine Bike + Terminator "Hero" box, and "Ork Raiders".

Has anyone had experience of these and know if they're any good or just completely not worth it? I think I prefer the extra detail of the newer models, but thought it was an interesting quirk and find.

Wow, I had not seen those sets before. That does explain where all them models on ebay are coming from. I keep seeing bits and models being sold NOS but in different colors.
People are buying these cheaper sets, then breaking them down and selling each model close to GWs prices.

Well apparently (look for a geekdad review online) they are coloured plastic... blue for space marines and green for orks. They do this as they don't include green or blue paint in the sets.

I do see a lot of people who buy Dark Imperium and then sell one half for a high price.

But £27 for a dreadnought and 5 terminators sounds tempting given that they're new. That's usually better than ebay prices for poorly painted, hamfisted assembled ones, these days.

Is this the Battle of Vedros stuff - possibly reboxed again?

I think it's related to that. I have seen that mentioned.

I just checked and you can get the same sets on Revell's own website
(Just those 6 kits are available, 3 different ork sets that I didn't really look at, 1 set with 1 SM bike and 1 Termie, 1 set with dread and 5 termies, and 1 set with landspeeder) and each set has some paints, a couple scenery bits and a display stand to put the finished models on)

The termies i've seen actually bear more of a resemblance to the Battle For Macragge versions, which were 4(5?) parts. Be nice to get a hold of some more of those, the 3 I have lying around don't really fit in with the others

Some people find the idea that other people can be happy offensive, and will prefer causing harm to self improvement.

Battle for Macragge didn't have any Terminators. It had one Tactical squad.

They are the old ones, but wow. This is a very nice set. I'm probably gonna give one for Christmas to my little cousin.

So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

These have been out since late last year according to Revell's Facebook page.

For those who are really crazy, you can go on ebay and pay $10 more than you would if you were to buy directly from Revell LMAO

The termies, dread and orks are from the AOBR set (i.e. 5th Ed starter).

Not quite, the Dread and a couple of the orks are from the AOBR set, but the Terminators appear to be the old 90s metal Terminators in plastic, at least the ones in the "Space Marine Heavy Assault" box. The one Termi in the "Space Marine Bike Attack" seems to be one from AOBR, specifically even the one that was given away with one White Dwarf when AOBR came out. So, yeah, seems a bit wierd, especially if (I hope my memory serves me right here) the old metal Terminators are a tad bit smaller than the current plastic ones.

They're not based on the metal terminators. They're the first plastic Terminator box which was really quite goofy and everyone was leaning back slightly (as opposed to all the metals which were leaning forward).

Released with the late 90's version of Space Hulk if I recall.

2nd ed. Space Hulk terminators:

Plastic, poor styling, zero customization. They "might" have twisted at the waist?

I honestly enjoy a lot of those older models, I think these sets are great for a gamer who wants a nostalgic feel to their army... Or who are on a serious budget.

Wonder if GW sold the moulds to Revell. I might have to pick some up!

Amazon link - Not able to be sold to us customers. That sucks. I have a lot of those older metal terms, would like to get some plastics.

Minature market - only sold to us customers.

Weird.

I think it might be because it is UK Amazon. I've bought a Vedros kit or two on US Amazon before, and that same set can be found there. Slightly cheaper in current Pounds on the UK site still, but that is because the pound took a shellacking over the past year and a half.

They don't sell the dread separately, do they? No one wants those ancient terrible terminators, but the dread is serviceable.

My FLGS sells all of those kits, displayed with the Battle for Vedros set. Apparently it is a line meant to be stocked at big stores which normally wouldn't have miniatures, as a gateway into the hobby. The Landspeeder is a pretty good deal and comes with some of the scenery mentioned above. I wouldn't get any of the SM boxes personally, but the Ork ones could be a decent way to start a cheap army.

Well, I think I'm gonna see if I can get the dread/termie set off the revel site directly (if not, then amazon it is)

I just searched for these kits on Revell's website and got "No results". So maybe Amazon is the only way.

Revell and Revell Germany are the same company. If they sold the kits in the US, they'd be on the US site.
