I really like that board (would rather play AoS on it than 40k though) the floating rocks are awesome and really like the ruined buildings that seem overgrown.

Elbows' Eldar Rangers in a recent game.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Having adequate LOS blocking terrain lessens alpha strikes and, when combined with some sort of objective, increases the need for units to move throughout the game. I dislike games where players deploy in static positions and then shoot across a barren board.

Yep, and they couldn't see a damned thing!

This is a sample of the 2nd ed. I've played on. Lots of LOS blocking stuff.

So you genuinely want to just play on tables that benefit your army?

No? But I'd rather avoid table that are built agaisnt my army, as well.

I typically do "roughly mirrored terrain", terrain that is mirrored in such a way that it looks natural.

Or, if I am feeling fancy, I set up the terrain as 100% themed, then have the players roll off to see which edge/corner they will be coming from. Terrain is designed to be relatively balanced across the board, with random starting positions.

Regardless, there is always some sort of theme to the tables I set up. My favorite is "out land" or "edge of city", where have the board is composed of natural mesas and trees, and the other half is dense urban.

You say Fiery Crash! I say Dynamic Entry!

*Increases Game Point Limit by 100*: Tau get two Crisis Suits and a Firewarrior. Imperial Guard get two infantry companies, artillery support, and APCs.

Instead of adapting to the battlefield?
You'll only play on tables that support your playstyle, instead of modifying your playstyle to the table?

Krieg lists are quite inflexbile and I don't have a ton of models to switch lists around, so I can't adapt to tables that are built with the idea that gunlines are the devil.

I prefer battlefields that look "natural" , we tend to try to find historical ones in photo to copy.

If a battlefield makes you at a disadvantage, then you need to look to your list to see how you can manage it.

If your a shooty army and your playing a constrictive field of fire like tunnels or a maze you need to bring units that can counter the inevitable cc rush. So perhaps those super heavies need traded in for some Assassins, Assault Marines, Ogryns etc.

You bring the right tools to the right fight. Some generals are good at siege warfare, some at ambushes, and others at gunlines. If you are only a good general at one thing, perhaps your army needs to be led by superior forces or leaders.

Krieg has no Ogryns, or assault Marines or Assassins, I also don't own these models.

Every time someone complains about a gunline in this game, my first question is what did your board look like?

No surprise when a Guard player doesn't like lots of LOS blocking terrain

"Courage and Honour. I hear you murmur these words in the mist, in their wake I hear your hearts beat harder with false conviction seeking to convince yourselves that a brave death has meaning.
There is no courage to be found here my nephews, no honour to be had. Your souls will join the trillion others in the mist shrieking uselessly to eternity, weeping for the empire you could not save.

To the unfaithful, I bring holy plagues ripe with enlightenment. To the devout, I bring the blessing of immortality through the kiss of sacred rot.
And to you, new-born sons of Gulliman, to you flesh crafted puppets of a failing Imperium I bring the holiest gift of all.... Silence."

Have you tried adapting to the battlefield, as part of the tactical challenge? Or do you just expect to use the same strategy over and over again?

Part of my personal fun with 40K is experimenting with "exactly how different any given list perform on multitude of terrain variations". This is why I never ever play on "fair, symmetrical table" - you can squeeze couple of totaly unique games from two lists and a single terrain setup if it's heavily asymmetrical. Some games will make you play an uphill battle (sometimes in a very literal sense), but in effect it quickly teaches you how to use any bit of terrain to your advantage or play to minimize terrain disadvantage.

Playing always on "no disadvantage" table seems to me like a straight way into the rut and seriously hindering yourself in terms of gaining real tactical prowess...

I like all the stuff, the elevations and the LOS blockers. How do you move larger models like Land Raiders and Titans around on that? Do you find there is enough room?

I can't speak on behalf of Elbows, but on my tables limiting movement lanes of large models is intentional to create bottlenecks or areas of "necessary adaptation" (usually matched by areas of "intended domination") of different kinds of units/armament/warfare. This creates some nicely twisted gameplay with a "built in, small scale narrative" to board/mission.
