Subject: Wanting more advanced rules

After a few games of 8th edition i am missing some of the depth that the core game rules of 7th had. I did think they needed to trim a lot and i appreciate gw making the game a bit more accessible to new players . This being said i wish they would create an expanded more advanced rule set. I am just talking optional advanced rules for those who wish to play that kind of semi campaign game.
Here are some i wish were avalible:
Terrain/cover overhaul with model by model returning to 50% coverage for a "cover", specific to hit/ap/involn modifiers depending on terrain type and way more variation in buyable fortifications for armies like nids, orks, chaos and generally those who dont have them complete with a statline and special rules.
Things like void shields giving involnerable save modifiers, hight advantages giving to hit buffs, barb wire modifying movement, pipelines buffing flamers
Vehicle overhaul with the return of facings like +/-1 saves for front/back armor, return of true line of sight for vehicle weapons and being able to comoletly destroy certain terrain. Also vehicles that dont explode stay, become terrain and scatter on how they flip. Flyers getting buffs frim landing pads like being able to land and receive some kind of buff/nerf on guns/troop deployments
Deployment overhaul with diverse and specific army based deployment options. This would also include literal formations that infantry can arange in similar to how flyer wings worked in dfts with specific small buffs/nerfs to movment and save throws.
Objective overhaul. Things like moving objectives that scatter or capture the flag style grabable objectives or move the mvp or even demonic/native animal grounds that after a certain amount of units die deamons or general foe spawn in and attack random targets. Or relic pick ups to buff your hq.
Ok i think im done. these rules are intended for veteran players who already have core rules and stats memorized with big tables and tons of time.Do you like/dislike any ive thrown out there? Do youbhave any ideas for a more in depth rule set?

I hate the vehicle rules. If you are adding in fire-arcs, armor facings, and whatnot, then add it for everyone.
Otherwise we end up with the problem of an Exocrine firing directly backwards while a Vindicator can't because of some arbitrary mumbo jumbo.

So just play 7th?
Lots of the things you mention can just be done with house rules between you and your opponent tbh.

There plan as stated is to release more advanced rules as they release more and more stuff. So, yeah. I sort of expect chapter approved to be a annual release of that kind of stuff.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Wanting more depth or nuance to the rules (most especially a more DIY approach to units in the army) is what lead to me dabbling in things like Fast and Dirty, No Quarter/No Limits/etc.
Unfortunately I do not believe we will ever really get much from 40k. The core die mechanic is very flat, and it seems a growing number just don't want to roll dice much. If anything the game should be going more simple.

No, I really don't think we want three different cover mechanisms.
How do these even make sense?
It isn't easier to hit things when you're higher up - it actually makes it harder to hit (calculating the correct elevation offset is more complex when shooting up or down) and it makes grazing fire impossible for machine guns.
The pipeline just happens to have promethium in the correct formulation for a flamethrower and this somehow makes them shoot better?

Elevation can give enfilade; that might be what they're thinking of.

7th was not deep, it was a stupid mess. Having Firing arcs and being forced to space your models out to minimise blast casualties is a nuisance, not a benefit.

I think you mean defilade. That would provide cover, not bonuses to hit.
Enfilade requires the enemy to be arranged in a particular way relative to your field of fire. That sometimes involves being elevated but it's certainly not something that happens just because you're elevated.

While it won't benefit you if you're tournament aimed - most of what you mentioned in your OP is completely doable...just add it to the game. Unless you insist on playing strangers on pick-up games or just attend tournaments - make the game whatever you want. GW actually even lists that in the terrain rules (an often overlooked statement where it expressly says "make up your own terrain rules - these are just suggestions".
You're not stuck playing the game any one way.

Come play 30k Horus Heresy, the community is great and focused more on narrative play than competitive and still uses the 7th edition ruleset. The new rulebook is coming out soon as well which will incorporate a lot of FAQ rulings and clarify situations.
I do also play 40k when I'm looking for a simpler ruleset to play but when I want complexity I play 30k. Each ruleset has their place.

No, I meant enfilade. In the strictest sense it means shooting down a line, but it can also mean bypassing cover. In this instance, by shooting from above.

In Cities of Death, models ignore the cover bonus when shooting down at models below them, as one of many rules changes in that style of play.
What you're asking for exists, in some cases. Just look for it.

They have some of that in the free one page not 40k rules. One page rules are actually… pretty well developed. More streamlined than 8th, yet it has more depth. Its not perfect but IMO its better free, and you could fit all of the rules for every faction in your back pocket.

That already happens with the rules as they stand. No modification required.
