Just got the new Chapter Approved book. It lists a bevy of fortifications, but I can't find their point costs. Are they elsewhere, or are these datasheets only for use in narrative or Power Level matched play?

I don't write the rules. My ego just lives and dies by them one model at a time.

I think i believe there were point costs for fortification in imperium index 1 of all things

Imperium 2 - imperium 1 has a singular fortification in the dark angel section.

They are in chapter approved as part of the narative play section so pts are unimportant

Disagree with that. If CA is going to add the datasheets it should have provided the costs.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Eh, points are looking like they're getting obsoleted in favor of PL or just unbounded play.

Maybe for casual play, but matched play doesn't generally permit weird things like fortifications anyway. 40k isn't AoS. The least popular 40k army outsells the entirety of AoS, if GW tried to remove points from 40k it would kill the game.

Points aren't going anywhere.

From what I've read, I believe CA's datasheets are supposed to be used as scenery, whereas Index Imperium 2 has rules and points for including in your army. Not having CA yet I don't know if this is accurate.

I've no idea where you got that from - any matched play game can include fortifications. This is why the fortification network detachment exists, so that you can include fortifications in your army.

I mean de facto, not necessarily de jure.

Say that then. RAW they're allowed. You do usually espouse RAW At All Costs.

I meant GW view pts as not important for narrative play which they see as unbound

I agree it was a missed opportunity to fix fortifications which are almost unplayable in matched play.

Most likely, most of the datasheets for the terrain comes in the kit's box when your purchase them, along with point values and such.

How are they de facto not permitted in match play? It's not like they're typically banned in tournaments or casual play.

Not used, sure - basically no-one uses them.

Totally permitted though.

Look up the difference between de facto and de jure.

De jure, no-one can fire assault weapons after advancing. De facto, no-one plays it that way.

Likewise, de jure you can use fortifications, but de facto no-one ever uses them in matched play anyway, making this a non issue.

No one using them has nothing to with them not being permitted.

Yes to de facto not used.
No to de facto not permitted.

Big difference.

Are there keywords in the imperial fortifications that would permit/prohibit a xenos version ?
Lets say you model a fantastic Tau Bunker or have an Eldar Sanctuary or a Genestealer bloated birthing sac (bastion) or that chaso wanted to use ANY of the imperial counterparts?

Is any of that available in Matched Play with BattleForged armies?

thanks

Most of them are faction "unaligned". See Index Imperium 2.

Are these fortifictions in Index Imperium 2? Are there point costs in there for them? I don't own it, because I don't own any Imperial armies.

Yes and yes. All of the imperial-type fortifications (other than fortress of redemption which is in II1) are in II2.
