So, I recently found out that the Ork Chinork Warcopter now costs a little more than a truck; however, the model itself is priced at like 87 dollars. I want at least two of these things, maybe more given what they cost now in points.

I want to make a conversion, but I have never converted vehicles. Only fantasy to 40k conversions. I was thinking about converting a Drakhari Raider into the warcopter.

Does anyone have any good suggestions on where I should start? I want at least 50% of the model to be Games Workshop.

Edit: Actually, I want 3 for the air wing detachment.

I guess this Zeppelin is out then?

I love that thing, but imho it only makes sense as kopta replacements since it's clearly not supersonic. I was contemplating a Grot Balloon Brigade... a couple zeppelins as chinorks and some weather-balloon based deffkoptas with bomb-laden grotz hanging by their ankles...

That Zeppelin idea sounds super fun.

Grab a dark eldar raider and some plasticard.
Could keep it as a running theme that they fight DE alot so naturally loot their vehicles.

If you have money and insanity though, buy some new dwarf airships and make ork pirates lol.

It could be done with a raider. You would obviously need a fair amount of plasticard, though. You could use a trukk, I suppose.
The zeppelins are pretty cool conversions, I've been wanting to do one for a while now.

Can you get the plasticard from Michaels or Home Depot? I have not used it before. And can you cut it with a modeling knife?

My understanding is that some of the signs are made of styrene -- I've been using a for-sale sign I got at the Dollar General, but recently picked up a thicker "No Parking" sign from HD that I haven't tried to use yet. The thinner stuff cuts just fine with a hobby knife, I expect the thicker stuff will too though it may be more of a "score and snap" proposition.

Hi i would suggest you to get some of the Cheaper killakoptaz from the Black reach box,(i got 10 of theese and dont need so many since they are so expensive in 8th ) some extra bits from ork Vehicles if you got something like that grab a plastik card from ebay and put it all thougehter. I imagine one killakopta in the front then comes a platform to transport the boyz an in the rear is another killakopta with the second pilot who is firing the weapons or something like that...
You can will know what i mean when you See a picture from the "chinook" heavy transport helicopter from the US armed forces

I Hope my ideas can help you a bit to get a good construction
I will build one or two myself like
