Hi all,

I've had a clever idea to make some unique servitors from Goliath Gangers. They fit the fluff, look suitably industrial and the arms are separate. Are they about the same size and do you lot think it would work?

I was thinking Kataphron standard grav guns and stuff where the regular arms go. The shoulders look pretty flat so I reckon it'd be fairly easy.

Any thoughts?

So, you basicly want to make alternate non track kataphrons?

Exactly that. Some of the background says Kataphrons are made with tracks or out of big vat-grown dudes. Like Goliaths.

The kataphrons uses heavy weaponry, and if they dont have tracks they moust likely would have been given oversized metal legs.

maybe something like this

however if cash is of no consern you have these 30k style versions here

I like your thinking, but my Skitarii army is a little more human. So the big metal legs would look a little out of place to me.

http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Praetorian_Servitors This is the source I'm going for. And Goliath are described as vat-grown too. So some big humans with robot arms holding guns is my thought.

Also that second like is a bit too much for me to spend. Cool looking models though.

convert some bullgryns then.
I dont own any of them but from som img on the net it seems they are approx 1 ogryn head above a heroc human when it comes to size.

The worst thing imo you could do is make your kata`s too small.
they are ment to be big no matter how you make them.

They look alright, which is why I was thinking the new Necromunda Goliath models. They seem to be about the same size as a Bullgryn too. Also the Necromunda models would be cheaper for what I'm planning. Would the guns fit though?

That probably won't work then, seeing as Kataphrons look pretty big compared to regular Skitarii. A Space Marine sized model on a 60mm base would look weird too.

I think Ogres or Ogryn are the way to go.

Ogres are an interesting thought. Probably cheap enough that I could make a few and they look like vat-grown brutes. I'll look into it. Thanks!

Years ago I did a macro servitor from an Ogre, assault cannon arms, LR targeting thing for a head, Tau landing gear for legs and wires to taste. Not bad if I do say so myself.

It helps that they have such stiff poses, very zombie/Frankenstein like.

Oh nice! Do you have any pictures?

So far Ogres seem like the best bet for Kataphrons. Cut the arms off and attach some big guns.

Which kind.of Ogres BTW? I've found Ironguts and stuff on the GW site.

I hope your green stuffing is alright. Converted ogres often end up looking like the model was covered in glue and dropped in a bits box. I'd recommend using a tentacle roller to make some cabling at the very least.

Not that great at green stuff work, and I'd like to have something that doesn't look how you've described.

I'd like to do some converting and make something unique, but not covered in glue unique.

Is there anything that looks AdMech enough to stick guns on?

I wasn't trying to suggest not using ogres, just to be mindful of the end result. Making cables from green stuff and a tentacle roller is very easy, literally anyone could make them. Couple of cables connecting the gun to a power pack will look ten times better than just a gun glued onto where the arm should be.

The power pack and cable idea is great, I'll take that suggestion.

But after looking at the Ogres they don't have the right style for what I'm going for. The armour is too ramshackle for an organised Imperial army and I don't think I'd be able to GS well enough to change that.

Is there anything Ogre like but a little more repeatable?

Ogryns. All the bulk of ogres with added 40k flair.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

I think you're onto something there. A more standard looking Ogre is exactly what I wanted.

A set of those, some Admech guns and the GS tentacle roller for cabling.

The bullgryns with respirators and the arm guns are most of the way there already

Those arms guns look good, bet I could stick a gravgun nozzle on the front as well.

The special character Ogryn arnour is the same pattern as all Imperial armour too.

That's definitely the way to go.
