Finished Brutal Kunnin. One of the best reads I had from BL. Sadly, not the entire book was from the orkish perspective (about maybe 50%?) but even other parts were interesting and good written. I definitely recommend it for any wh40k fan, and for greenskins fans it is a must.

BL NEWS

https://www.warhammer-community.com/2020/09/30/festive-treats-from-black-library/

So the advent bundle of art is back, I really wish GW made this general sale and not some 1K limited release with an insanely high price tag :(

Confirmation that the next novella release is 5 books not 10 and in hardback. 3 40K, 1 AoS and 1 Necromunda. Feels a bit of a let down compared to the previous releases, not sure if its Corona or if its a new approach to charging the same but giving us half as much but in hardback. Still be nice to get (even if I'll only be getting ebook versions).

Lone Wolves is getting a colour and hardback reprint - Spacewolves vs Tyranids

And there's a "wintery surprise hint" at the end.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
And in more BL related talk I recently picked up The Eldar omnibus edition and started reading. Just finished "Path of the Warrior" by by Gav Thorpe.

It's a curious read and isn't what I'd recommend to someone who isn't a lore/eldar fan already nor someone who isn't familiar with GW in general. It's got a story to it, but the characters don't really draw you in. The lead is hard to connect with and the support often drift in and out at only choice moments and sort of blur a bit one to the next.

The story reads more like an author used to writing codex style entries being made to write more rather than an experienced story teller. This can make it feel a bit clunky.

At the same time if you've an interest in Eldar lore and want to delve a bit deeper its a treasure trove of information. The way its displayed also gives you some really neat insights into Eldar society, social roles, mental and physical challenges and the darker side of their species and the challenges they have to survive.
On that score it wins. It's just not a gripping story getting you there sadly.

There are better, but there are worse. It's not unreadable it just doesn't grab you with story and characters so much as with worldbuilding, lore and seeing how some events and situations transpire in more depth than a codex.

Lone Wolves is the second (Deff Skwardron rulez!) best BL comic book IMO.

I really dislike what they're doing with the next set of Novella's. The point of them was to be a cheap £3 collectable series, having the next set be hardback only seems to go against that idea if it has a big price increase, and they obviously won't fit on the shelf together as well.

I really liked the idea of the novellas; they were more meaty than a short story and let you really get into things; but weren't the full size and price of a novel. Now it seems that BL is sort of pushing them closer to being a novel.

I don't mind the hardback, its the reduction in the number and the likely price increase. We'll have to see how things settle - hopefully the ebook versions won't go up in price.

The only other hardback novella I can remember releasing recently has been "Ciaphas Cain: Old Soldiers Never Die", and that's priced at £10. From what I can tell the original book was a limited edition release available only at a weekender event, so I hope that's the reason for the high price rather than being indicative of hardback novella pricing, because if the new ones are that much then it's just absurd and entirely defeats the point of them.

* It'll be interesting to see who will do what book. It would be neat if he was the one to pen the last novel in the entire series, so it could start and end with him. But also really curious to see what Chris Wraight will write.

I think it should end with Loken saying "I was there when the emperor killed Horus". It would be the perfect ending. But the GW and BL that wrote Horus Rising is long gone. It will probley end with crawl and primaries marines saving the day. :(

The Cain book also had a number of really nice art pages in it. Something I doubt we will get in this series. I will stick with inferno for shorts.

Nearly finished Bloodlines by Chris Wraight (Warhamemr Crime) and really impressed.

Very light 40k overlay on a very decent cyberpunk novel.

Some of the art is decent enough and overall it adheres to the visuals of the setting, but this may just be me, the 2000AD / black and white Warhammer Monthly comics reader, talking.

Spoilered for size.

But again, so far it's just okay and pretty basic.

Looks ok. I haven't read a comic in decades and I think a large portion of BL stuff these days is low-calibre writing but I quite like the panels shown above. The expositional nature of the text isn't ideal, but I'm missing context here so I can't judge too harshly. He used the phrase "A Heretic dies" and we get some decent pics. BL books are only rarely engaging or otherwise well written so I can't really say this comic is too egregious, relatively speaking.

Anyone read Lords of Silence?
It’s the audio of the month so I might grab it. It’s equal to another month of Audible really so spades that for something else (though I still have two built up)
