We must be approaching the point now where there are enough uncollected HH stories that are not Siege related, that we're bound to see another collection - wonder if they will "go back" and make a "book 55" or do something different.

(Obviously we'll get at least one, probably more, SoT collections at some point, but a lot of these stories wouldn't really fit into them)

Gotrek shorts are decent - the Neverspike is perhaps a bit lackluster because its more of a paired intro to the second audio novel. The Novella is great fun. I do think GW could even the odds though 9 stories for 40K and 3 for AoS is a bit unfair (yes yes I know 30K isn't 40K but its the same darn sci-fi setting stuff). Personally I'd have done 3 30K 3 40K 3 AoS 1 Bloodbowl; 1 Necromunda and 1 Warcry.

I found the Gotrek Stories ok - Ghoulslayer I thought was very weak with only the FEC characters raising any interest.
I thought the Bone Desert was excellent - and disapointed that Robbie MacNiven has not written any more as thought it was more lively and more interesting relationship with Gotrek and Malaneth.

Its the same with the Neferata novels for me - they are "ok" and David Annandale kinda gets her right but not completely - there is a lack of enjoyment in her rule and also her favourites are too easily discarded for me - she uses them as pawns yes but tends to pretend more that she doesn't.

Bone Desert certainly works and I like that Robbie wasn't going the whole "drow" angle with the DoK which seems to be what the Blood Coven trio of short story authors have gone for. It's not bad, but Drow are very childishly evil in many ways and it can come across a really hard to believe society when one gender is not just oppressing the other but very active in torturing them and slitting their throats every 5 seconds for blood (at some point you realise that males would just not hang around for that and would be escaping every moment they could).

Audible Sale on this week.
£3 buys.

There’s around 15-20 GW in there.

On that note. How are the new Gotrek books? As they are both in there..
As good as the old ones. Or something very different?

The Realmslayer are not books, they are audio dramas. So they are slightly different from the books in how they are constructed. They are fun and they are Gotreks introduction into the Mortal Realms so I'd say if you've any interest in him have a listen! I still think that the best so far is the Bone Desert novella; but his Ghoulslayer book (which isn't the starting point, but is his first full book) is great fun

Just got word that my Inferno! reprints would have been sent to my GW store for collection this week, but due to how things are right now, I've been given the choice to have them refunded, shipped to my home address or have them hold onto it until the store opens again sometime in January.

Option two it is then.

I do have Bone Desert as I’ve got all the first series ones.
And turns out I’ve got Realmslayer too, it was in the Humble Audio.
So I shall grab Ghoul, then I’ve got it all?

I read all the old stuff aside from the (two?) end times era ones.
I guess I won’t bother with them now, if Realm shows him coming out this side, that’ll do?

Right now for Gotrek in AoS there's:
Books:
Ghoulslayer
The Bone Desert (Novella series 1)

Audio books:
Realmslayer
Realmslayer: Blood of the Old World
Realmslayer: Heirs of Grimnir [I don't think he features in this one, but it follows on the tale of the Fyreslayers he encounters)

Short stories:
Gotrek: One, Untended
The Neverspike (prequel to Ghoulslayer - in fact pretty much mandatory reading for the setup to Ghoulslayer)
Death on the Road to Svardheim

I'm just curious what they'll do about issue 46, the last one of that inferno run which wasn't in the final bundle.

Either on its own or perhaps paired with another classic reprint

The final run will probably be eleven instead of ten, I don't really see them pairing it with something else, though it would be interesting if they also did a reprint run of Warhammer Monthly at some point in the future, beats the stuff put out by BOOM!, Titan and Marvel.

I thought they'd do a final run of 11 but they haven't. This latest one is issues 36-45

I've not read it, but Josh Reynolds is a very good writer and well worth a read.

Yeah I’ve got a few things by him but not got round to them yet.
I suppose for that price as long as it isn’t a known bad writer or newbie. Then it’s no risk..

No word of the Bequin books however.

And no, I don't think we need a new one just yet, this one has been trundling along nicely since 2018, with the thread title updated whenever needed, as the usual suspects thankfully don't read the novels and instead mainly stick to the other topics for their gakposting.

edit.

It's weird that they're all of the sudden giving the Ravenor trilogy the limited re-release. I'd much rather see them re-release it in the same format as they did with the Eisenhorn books: in nice paperback format with new cover art.

I do like that about this thread. It always is what it says on the tin.
No diverging and bickering.

Im now about to start the Magos part of Magos.
So I’ll be itching for that Bequin book soon..

And...on what day?

There are quite a few Saturdays left in January!

Seeing as how I'd prefer to stare into an empty fish tank for 2 hours than read any more low quality BP sub-genre, I wouldn't mind at all if you spoil the secret (spoiler tags obviously).

The novel is not bad by any means-as said it is a nice read for a bolter-porn.
Spoiler:
Word Bearers want to attack an Ecclesiarchy's world and there were some Imperial Fist/Raven Guard/White Scars sent by the Primarch to help defend it. The secret is that there is a Dreadnought with a Word Bearer from the times of HH who fought on Calth etc. but saw the ''truth'' about it all and returned to the one and only God-Emperor. He was captured by the Ultras, and tried to kill himself for his sins thus ending in a dreadnought. The real secret is that Roboute new about him, and sent him there as a penance. And it was this WB who actually helped Ecclesiarchy to start a real cult, knowing all about Lectitio etc. holy texts.
