Other than The Horus Heresy, I had to switch over to Kindle on practical grounds - if I hadn't I'd have had to find enough bookshelf space for (checks list) 430 books.

I already have (list again) 2147 real books.

Yeah, one of the upsides. I like the tactile nature of books a lot too, and the non-issue with batteries, and the fact that you own the thing and not just a license, etc. etc. etc. But there are benefits, and increasing font size is one of them. Some of them (not sure about Kindles) can also link to your local public library also and you can borrow books that way.

This. I decorate with books. I have an absurd amount of books. My poor Nook had a 1k+ library of books accumulated on it. My paperwhite has a significantly smaller amount of books but I mostly use it for trashy kindle unlimited series.

I have 805 Kindle books in total, and still using what is claimed to be the best one out there, the Kindle Voyage. 8 years old, replaced the battery because a 'full' charge of 90-2 % wasn't good enough for me.

I suppose the answer is no, since I can't find it, but any whispers or hints of when Dan Abnett's Pandemonium will be coming out?

Huh.. https://www.warhammer-community.com/en-gb/articles/m9RMooUs/interceptor-city-dan-abnett-returns-to-the-war-torn-skies-of-warhammer-40000/

Ignoring the usual complaints about it being super-limited.. did not ever in my lifetime expect to see this novel happening.

Very surprised to see another Dan Abnett Aeronautica-themed novel, and its just great to have more of that type of story in general.

That's a pretty cool limited edition too.

I'm sure I remember him mentioning wanting to do a sequel to Double Eagle in old interviews, but that he had far too much other stuff on his plate. I'm guessing this is a chance to do something 'fun' after that Siege ending.

Anything is more fun after that slog of a read. Bloody hell! We used to joke Dan couldn't write a proper ending and would always rush it, the trilogy of final Siege books really drew it out to a tedious length.

Here's hoping Pandaemonium is next though.

Well he couldn't write a damn ending for Loken......I'm still pissed about it. And yes, after all that slog the pay off was....mediocre.

If Interceptor City, then maybe Titanicus 2?

Awww yiss, Double Eagle is still a favourite and the Sabbat Worlds books are about all a grumpy old git who doesn't care for the new setting has to look forward to, so I'm very excited by this. I might even make an inevitably futile attempt at the FOMO edition.

Annotated 'Malleus' finally, three years after 'Xenos'! Five illustrations seems a little on the low side, though.

Is the tau book out yet?

i'm taking bets on whether the tau get to actually win in a book about them, or if the raptor marine antagonist actually wins anyway or 'doesn't lose'. Extra marine propaganda points if he survives the story because marines have to have plot armour even when they're not the protagonist.

IMO if GW gave the protagonism winning powers of marines to tau and eldar, their books would be a lot more popular.

Instead we get books that spend a lot of time telling how crap they are and how they lose a lot and are sold it as 'faction fiction!'

Didn't the Tau win in the fire warrior novel that was based on the game?

Did not expect this one to drop, but it'll go nicely with the rest of the collection, if I can get a copy.

Assuming that the plot of the book follows that of the game, the Tau will 'win' insofar as the protagonist survives and their ship gets away (although crippled), but their invasion force is wiped out and they lose their Ethereal in the process, so their original mission is a total failure.

With how well Space Marine 2 has done, maybe a Fire Warrior 2 in the future?

It would be great to see. Heck, a game where you play as an eldar traveling the aspects of the path of the warrior would be fantastic, each time you're on a different aspect you have completely different fighting styles and your character equips weapon variants from the shrine. The story could uniquely follow the character for centuries, each time they're appearing at a different point in the scheme of the farseer to enact a precise attack to generate the needed outcome.

There are some amazing storytelling opportunities available. But my cynicism tells me that GW have hitched their wagon to marines being the 40k protagonists and won't do anything to dilute that. You see if whenever marines show up in their fiction when they aren't the protagonists. They basically get protagonism powers and take over the story, never being allowed to look bad or failing.

It's like black library is hollywood and space marines are A listers who have crazy riders that mean they can never look lame, lose a fight or appear as a pointless side character. They must always be the best everytime they show up regardless of the context.

If you want to know how to get people to read books that aren't about marines or the imperium - write your tau and eldar stories like the character has space marine protagonism protection and see the popularity soar... people like cool characters that win, not long winded emo stories of how much they suck.

GOTREK is back! With a new book Verminslayer!!

This might mean that we get to see another old skaven friend of his!
(though I'm noting a distinct lack of grumpy aelf on the front cover still...)

I mean far as we know only 4 characters survived.
Gotrek, Thanquol, technically possibly Ulrika is alive somewhere in Nagash** and Felix is heavily hinted at being a Stormcast. Though the latter is only a possible hint.

Or at least as some memory of one of the dead from the Old World. Though its unlikely he'd ever bring her out unless Gotrek was actually a threat to him in a big way.

GaroRobe wrote:I mean, we do know what happened to grumpy aelf a few books ago…

Spoiler:
Technically they never spell it out. It's a cliffhanger end where its presumed she's killed. Even if she's killed she's got three avenues to return. Sigmar as a Stormcast; Morathi* or Nagash.

*From what I recall most of the Khinerai are made from souls from Slaanesh's belly, but I think I recall reading somewhere that she's also doing some fresh syphoning too. Though I might be miss remembering this one

Damocles is talking about WFB in general.

Teclis, Tyrion, Allarielle, Nagash, Archaon, Gotrek, Thanquol, the white dwarf, all the daemon characters (a bit of a cheat because they can't really die), Kroak (has mazdamundi survived?), Kroq Gar, Morathi, Malekith, Nagash, mannfred von Carstein.

I'm sure I've missed someone. GW's business model is built around the narrative equivalent of trying to have your cake and eat it too.

EDIT: Balthasar Gelt apparently, Nerferata, arkhan the black, Ushoran, Eltharion (in spirit form), Drycha, Sigvald, ikit klaw,

Tobe honest the only problem I have with it all is that AoS is supposed to be the 4rd age in the setting - after the world blew up and after the AoS world. By that point there should be nothing left not even a memory of the Old World and most of the characters that weren't Demons or Slaan would be bonkers old by the time AoS hits.

I do agree a good chunk of the setup is a bit -- daft

They didn't trust that their new product could stand on its own without a massive dose of WFB nostalgia holding it together.

I would agree with them. If they stripped it all out it would just be Planescape fantasy battles.

The overreliance on soul mcguffins in AoS means that they can effectively resurrect anyone however they want. It's a comic narrative's wet dream.

Ah, now that Malleus is up for pre-order, it's fifteen illustrations that it includes. That's more like it!
