That's a lot of Zaks! What would they fight against, eventually?

Dirty Federation types, of course!

I'm not sure I'll ever find someone else to play this game with - which is a common lament for me - so I'll eventually probably buy up a bunch of opposition forces and 'convince' family and friends to give it a whirl.

If nothing else, a good hobby project and I do love me some giant robots.

Plus, I've started watching the original 0079 series, so I've got that to look forward to, as well as *some* of the other stuff too, but opinions vary widely on what is and is not worth watching!

OK, just checking - I was wondering if your intent was hot Zak on Zak action.

It might come to that in the end!

Do you have any ideas on where to get 10mm infantry that would be good stand-ins for Feds and Zeon?

Why not use 1/144?

Pegasus makes many.

Well, 1/144 is just about 10mm (maybe closer to 12mm, but for infantry, it will be close enough!), but sure, yeah, 1/144 stuff might work too.

Preferably unpainted...and cheap!

Well, all the models you are buying are in 1/144 scale. So they are a perfect fit.

Well, I've had more luck with 10mm stuff than 1/144 stuff, in terms of infantry.

I haven't seen any 1/144 infantry that I like yet, so the search goes on!

Ohhh, didn't see the update until now. That's awesone, Macrossmartin! Thank you very much for posting it.

Also, I got this in the mail:

Awesome.

There is only one place I know where you could have got those. Off eBay, from a guy in Japan called Hiro.

Dropzone Commander has some infantry that *might* work.

I'm still leaning towards the stuff I linked to earlier here (I think) though.

For that scale I'd go for some of the "not Epic" options, maybe some novan infantry of some kind from Vanguard Miniatures.

For 1/144 I'll use Heavy Gear infantry, as I already have a sizable amount of those.

Hmmm...

Got a link to pics of said HG infantry?

You can google Heavy Gear Infantry, and see for yourself - several flavors. They are spendy AF. The Pod makes GW look cheap.

To be fair, the GREL infantry really does look like Sci-Fi power-armored infantry - they are pretty nice for what they are. Just ridiculously expensive for 12mm infantry compared to anybody else.

1 x Zaku II Ortega's Custom (Origin version) - I mean, that Giant Axe - no way am I not getting that!

Dozle Zabi had a custom Zaku II in the Mobile Suit Variations line of kits, and it too had an XBOX huge axe. MSV was a model kit line that came out after Gundam first aired that added "official" MS designs that filled out the MS ranks of both sides. All the designs have since migrated into the wider canon in one form or another, and the kits get re-designed and updated every few years, so you might be able to find a Dozle Zabi custom in 1/144. Y'know... if you wanted two giant axe wielding MS in your formation.

Emperor's Eagles (undergoing Chapter reorganization)
Caledonian 95th (undergoing regimental reorganization)
Thousands Sons (undergoing Warband re--- wait, are any of my 40K armies playable?)

About to pick up the following:

2 x Ground War Zaku sets (for those Zaku I's and those sweet, sweet 1/144 tanks!)
1 x Char's Zaku II (Origin version) Love the Origin versions of Zeon stuff!
1 x Zaku II Ortega's Custom (Origin version) - I mean, that Giant Axe - no way am I not getting that!
2 x Zaku II Black Tri-Stars (Origin version) - aka. Ortega Delivery System!

Tri-Stars are supposed to be 3x. Also, iconic look is the Dom.

OTOH, Char's iconic MS/MA is the Neue Ziel, and the Sazabi... tho Neue Ziel is tough to put on the tabletop in 1/144 scale. Especially if you want the Dendrobium as its counter.

Well, Char didn't pilot the Neue Ziel, Gato did. You mean the Zeong?

Eh, Char's been depicted piloting everything at one time or another. At this point, the only ting that matters is that its red.

As to the Tri-Stars, well, before the Dom existed they used Zakus ^^ (Alpharius's configuration would be perfect for around Operation British), and they've been very prominently shown piloting both Zaku Is and IIs in the Origin OVAs, so...

Also, Ortega is one of the Tri-Stars (Gaia, Ortega and Mash), Alph's got the three.

Yeah, red ... like the AMA-002S (Neue Ziel II):

But yeah, he pilots everything. I'm just a sucker for the big suits and MAs.

Note: those MA are 1/144 scale.

For some reason, his "red" always gets pink in minis ^^.

EDIT: ...yeah, they usually are that big. IIRC, the 1/144 Dendrobium is about a meter long.

Whew!

That's what I was thinking too - glad to see I got it right!

I'm a Gundam rookie though, so it wouldn't surprise me if I messed something up...

After the 0079 series, what should I watch next?

Probably 8th MS Team or War in the Pocket. In either order.

I think the MS designs in War in the Pocket are some of the best ever in Gundam.

I'll out those in on the top of the list - they do seem to get the most recommendations.

I also added one of these to my first order:

just because!

Well, as cool as that guy is, its not UC like the other guys are.

Gundam in recent years has spawned many different universes that have nothing in common with each other. Its like having a show with characters and robots, then having another show with other characters and similar looking robots, calling both the same thing, but they don't have anything to do with each other. The Zaku kits you got earlier are from the UC timeline, which dominates Gundam. That Zaku kit is actually a build series kit that takes place in a universe where kids build their own Gundam kits to compete with one another. Its a cool Zaku, if not overpowering, but it didn't appear in the one year war.

Yes, I know!

I got it, as noted, 'just because'!

I imagine I'll be mostly playing in the UC timeline anyway.

Most of its weapons have rules in the PDF though, so you could build it as the Warrant Officer Alp H. Aruis - Zaku III Custom. Use it in the Grypes Conflict rules as an Axis Zeon or Titans suit that was a Test Bed.
