Not a big lore guy here, but I assume there is a lore reason why there are no Primaris Techmarines? They have Primaris everything else but no Techmarines. From what I gather, Techmarines are normal Space Marines sent to get training at Mars for 30 years, but is it just a time thing where Primaris are so new to the Imperium that they haven't yet made it to Techmarine status?

Other than being painted red, there's no real markings (minus the monocle looking thing) that seem to show it's a Techmarine from what I can tell. There are no additional cybernetics. Just looks like a regular Primaris Marine painted red. I'm a little concerned that if there are Primaris Techmarines, like this one, why no rules?

Ehmm... have you seen his Mars Shoulderpad in the 360º rotative image? He is a Techmarine. Why no rules? No model=No rules. Wait for a 30€ Techmarine model.

I didn't look at the 360 model, my bad. I can agree with the no model thing. Just seemed odd they made models for Apothecary, Lib, Chap, Lt, Capt, but no Techmarine. Didn't know if there was some weird lore thing. I mean, all they'd need to do is make him bigger with less options and boom

The techmarines are not allowed to drink Cawl's super Primaris potion because the techmarine frat house on mars would keep Cawl up all night with their crazy parties.

This seemed an obvious gap to me during the release, Hoodwink - maybe no-one had a design concept for a Primaris Techmarine they liked?

I don't recall anything being mentioned in the Space Marine Codex, but I may have missed something.

There is no lore reason. The Primaris Marines have been openly around for over hundred years (and obviously in secret for much longer.) It is just that GW has not made the model yet. A lot of people have converted their own 'Primaris Techmarines' which just use normal TM rules. In my books any marine which has at least two wounds and attacks can be 'Primaris' background wise.

Primaris Techmarines are hooked up to an arcane device on Mars much like an Astropathic Choir. Their centuries of knowledge and mechanic ability is sucked out them, killing them in a matter of days, though some have survived weeks, such is the strength of a Primaris Marine. Regular broken Techmarines cannot withstand the device long enough to provide meaningful power. Though the name of this device has been lost to time it's function is well known. It generates a machine spirit so powerful it can even breach the Great Rift, and encompasses all of known space, the purpose of which is to prevent Space Marines of all generations from getting in the wrong transport.

We also are lacking generic lieutenants outside of the starter boxes. I suspect we'll have a wave 2 of primaris at some point to fill the gaps.

If I had to take a stab, I'd say it's likely due to having only 2 "Primaris" vehicles right now. Maybe Geedubs is waiting for the later release of more Primaris vehicles to substantiate having one.

I'd guess they had a limited quota of character boxes they were allowed to make, and Captain, Librarian, Chaplain, and Apothecary were considered more important.

No doubt they have a primaris tech marine in the works, but are waiting on a primaris angels of death style supplement to release them. This is probably also where we will get heavy weapon aggressors (another no brainer), A flyer, an additional vehicle or two, some primaris only relics and stratagems, and maybe a surprise or two like primaris terminators, and/or bikes.

It does seem like an oversight, doesn't it?

No worries. Primaris kit + BitzBox = Beautiful, unique Techmarine nobody else has.

Playing around with the new kit, the legs are bigger and the chest is like 1mm wider (very annoying) but heads, arms and shoulder pads are pretty much interchangeable. A little drilling, a little filling, add a wrench here, a servo-arm there...viola.

Would it really matter if there was one? It's almost guaranteed that he wouldn't have access to the relics you'd want him to (primarchs wrath) and would essentially be a few more points for 1 additional wound.

Something I just realized while thinking about which codex to buy (probably eldar, for this very reason). The lack of certain Primaris dudes and SM equivalents in the line must mean that yes, later on we shall see some new Primaris releases. But they're going to have to make them a codex, otherwise how else are we going to get proper rules for them? Chaos subfactions are getting codices, so why would GW not do the same for vanilla marines?

I love me some marines, but if there is a possibility of a Primaris codex, I'll wait for that. In the mean time I have DG and Eldar to keep me occupied!

I imagine Primaris Techies are probably gonna pretty bog standard with not a lot of options. It's a safe bet they're just gonna be good for fixing stuff and maybe okayish in melee. Would be cool if they did have a C Beam though!

Edit:. Another late night brainstorm. What if Cawl realized Techmarines need to keep up to the stuff they're fixing and gives his guys big gnarly bikes? Techmarine on a bike plus a 3 man biker unit of some kind, coupled with some other support options to fill out a codex would make a great release.

They can always release new units with rules in the box. We might see something this year, you never know. I don’t think we see a new codex any time soon. A C beam would be sweet for sure.

Exactly. I could see some new units released after all the rest of the codices drop. A more viable transport for Primaris Marines would really help.

With rules in the box, and online (like they did before the codex dropped) I think we are a lot more likely to see loose releases these days.

Most of the primaris character are what, 10-15 points more then the normal version? 13 seems to be a common number. Should he get a discount/pay more then that? Coming base with a 2+ save means he’s getting a little more milage out of the extra wound then other characters, so I might round up to 15. But then, I like nice round numbers.

As for gear, the basic tech has pretty open access to the armory. I suspect when GW releases one the options will get reduced to what the kit can make. Which irritates me, but is the world we live in. I suspect we will get either the servo arm, or the harness, not both, and no c-beamer. For the rest of the gear I’d guess bolter or bolt pistol, and the either an axe or hammer.

But in an ideal world, he’d get the same options as the basic tech.

So I figure he'd be the same as a normal Techmarine, with +1 wound and +1 attack.

Just like the Librarian. For probably a few more points (well, almost certainly).

I made my own techie out of a tac marine and a power scourge, looked kinda like Doc Oc.

At 45 bucks a pop I'll likely be making my own Primaris techie when those finally arrive too!

Probably, but then why have him? What edition did Techmarines lose the ability to perform battlefield repairs to vehicles? (Sorry, getting back into it after a hella long Warp Storm)
