I doubt it.

That’s the subscribe incentive showing you to get started.
The other magazines they do on the website you see a week or two ahead I think. On the Hachette website.

Conquest website itself I’m not sure how often that’ll be updated.
If the fortnightly videos are going to be hosted on there then you’d get insight from those.
Then of course it’ll depend if subscribers get their 4 at the start of that months run, or when the last issue in the set of four comes out.

Has anyone who signed up for the trial copy re subscribed? Just wonder how you let them know you were on the original subscription so to get the three free issues?

They have emailed me twice within the last few days, first to tell me that the magazine is launching so I will receive my free magazines and then after a few days a second email detailing how to enter payment details.

You can call them on the number in the email.

But you can’t link it until the system is ready on the 29th.

We hope that you’ll get sent delivery one anyway on time as it’s free either way. But you might need to get the details sorted before they send.

You can go create your account now on the site. Just sort on the website or call them on 29th to link your subscriber number to it

For the books they usually use a plain cardboard box.

Ah thanks for that - been trying to link the subscriber number they sent me in that email to my account so I can update payment details but it kept telling me they didn't match.

My DPD delivery is due this morning. Looking forward to seeing if the content of the magazine, and if it's worth a read, or I'll be just getting it for the models going forward.

An update/review post would be much appreciated once you have the magazine in hand

If its similar to BGIME then I would expect the magazine to improve as it goes on, initially the painting guides were very basic as it was aimed at complete beginners (who only had three paints!) but the guides in BGIME got gradually more advanced as the magazine progressed, that also had scenery making articles that also got increasingly complex as it went on, but I'm guessing we wont be seeing those in Conquest.

I'll do this in parts as I'm also working.

Ok, I have it in hand. First thing I noticed is you get a giant poster of a Primaris Intercessor Sergeant. I also has a bundle of paints on the back next to the models in the collection, which it looks like we'll be getting.

Apologies for picture quality, I still use a beat up old iPhone 5.

The magazine itself is not exactly full of content. It's around 30 pages long, the first half is a bit of lore around 40k, the second half is about how to assemble and paint you intercessors. The back cover shows the contents of the next two issues.

Reading the inserts it looks like the Premium sets are being described as "Game Mat Sets"

It's got a facebook page now, also some minor extra info on the premium sub

Warhammer 40,000: Conquest Hi guys,

With a premium subscription, you get four Premium Wargear sets to enhance your gameplay which includes exclusive fold-out gaming boards, dice, reference cards and more. This costs £1.50 extra per issue.

We are planning four exciting special issues which will be released throughout the collection. The first one will be announced soon, so keep your eyes on the page for that!

Thanks.

Yeah that’s just the premium info from before.
I’d need more info if I was investing that much more..

About 33 odd paints though, that’s good to know

I wonder if the image of all the models includes whatever is in the 4 special issues, might make it slightly less of a good deal. BGIME did a small number of more expensive special issues that included fully metal mounted characters, so maybe some of the more expensive Conquest stuff will also be in more expensive issues, rather than coming as part of the standard subscription.

There look like a few repeats in that paint set - Macrage Blue and the Death Guard Green in particular. Makes sense I suppose but for those not interested in these armies it is a shame.

But why would you collect this if you're not interested in these armies? This is basically a giant step by step painting manual for new hobbyists, so it makes sense to use a standard set of colours. Of course you could paint them differently, but if you follow the instructions because you're new and haven't painted an army before, it makes sense to use what's in the set.

Well, exactly. I said it made sense. Just a shame for anyone subscribing (like me, for example) who doesn’t paint ultramarines. I don’t need 3 pots of Macrage blue. Not sure 3 pots of each are even needed with those armies being displayed too. It would have been marginally better value to see a wider range of paints given away.

Even more so since I have some extra copies of issue 1 ordered for the cheap marines. What am I going to do with all that blue!?

The Death Guard is a more specific army. You can paint them in different schemes but I guess most would go for the standard green.

Not a big deal. My plan is to see how this goes with the next issues. I’ll keep the models and paints I want and sell the rest at cost. Might keep a few Nurgle ones to paint for fun.

If you’re not the target market (new new gamer), it’s fairly pointless to complain about the contents.

I like the idea of the magazine for newcomers a lot. The first four issues, with minimal investment a new player has a modelling kit, some paints, a brush and enough miniatures for two kill teams as well as some introductory articles and background into the universe.

If you have a friend or relative that has been on the fence about getting into the hobby this is the ideal way to start, which is obviously the point.

For me as a 25+ year veteran I will just enjoy the monthly deliveries and chance to add to my Death Guard and start a new Marine chapter. Win-win for me.

I think the problem is that it's on a massive piece of cardboard (A2 sort of size) and shipping something with those dimensions probably does rack up the costs (definitely not £28 within Europe though mind).

Indeed. At GW prices in the UK (assuming they are all £2.55 each, not including technical paints, shades, etc. Just base paints) you receive a minimum of £84.15 in paint alone!

That is assuming that what is advertised is their "standard" and paint pot sizes and not their cheap smaller "start collecting" paint pot sizes.

They haven’t mentioned four expensive special issues?

Or do you mean the premium version, as those are deliveries on top of the issues though, and none of the stuff from the first special delivery is shown in that picture.

If they are doing it though:
The subscription sign up says the issues are £7.99, no mention of some being more
Perhaps they would be more expensive if buying singularly, but for those subscribed you pay the normal price.

They have mentioned 4 special issues in the quote provided by Orlando -

They mention the premium subscription in the first line and then announce the specials in the second line. Specials are a frequent thing with the newer Hachette collections (the current 2000AD collection has 4 specials containing cover art). I am hoping that the specials are additional content on top of what is shown in the full collection photo.

They are the normal size ones in the first issues so far.

On the subject of paints, the picture shows two of each of the silvers in there, and many other repeats, but maybe it’s just a stock picture and actual colours may vary Kind of thing.
Though I won’t complain about any colour paints, as mentioned this isn’t for us veterans, but new people wh9 ideally are following the structure of the magazines and painting these schemes anyway.

I have my half built DG army as a project for 2019 so haven’t decided on a paint scheme yet, but didn’t want to do standard DG, having these paints may sway that way, or make it a base colour to be involved in there somewhere..

I take it all back! Well that’s good but still poses a question of what us in a subscription have to do. Unless they aren’t part of the numbered bit? More like an A-D you can choose to add.
Or as I say, maybe if you’ve been in from the start then you get them for normal price?

What do the other Hachette publications do regarding special issues?

They warn you in advance a special issue will be coming with your next delivery and you need to email them if you do not want to receive it.

The special issues usually cost most but have more content (so might be double sized in the events of books) so I could see them having a vehicle or whole squad with Conquest.

I see, and it counts as one of the issues?

I guess that month you’d just pay £24 then if you don’t want it?
