That is Areo Hotah, household guard to Doran Martell. There are only a couple commanders that play exclusively on the tactics board and Doran is one of them. Areo takes his place on the battlefield and when Doran takes a zone on the Tactics board he can replace the effect with having Areo's unit March or retreat. Cool stuff.

Doran has a really powerful tactics card where when a friendly NCU takes the crown every enemy unit gets a vulnerable token (allowing you to force them to reroll successful armor saves)

Thanks for the info! I'll look him up on the wiki.

edit: Looks like he's not from the north but rather a more temperate area of Essos. I was wondering why I didn't see him on the show but he was swapped into the big, bald black guy who punches Bronn.

Campaign now live and first addon already available.

The big pledge comes with the battle beneath the wall terrain pack, the terrain pack for the battle of the trident is available as an addon.

It’s also possible to buy the cards and tiles from the Drogan expansion separately for $25 which is a nice touch.

The giant looks pretty cool. Are there no funding stretch goals? Are there only the daily ones?

Only daily I believe. Looks like only goals will be to fill out the Battle beneath the wall box and terrain set. We have 13 or 14 daily unlocks and likely to have 12 models in the wall box (unless the Giant takes up 2 spots).

It's looking like the "daily unlocks" will in part be the contents of the second skirmish boxed set (the Battle Beneath the Wall box).

Wouldn't mind seeing CMON do a terrain-only KS. Still need to paint my Wrath of Kings mini's, too.

Interesting... I wasn't expecting them to add/preview a third Riverlands skirmish box as an add-on before the Wall one is fully revealed.

Riverlands set is $70... the terrain is $40... or you can buy them as a bundle for $100. A little more expensive than I was hoping...

The cross-over with ASoIaF: TMG is looking leaner than expected which is tempering my enthusiasm a bit, and I must say, the game is getting pricey quickly with expansions that expensive (and with kind of modest contents).

I'm still in, but will half fence-sit these next couple weeks.

The wall skirmish box won’t be fully revealed until the end of the campaign due to the daily unlocks.

I was hoping that we would get a Lannister box c which included Tyrion and some of his mountain tribe as always been disappointed they never appeared in the main game.

It’s funny as I want the river lands set. Kind of like it more than the base game… (though I do like Ned and all the Targaryens.

But strangely the pricey ones expansion that I want has kind of put me off the campaign. I am still in for the $80 but will see what becomes available and fur how much by the end. Right now I am waivering as to if I want any of it.

Are those ASOIAF Tactic miniatures the same scale as ASOIAF the Miniature Game?

I have to say the design of those new miniatures is way above those of ASOIAF:TMG. The old miniatures look very dated now after seeing those. The Characters and especially the armor look more grounded in historic designs and "realisitic". Just look at the Tully Sworn Shields, Stark Sworn Swords and bowen or Sandor Clegane or any model with plate armor. At the moment I paint two ASOIAF: TMG game armies and I have to say now that I have seen the new miniatures I find the old ones very ugly looking and I took a hit in motivation in painting those. It seems to me they took another design direction as in TMG. Even if they are the same scale, the difference in design und qualitity is very discernable.

Anyone else feeling the same way?

They are the same scale and the game
Has been designed with cross compatibility so you can expand the skirmish game with models from the miniature game and some of the new characters will have rules for the miniature game.

The minis are the same scale though the bases as textured instead of flat so that will add a couple of mm in total height. As for the sculpts, I think they're slightly more "heroic" looking and less realistically sculpted and proportioned personally (excluding obvious outliers like Tyrion, Mag, and Greg). For that reason, I actually prefer the originals warts and all. One of the things that draws me to ASOIAF is that the figs specifically were NOT proportioned like classic WHFB figs. Sometimes extra detail is warranted like with those peacock Targaryens but in others cases it just looks garish instead.

I can appreciate they wanted to have a game system where every box is basically a starter where you can play the game just owning it, but $70 a pop on the crowdfunding campaign for what looked like six boxes. Plus shipping (and possibly more depending on where you live). It's a bug chunk of change for a game that I want, but I'm just not that hot about. I'll see if the crowdfunding exclusive sets are too good to live without.

CMON did this with Zombicide: Invader as well. That is, they sold a standalone set for $99 MSRP. You could only get it if you pledged for the base. I waited for retail and found it on sale years later. So, yeah, wait for retail, since CMON is better than other KS companies in retail stock.

Too bad CMON isn't pulling a Mantic and having a terrain-only KS. I guess they learned from the base inserts years back that non-gamers are a smaller market than boardgamers.

Tormund looks interesting though initially I thought he might be a John Umber alt sculpt instead. Is the boy little bird under arrest or just stretching?

I like the Fleabottom sellswords... but I think I have probably talked myself out of backing this game. Unless something spectacular gets revealed before it ends of course.

I do kind of want to see some little birds get eaten by the dragon or by the Mountain...

I think I read the "10 cards" and messed it up.

A lot of the art seems to be inspired by the HBO show...

Personal wishlist...
* Lyanna Mormont closer to the HBO version. Leather armor... sword...
With a Mormont faction box.
* Rhaenyra Targaryen that looks like Milly Alcock.
With some more generic Targ troops
* Knights of the Vale
* Greyjoy Ship tile
