Hi All!

Just wanted to mention a Kickstarter I am currently running to produce the first line of miniatures for my new company. These are going to be for a developing near future scifi/horror war game called Slumbering Oblivion. The next step in the journey is to get the creatures funded which is what the KS is all about. The sculpting is by Roberto Chaudon and concept art by Danny Cruz. More details are on the KS and my website but think Cthulhu meets 40k (but not quite so far in the future) and you'll get a pretty good idea. Humans with hi-tech weapons and armor fighting hordes of nightmare creatures to decide the fate of Earth and the human race...that kind of thing. I'm merging my love of scifi war gaming with the stories of one of my favorite authors. I won't clog up the forum with too much more but if you're interested please check it out and back if you are so inclined!

Thanks for your time.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

Agreed, Orlando, the Deep Ones are awesome. And I actually like the concept a lot, Cthulu stuff does tend towards low-tech pulp noir even on the rare occasion it's not set in the early part of the 20th century, I like the idea of a version that plays as much on how advanced humanity's enemies are as how madness-inspiring they are.

With AT coming up funds are tight, but I'll probably go in for a Deep One unit, they're too cool not to.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"Your society's broken, so who should we blame? Should we blame the rich, powerful people who caused it? No, lets blame the people with no power and no money and those immigrants who don't even have the vote. Yea, it must be their fething fault." - Iain M Banks
-----
"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

Hey all! Quick update, I added a new pledge level to the KS to try an expand the appeal for those who don't want Deep Ones and maybe just some 'different' miniatures. In order to do this I opened up the next few miniatures on the list so there are some new ones to check out.

In the new pledge level you get the Warlock, small Shoggoth and a choice of either the Flenser or the Murguba. The Warlock and Flenser are shown above so I won't repost those images but the Shoggoth and Murguba are new so I'll add those below.

Small Shoggoth

Put them in a box in the closet, like all the rest miniatures? I know that is what I will be doing with mine.

James, good to see you man.

I have a sales email and customer update for my switch to resin I need to get out this weekend. Not sure how much it will help but the mailing list is pretty large and they are all gamers, I will be sure to give a shout out to the KS in that email.

Any resemblance of this post to written English is purely coincidental.

Hey Mark! Wow that would be awesome thanks! I really appreciate the support.

And that goes for everyone else as well who has posted on the thread. I appreciate the good words and glad you like what you see. I hope to have much more to unveil in the coming weeks!

And yes, these initial miniatures are on the large side but that is by design. Standard humans are still your 28-32mm height so the Elite Deep Ones and many other creatures will be larger. There will also be some human sized beasties but we haven't gotten to them yet. There are also a class of Deep Ones that are more akin to what you might imagine from the stories of HPL. In the end, with Cthulhu it is go big or go home. So we're starting off big. But for comparison sake, and as a nod to Mark, here are a couple comparison shots with a proper human sized soldier: (This is an Eisenkern model from the Dreamforge Games line found here: https://dreamforge-games.com/collections/all)

Finally, here is an image of the latest pledge level that shows all the miniatures currently unlocked.

Army of Cthulhu Hierarchy

We’ve seen a lot of different beasts on the Kickstarter, but how do they relate to one another on the battlefield? What are their capabilities? Which ones command?

----begin report---

According to documentation obtained from a joint study between The Order and the HADES Military Authority, there are currently ten major classifications for enemy forces:

1.Beasts

These are creatures akin to standard Earthly animals. Many appear to be genetic hybrids of fish, mammals or even fungus. These creatures are generally low on intelligence but are no less dangerous. Some are individually deadly and while others may not be dangerous by themselves, they travel in significant enough numbers to pose a threat.

Example: Ulkisuba

2.Cultists

Humans who have given up their natural heritage and become followers of Cthulhu are transformed into Cultists. While they often retain a semblance of their former human form they are more creature than human in both body and mind. These are the most loathed of all the Cthulhu host. Not due to their appearance or abilities but because they gave up their humanity freely. They often attack in groups and no quarter is given for Cultists.

Examples: Lilit and Bisagalu

3.Spawn

Spawn are similar to Cultists in that they are generally bipedal creatures however their genetic makeup is nowhere near human. They are genetic manipulations of existing or long extinct species. They range from simple minded beasts acting on little more than instinct up to highly intelligent creatures able to use advanced tactics and weaponry.

Examples: Atukusu, Murguba, Barhusum and Raqqunu

4.:[Classified]:

-:{HADES Level 9 Clearance Required}:-

5.Elites

Enemies in this classification fall into several sub categories but in general they are the leadership caste, highly intelligent group/pack fighters or singularly deadly creatures. The majority of those that fall into this category were not born or created on Earth, rather they arrived on Earth eons ago with Cthulhu. It is unknown if these are the original travelers or their offspring as their lifecycle and lifespan is unknown.

Examples: Elite Deep Ones, Ghouls, Star Spawn, Mother Hydra, Flenser, Shoggoth and Dagon.

6.Warlocks

The name Warlock is a misnomer as there is no ‘magic’ involved. However it is considered an apt description and categorization as much of what they can do is not natural. They are able to harness the psychic power of Cthulhu and perform all manner of defensive and offensive feats. Their power rivals that of The Order and a Warlock is always a target of opportunity if the situation presents itself.

Example: Cthulhian Warlock

7.Minions

Minions are monstrosities that possess enormous power on the battlefield. They are essentially mindless creatures which have been genetically engineered from some of the largest creatures from Earth’s distant past. Their physical power alone is significant but what makes them most deadly is the parasitic ‘driver’ embedded in their cranium. These are intelligent entities that direct the power of their host.

Example: Girtab Utukku

8.Children of R’lyeh

These are similar to minions but possess and intelligence of their own. Many have no analog to any known creature of Earth and are suspected of being genetic stock brought from elsewhere. They are each singularly destructive and attack with weapons ranging from brute strength, psychic attacks and even EMP bursts. They are truly some of the most destructive and hard to kill creatures humanity faces.

Examples: Pirig Utag and Haz Tillug

9.:[Classified]:

-:{HADES Level 9 Clearance Required}:-

10.Allegiance Unknown

Over the course of the war it has become apparent that not every alien creature encountered is allied with the forces of Cthulhu. There have been reports of several different entities that will attack the enemy on sight or join a battle in progress. However, the enemy of our enemy is not necessarily our friend. These same creatures have also attacked humans on occasion thought typically when they have been threatened or attacked first. Where their true allegiance ultimately resides is unknown but further study is required to determine how this might be used to human advantage.

Examples: MiGo, Night Gaunt, and Elder Things

---report end---

and a sneek peak at some concept art
Lilit is a cultist which means she was a human who voluntarily joined the forces of Cthulhu and as such was 'blessed' with a new form. Enjoy!

Shipping Update for UK/EU backers

Posted by Reclusive Phoenix (fka Warchild40k) (Creator)

I have updated information for UK/EU backers and have updated the FAQ.

I was able to work out a deal with Rob at Mierce to have them ship for the UK and EU backers. It was a tough and arduous discussion full of points and counter points which nearly came to blows but in the end we hammered something out.

I kid of course, I asked and Rob said yes. He's good people.

So for UK/EU backers you can expect shipping to be:

UK: £4

EU: £8-10

Since they ship from the UK it is cheaper than I can ship from the US so should be a break for the UK/EU backers. For everyone else the list in the Shipping FAQ is still the best estimates I've been able to get so far but I continue to into other options. If I manage to find something better another update will go out and the FAQ updated.

Cheers!

and it also means no potential VAT to pay, so come on UK and EU residents get backing

There are some amazing sculpts here. And with the improved shipping deal this project should be a no-brainer to support.

Those are exceptional, my only issue is with the blaster-type gun some of them appear to be armed with. I'd rather have revolvers or rifles, that way they'd fit into any setting, both pulp and sci-fi.

There are alternate weapons for those shown with blasters. For example all of the deep ones also have a blade option, the star spawn has an alternate empty hand, etc. So it is up to you how to equip them. To your point though, there are no revolvers or present day type rifles but it wouldn't be that hard to modify them with other weapons if you don't care for the energy or other options.
