This an important distinction. Even with the shipping cost, right now a pre-order is like $46. So if anyone really wants to secure a copy. It's still slightly cheaper than retail.
Will the retail version still have all the supplement stretch goals from the Kickstarter?

We didn't want to switch to softcover for durability, we wanted to switch so that it would be lighter and cheaper to ship. Vast majority of the backers voted for hardcover though.
The book is going to contain full fantasy, sci fi and modern settings, since they contain the majority of the rules that you will find in other settings. Like for example, if you wanted a historical dark ages setting you would just use the fantasy rules without the magic or races, and just use humans. There's also going to be a setting/campaign builder that will explain how you can create your own settings. Other settings we wanted to add with stretch goals just won't fit in the book, so we are saving them for free (for backers) PDF releases.
We're also looking into an online living rulebook and gangbuilder app that would have a small monthly fee for access (like $1), but all backers get it free. Or maybe we could use something like Patreon? The core rules aren't going to be changing, but this would be more like for new content like settings, sample characters and gangs, scenarios, etc.

That's not the story Taylor was trying to push. He stated in the infamous update that hardcover books weren't that durable and multiple times that he was pushing to get us a "better product". I get that in his own mind he was trying to 'soften the blow' but it just came off as deceptive.
To be honest I took more umbrage with his declarations and dummy spitting in the comments than I did over the switch from hardcover to soft cover. Even in the update where you stated the book wouldn't be changing format he couldn't help but pop in to make comments on behalf of the company while simultaneously swearing to not be associated. I've backed projects before that turned out to be complete trash-fires because of the ego of the rules designer and his inability to take criticism. His behavior made me concerned about the quality of the rules we were going to receive moreso than I was worried about the quality of the printing.
Maybe you don't care that he was speaking for you, I don't know, but if it was my product on the line I'd consider putting a muzzle on him.

I've always found this to be a peculiar complaint. The cost of shipping is tied to the size and weight of the item, not what it cost. So yes, it's perfectly possible, and not really that uncommon, for shipping to cost more than the actual item, and that's not unreasonable.
Shipping to Oz for this book was a little over half what I generally see quoted through webstores these days for books around this size, so no complaints here.

Are the books not shipping from the US? That might explain the US price surprising people, but the Aus price being better than expected?

As said elsewhere, This is Not a Test shipped a beautiful hardcover with even higher page-count for $6.00 while this manager is asking me for $18. I'm sorry if those involved didn't do their logistics homework or find a better deal, but there's a price that is simply untenable.

The book is shipping from the US. We're using the same warehouse we've always used. Some companies can use media mail for a really cheap shipment, but that's not an option for us. All we can do is pass on the shipping costs we are quoted. This is just one of our heaviest products to date and the price is much higher than expected. I wish it wasn't that way but there isn't much I can do at this point :( We have no other option than to use our warehouse, I cannot receive the books myself where I live, and store them, and pack and ship them myself. I don't have the facilities, storage space or manpower, so I have to pay someone to handle that part of the business for me and these are the rates they charge. I'm always glad to offer full refunds to anyone that's unhappy.

Which one? The TinaT rulebook is only 172 pages, and the Kickstarter says $15 for US shipping. It also appears to have been shipped through someone's garage, rather than a warehouse. If they only charged $6 for shipping, I rather suspect that they lost money the shipping.
