Sure hope they will make that one a little less... irrelevant, because it does look good.

Rebuilding trust? WTF? For what? 'Cause their online team made some jokes as Sister's player's expense that they (predictably) took personally?
Can't wait for your reaction to the online team making a joke at NZ players' expense and how you'll take it as a boss .

mm what about orks can we have ork jokes?
I don't collect them so they aren't one of my armies and they are certainly not space nuns with a military ideology.
Unless - wait - orks are always getting into fights right and their gods are Gork and Mork who are basically patrons of battle and brawling!! And hold on Orks aren't even exactly male as they are sort of spawned by spores
OMG - Orks are indeed SPACE ALIEN ARMY NUNS!

Yeah, the old Games Days were about gaming. They were a very different beasty. Kirby 'improved' the format by stripping out all of the extra guff so that the day could be focused on the part that we all enjoy the most - buying Citadel Miniatures!

Exactly. The biggest area have been average tournament tables and the sales area. I'm not again travelling 250 km and spending 75 euros on tickets for the family for this travesty.
The white knights can defend this all they want, it sucked. And tell me, what was better on Sunday apart from more GD entries?

Latter day games days were rubbish. Nice day out I guess, but no previews, little studio interaction.
But Warhammerfest is an improvement. Live painting demos, previews, good chances to speak with the designers, multiple seminars, tournaments, licensed partner demos. All sorts.

It did all take a bit of a nosedive when GW implemented their 'don't tell anyone about new releases more than a week in advance' policy. So yes, against that metric the Warhammer Fest is probably an improvement. It still seems somewhat light-on compared to the older Games Days, though.

I’ve enjoyed the ones I’ve been to (think I missed this years).
Not something I’d attend both days for, outside of Loot Sharing purchases (do that on the Saturday, nice and early. Whizz the gubbins back to hotel room).
But they’re not as rammed as Games Day Of Old. That allows me to get round to see what I want, more or less when I want. You don’t feel guilty having a ten minute chat with the designers. You don’t feel rushed or crowded (and that’s me with mild social anxiety that doesn’t like being even slightly jostled).
There is room for improvement of course. There always is. Couple of unique participation games would be welcome. Add extra tables for pick games (advertise as 1,500 or whatever, so peeps know what to bring). There’s hall at the U.K. venue (provided they stay there, natch) that weren’t part of the ones I’ve been to, so logistics aside, there is room for expansion.
But as others have said on the previous page - each store contributing isn’t practical anymore, not on the previous scale.
Still an enjoyable enough event as it is though. At the risk of sounding snobby, pretentious and a Richard, it feels a bit more ‘grown up’ than Games Days used to. Mind you, I’m a lot more grown up than I was, so that’ll have played a part. Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, working Games Day sucks a lot of the fun out of it.
Still got my Cadia staff t-short though. 15 years old that tee.

Thing is back in the old days we'd wait months for a release; now we really only have a week for any kind of release from GW. So I can well understand their marketing shift toward generally focusing on the next month or two only. Plus it means that when they do leak or give us info its almost 100% confirmed. A lot of companies make the mistake (Looking at you former Spartan Games) of releasing info too early and then either never delivering on the date or having so many set backs that it gets pushed into a year or more away. That in itself only annoys customers . Whilst we might not get all the info we want, we at least get solid info from gW.

I think it was a great event, the seminars were good, Adam Troke gave away a lot of new Lotr rules and was generally a cool guy.
That being said next time I wouldn't take the weekend ticket again, there wasn't that much going on on sunday.
I think they missed the opportunity to do an exclusive preview/Onboxing of the Space Wolves Codex. In fact the rules guy didn't tell you more about it than WarCom said, while at the same time you could watch Youtubers reading the whole thing.
Golden Daemon and Tournament moderation was a little weak. Basically they simply read the names and that was it. Would've been interesting to at least hear why they chose that model, what made it stand out or what list did the tournament winner bring.

I think the nadir of the old Games Days was where the biggest display was the new Skaven that had come out like 2 weeks prior. That was it.
The best, at least back in the day, might've been the GD where they revealed not only the first Power Armour Grey Knights (and the Grey Knight range for Codex: Daemon Hunters) but the Enforcers for Necromunda!

Well Talons has been bumped in favour of the next HH book, so at this point I think Fires is just dead and buried since they apparently wanted to throw out all the fluff as well as all the rules, in other words start from scratch. Far more likely after Talons they move on to replacing all the stuff they've culled recently with eleventy-bajillion Primaris bits & bobs.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.
"Your society's broken, so who should we blame? Should we blame the rich, powerful people who caused it? No, lets blame the people with no power and no money and those immigrants who don't even have the vote. Yea, it must be their fething fault." - Iain M Banks
-----
"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal |
