Like seriously! Who else has this problem?

Is it just me?

Why, for the ever loving brass horn diddley-idelly KHORNE! am I unable to spend a CP on a reroll and have it not be a total waste?!

Why?

Why!

There needs to be a strategem just for guys like me.

Unlucky Luck, 2cp
When you spend a CP to reroll a dice and you fail (you moron) you may use this strategem to reroll that dice one more time (don't mess it up this time, General).

Whaddaya think? Too OP?

Of Khorne stamping course, I would fail that roll too...

Well...it's Khorne, so...sacrifice a model to get the extra reroll?

I would say yes but I fear I would lose as many models to Command Reroll rerolls as I did to bullets!

It's not even like I'm blowing them on risky odds! I wait for the 3+, the 2+. Nope. Denied. Every time. I'm sure of it.

Funny enough, that extra reroll strat has ruined me for normal dice games. It's made me way too comfortable, so now I practically have a heart attack whenever I have to roll an unassisted d6 during a game like Catan or Heroclix

This means one of 2 things:
1. The dice hate you: Really. Dice do hate some people and refuse to perform. You can try timeouts, new dice, and making examples of wayward dice... but the dice will still hate you and return to form after a bit of time.

2. You are using Command Reroll for rolls you are unlikely to make. Don't reroll a 5+ roll. Don't reroll to hit when you don't have a really good chance to Wound.

You should've brought an Aquila commander that way you can attempt to reroll as many times as you want!

Defs #1.

I simply stare in awe of failed 4-ups. They have gone beyond my ability to question, I accept their totality with equanimity.

Maybe it's because they're all mixed together, different sizes and colours? Or maybe it's because I'm using a loyalist dice bag?

I have new ones on the way. Red with gold pips. Should be decent.

I think I'm just going to swear off Command Rerolls. Imma only spend my CP on making my duders fight twice.

You remember the ones that fail and forget the ones that succeed. Go start taking notes when you play and I bet you'll find you end up pretty close to statistically average a few months in.

I actually did this across 10 games in 7e to demonstrate that I was hilariously unlucky and not falling for cognitive bias. I also changed dice game to game, using some chessex, some from assorted dice bags, and some from random other games like space hulk and catan. For the few times where low numbers were good (ie leadership,) I treated the dice as the inverse to keep the record having consistent logic that the low numbers were always bad. I stopped at 10 games because recording every roll was super annoying. And yes I’m aware 7k+ rolls is still not THAT large of a sample size.

I rolled 7531 dice over the course of all ten games.
1549 1’s
1587 2’s
1397 3’s
1243 4’s
1050 5’s
705 6’s

People that don’t know me personally don’t believe me when I say I really do have awful luck.
(Should be noted back when I played magic, I once had a top 8 pro tour qualifier game where I started with 3 lands/4 spells, and managed to put up a long losing fight with just that, because the next 17 draws were all land, at which point I lost. This was out of a goblin theme deck from onslaught that ran a mere 22 land out of 60 cards.)

If that were more brevitous I'd get it tattooed.

I know the old mind game that dice play with you. They make you think they suck so you'll go buy more dice. The dice don't have anything to do with it, meanwhile there they are in a bag on the shelf drinking margaritas and living it up going 'what colour is he going to try next?'....

But this isn't mind games! Every single time (totally anecdotal) I go for that Command Reroll I forget 'oh DC, you never make these' and I pick up the dice, spend my CP and then I throw the damned thing and the Warp coalesces around it, midflight, and sets it down a 1. Then the Warp smoke makes a middle finger in midair at me and promptly vanishes before I can get my chainaxe.

I have incontrovertible eye witness proof. Would I lie to you? About a game? Online?!

On a neeeeeerd forum?!?!?one!?

No, I wouldn't. And since I'm the only witness because all I play is 1 player missions (read:no friends) there is no extraneous accounts of what really happened to cloud the issue. I always fail Command Rerolls. In Warhammer 40000 I, Darkcloak, have never made a Command Reroll. It is a 1cp tax for me being a dummy and hoping I could assuage the Dice Gods with mere command point frippery.

But you know what? Next time I fail a Command Reroll, I'm going to cheat. I'm going to reroll a reroll.

Just change the CP from a reroll to making it an automatic success. I'm sure your opponent won't mind if they get the same thing.

I hate the command point reroll, I think it takes away so much from the game. Like when people reroll explode rolls to avoid them blowing up. Make it like AOS - reroll charges is one strategem.

That's crazy strong for difficult rolls! What if it was:

1CP if it's 4+ or better, 2CP for 5+, 3CP for 6+

I would certainly mind. A "reroll any dice" stratagem is nice because it allows you to correct for those unlucky 2+ or 3+ rolls that you fail at the worst time (as long as you dont roll another 1). Things like important saves, Random shots, exploding vehicles etc. Helps to balance the events early on and prolong an interesting game.

It shouldnt be a "lol I pay 1 CP to autopass this 6+ save and deflect your lascannon" button. That would really be detrimental to most games and highly abuse-able.

Well if this has taught me anything it's that...

Command rerolls suck and I hate them. I for one won't be using them any longer.

For me the stratagem text might as well read:

Spend 1 Command Point to feel bad. Cry.

Rant mode on standby...

I miss the 'sometimes, you roll a 1' theme the game had. The dice were the arbiters. What you got was final.

Now we get "But let me retry that one roll this phase!" instead. Dice are no longer final. Because if the universe disagrees with what we think should happen, screw the universe.

It also doesn't help when you use the reroll exclusively for rolls that are either critical, or have a very high chance of success.

Personally. I never use the reroll on any roll that needs 5+ or a 6 unless absolutely game breaking.
I'll often use it early in the game to make sure rolls that need 2+ or 3+ go off.

1's always reroll to 1's.

Other than that, its the single best thing about 8th edition, IMO. It's pretty well ruined me on AoS 2nd edition if nothing else.

Not if it's a joke... Loolllll

On the other hand.

What do you have to do to get 6 extra CP? Take a bunch of troops, troops you probably didn't give jack gak to so to keep them cheap. So now what? You've got 6 extra CP and a ton of cannon fodder. Plus whatever crap you're bringing. I don't care what anyone says a CP Battery is a crap tactic. You're bringing chaff to make a few other units much better by giving them situational special rules. A large part of your army does nothing for you except camp objectives and give you rerolls.

You wanna talk about boring? Try playing a list where a chunk of it does literally nothing but sit there and say 'rerolls'.

That just sounds like playing against Catachan or Cadian Guard. So fun no movement and all the Re-rolls.

Remember the dice gods have a well known dislike to unpainted models. That could be the issue.

Jokes aside, there was an article doing the rounds a decade or more ago about how a mathematician got his students to roll dice and record their findings. It turns out that dice with pips that aren't filled in and have smooth corners roll more 1's than what the statistics allow for.

Also, there is a reason why casino dice are heavily monitored for their performance, after a while the casino will throw dice out to ensure that the dice don't have any corners smoothed due to natural wear and tear.

If you want good dice, buy dice with sharp corners, and no hollow pips.

The objective of the game is to win. The point of the game is to have fun. The two should never be confused.

100% agree.

AOS did it right, allowing you to reroll charges, run 6" or reroll morale.

At first it was cool, but now it is just tedious and anti-climactic.
