Really great work, superb start into 2020! I love those new centerpiece models, the sisters one is also veering in that direction.

Much appreciated gents, I think it is *probably* my best ever painted miniature. Doing the shield was my favourite part. The worry there is that I may never better it. Not a bad problem to have really.

So, 2020 hobby resolutions? Nothing too concrete except for:

1: Beat last year's total of 208 miniatures painted. Over 12 months that works out at 17.33 miniatures a month so it is readily doable. The obvious pitfall is trying not to diminish quality in an attempt to get things done.

2.: To help meet 1: an update post at the end of each month as encouragement.

3: To buy less new stuff before painting the old. Two caveats in this. Firstly it is my birthday soon so a few minis will probably come my way, secondly those new Warcry big beasties will be mine.

4: To continue work on my current armies and to maybe "finish (is that possible?)" a couple.

So my to do list:

Imperial Knights: 1
Chaos Knights: 4.
Genestealer Cult: 33
Death guard: 24
Celestial Lions: 61
Ossiarch Bone Reapers: 39
Warcry Starter: 15 + terrain.

I have a few other bits and bobs around but these factions are my main focus. It works out at 177 miniatures so could conceivably be done this calendar year...we shall see.

Thanks for looking. And just for some visual interest to the post here he is again.

That really is a great centerpiece . I wasn’t to inspired by the studio paint scheme, but you are knocking these models out of the park.

Big bone guy really is a diorama as much as a model! You had a great 2019 haul and managed some impressive models too. I’m personally looking forward to more of your Celestial Lions in 2020!

Hello again, the fight against the pile continues. This time with more GSC.

First up is my Jackal Alphus:

I love this mini, really great sculpt and really evocative of a hunter stalking their prey. But what is an Alphus without some Jackals to lead?

So that is a unit of Atalan Jackals with shotguns and demo charges. One of the members has a grenade launcher and the buggy has a Heavy Mining Laser.

I also got 2 Familiars done, a nice and easy mediumed contrast job on these:

A week last friday was my birthday, luckily I got a nice haul without really adding much to the pile. I got the following goodies:

But the missus also got me a copy of the debut issue new partworks AOS Mortal Realms. All told this is £2.99 (or $3.89 at current exchange rate to our American friends) for 10 Chainrasps and 3 ETB Stormcast Sequitors.

I aim to get these painted asap, to wit here are the first 5 Chainrasps done:

A really easy scheme to do these. First up is a Wraithbone spray basecoat. Then a Nikilakkkkkkk Oxide/Contrast medium mix wash. A few wraithbone highlights to tidy up and rubbish looking areas. Follow that with the metallics and wood washed with aggrax and we are done.

All told thus far I have done 14 miniatures this year so am happy with my progress. Thanks for looking.

That's a lot of work done already! Looking good, too. Happy belated birthday! The Alphus is a really good piece, and it is impossible to not like the bubble helmet on the cart driver.

Happy birthday LTMW! Looks like you’ve made a good start on the year and your present haul! Will you be subscribing like you did with Conquest?

@YWS: It had to be the space helmet, truth be told I am not that happy with how I painted it but I can always redo it.

@Theophony: Did you ever find your trousers?

@Gobert: I think I will subscribe early and then stop it once the free gifts end and the buyers remorse kick in.

Love those Jackals, GSC have some of the best models in the 40k lineup. I have some infantry models and characters, but after seeing how much are needed for a full army and not being able to ally them in like with my imperial forces, I will only paint some up for kill team.
Like the look of the bike's bodies, is it aethermatic blue over leadbelcher? Works really nice.
And the space helmet on the quad looks good in my eyes, the white accents to show the reflections work out well.

Great start to the year, especially that big bone fellow and friends. Not sure how I feel about has new direction with these diorama minis - they look great as display pieces but a bit odd on the gaming table

@ Viterbi: On the nose with the aethermatic blue over leadbelcher call.

@Maharg: The diorama minis are certainly divisive, and they seem to be the go to thing with Katakros, Saint Catherine and the upcoming Teclis and mad beast thing. But for me Katakros is a grade A example of the miniature sculpting art.

So the painting bandwagon rolls on.

First up is my GSC Sanctus, another one of the great character sculpts from the range. I went with the Sniper rifle on him. The face is a bit off, in spite of a number of washes and glazes I just cant seem to get any definition into it. Thankfully it is mostly covered by his goggles. I am a lot happier with the cloak and his little critter friend though.

I am not sure I am going to start with a Stormcast army but I wanted to paint the Sequitors from issue 1 of Mortal Realms. I was really unsure on a scheme for these, but am pretty happy with what I blundered into. The armour is Contrast Black Templar, 50/50 mix with Contrast Medium then highlighted up in areas with administratum grey and white at the highest points.

What do you guys think about the scheme?

Less interesting are the other 5 Chainrasps:

And here is issue 1 done, in glorious Blur-O-Vision:

That takes me to 23 miniatures done so far this month. I have bought a couple of copies of Mortal Realms 2 with the Banshees in, and let's not mention the other 7 issues of issue 1 I have (80 Chainrasps total!!). So the painting is going well, the not buying new miniatures less so.

Thank you for looking.

Wow! 80 chainrasps, you’re gonna need a new shelf just for them! The Stormcasts look good too, their cloaks have a real nice warm glow to their highlights

SCE looking great, I was doing a silver/red/ white look too, but now I’m thinking of chaosifying them and changing their colors. I like yours way better than mine.

I like the GSC too. Especially the little genestealer on the pipe.

January Month In Review:

Had a nice little push towards the end of January to take me to 40 miniatures painted for the month, way better than the 18 needed a month to beat last years total. Those covered:

3 Game Systems: 40K, AOS and ASOIAF
5 Factions: Ossiarch Bonereapers, Nighthaunt, Stormcast Eternals, Genestealer Cult and Targaryen's...

Targaryen you say?

Yes painted my first 3 ASOIAF miniatures of the year in the form of three characters from the recently released (I had it on preorder for aeons) Targaryen Starter Set. Luckily as that set is primarily mounted it is only 20 miniatures total.

So here are Daenarys Targaryen, Jorah Mormont and Illyrio Mopatis. More of these these on my ASOIAF blog:

I also went Nighthaunt mad and got another 10 Chainrasps done as well as Mortal Realms issue 2's Banshees painted, and boy are these a pain to photograph!

All told that leads to January's total shot:

I have no idea what to paint up next, maybe a Knight? I definitely want to paint up my OBR Deathriders up. Anyway, thanks for looking.

Great haul to start the year and get you well on the way to beating last years count! Your banshees look really cool, even if they’re impossible to photograph on a white background! I’ll have to remember your recipe for when I eventually get around to some undead types

Cheers everybody,

@Viterbi: Rules is rules. 1 base = 1 model.
@Theo: I think they are useful just for your own benefit, never mind anyone else.

The paint train continues. Just the 2 minis for February thus far, but nicely different.

First up is my Genestealer Patriarch. Glad to finally have him done for my GSC. I went for a very classic, no frills scheme for him.

I really need to get more basic troops for the army done though, so hopefully can get started on some Neophytes/Acolyte Hybrids done soon.

Next up is a completely different tack, Gotrek who was a nice surprise birthday gift from the Missus. I have no real place in any army for him but am glad to have the miniature. It is just weird having him with no Felix by his side:

That leads to a few things that I aim to do next. As ever these are very much subject to change.

ASOIAF Dothraki and a GSC Ridgerunner:

Warcry Ogoroid My....cannot remember how to spell it:

Thanks for looking.

Great job on Gotrek and the Patriarch, though I guess you’ll have to be getting Felix now?

I love the bases on the ASOIAF minis, the line of sight markers just look cool to me for some reason!

Really like your Gotrek, especially the work you put in on the base, with slightly different woods. What colors did you use? I "started" on the base a few weeks and just put Wyldwood contrast over every wodden surface and was planning to drybrush with Dryad Bark and/or XV-88.

And nice to see another Ridgerunner, I love that model and may get one and play it as a Taurox Prime.

Great start to the year!

The grind continues.

First up is the Warcry/Chaos beastie, The Ogroid Myrmidon. I had a lot of fun painting him, which is what it is all about ultimately. Far from my best work, I am not too keen on the skin but he will do:

Continuing my Mortal Realms kick I got a 2nd lot of Banshees painted up, these are simple and a lot of fun:

I also got a further ASOIAF Targaryen miniature or two painted up, first up is "The Great Khal", Chieftain of the Dothraki khalasar Khal Drogo. I am really happy with him. Great pose, great miniature and a fitting commander to the Targaryen forces:

Throw in a nice and simple NCU in the form of the Free Folk's Craster. A very unsavoury character with a penchant for marrying his daughters and then fathering children with him. Sounds like a lovely bloke.
Nice and simple neutral colours here as befit the free folk:

Finally is a nice and simple, and terribly photographed, Chimera for my GSC Brood Brothers:

Currently WIP are some Dothraki Screamers:

I have also done a fair bit of construction over the past few days:

Thanks for looking at my unfocused, scattergun painting!
